i hate people who are racist against people who use drugs.-lilipad84

i actually endorse drug use. i dont do them myself, but i think it acts as a form of natural selection.

a safety conscious drug user...isnt that an oxy-moron?

yea, where did you hear this? and if you are at all downplaying their musical ability you are a moron.

Half of the lyrics are about Treys' thesis paper/story. So someone else wrote the lyrics about Treys' paper or do I smell a little bs?

.

fuck you, my roomate is a phish guru, and he admits it. He says they even talk about it in bittersweet motel. It some other guy that like tours with them and shit. And im not downplaying their music playing skills, thats about all i give them props for

His name is Tom Marshall. He wrote SOME of their stuff. Mostly it was their early (and better) albums. I wouldn't really call it lyrics. More like really high ramblings.

I don't know karate, but I know Ka-razy

Yeah, and Marshall is pretty much a member of the band. Tom and Chris (the guy who does the lights) were a big part of the Phish Circus...it's not like they have some record exec writing shit for them like Britney Spears does...

i like phish

Most people have known this for a long time. Tom Marshall as already stated in this thread writes a lot of there lyrics as well as different members of the band.

next thing your going to tell me that all of the popular rap and pop 'artists' on mtv don't write their own lyrics ... or even music ... or even have basic knowledge of a musical instrument!!! blasphemy!!

Yes, Tom Marshall, 'writes' alot of the lyrics. Few misconceptions though... Marshall doesn't write a song and then just send it to Phish where they make a song out of it. Marshall and Trey are good friends and just about every song is written cooperatively between the two, from brainstorming, to drafting, to final edition. Some are written entirely by Marshall though, and other's are written entirely by Trey.

Additionally... Gamehenge and all its derivatives are solely Trey's work. The idea came to him while he was living alone and renting out a cabin up in Vermont for about year. He wrote the story and songs like Colonel Forbin's Ascent and Fly Famous Mockingbird came from that. There is a very open line of communication between Marshal and Trey, it's really unfair to just say 'Phish doesn't write any of their lyrics.'

well, Grateful Dead didnt write the lyrics, usually Garcia/Hunter or Weir/Barlow

yeah phish isnt really recognized because of their lyrics anyways. they were good live though.

well at least I know they wrote fluff's travels and kung, you just can't makeup that shit.

Regardless, phish isn't centered around lyrics, look at David Bowie, I mean they say David Bowie and UB40, and its a great song. The only songs that really require Lyrics are from the thesis, Gamehenge, and some others.

yeah, I am not saying that they don't write their own lyrics, for the most part i think they do. And if you have ever seen them live you wouldn't even give a fuck, the music speaks for itself.

Yeah for they guy that said that phish doesnt write their own lyrics, thats totally bogus. Tom Marshall, like stated before, along with trey writes did write a majority of the lyrics. And also stated tom and chris are just as much of phish as trey, mike, page, and john were too. They just werent they ones infront of all you to see. But its over, so lets just leave it be

^Good to see another true phish fan on this site. Tom marshall is an influential was and still is a crutial and influential part of Phish, and whoever started this didn't understand that i geuss. Lyrics deffinately aren't phish's strongest quality....that's true, but thats not all that makes a good band, jamband or not.
