PG>13 Still waiting

This site is full of park, rails, whatever jibs and steeze. (not to mention people who might flame for another pg 13 thread). But I have yet to see any skier that has caught my eye and make me go "Oh wow, this guy is definitely good." Don't get me wrong now. A lot of these video's are wicked but they all share one thing in common, they are ONLY PARK. Not even a short clip to show that you can carve, nothing to show you can do any type of good skiing besides taking air and doing a bunch of acrobatics before you land.
I know one kid was a freestyle skier and he only put up the clips of him doing the jumps but none of the moguls in his line. Kids, skiing is more than pipe, rails, boxes and jumps. Any big mountain, any tree skiing, any groomers or moguls where you carve it up. Keep the jumps in there, but add drops and all that other stuff. Otherwise I'm going to have to assume park is the ONLY thing you can do and that your too embarrassed to show us anything other than what your good at. If thats the case, then i don't think you deserve the skis and sponsorship.
So, I'm still waiting and a little disappointed by the entries (not to mention the snowboarder one).

well it is a Freeskiing contest, and anyone can carve groomers, i can see where your coming from on the Drops though, if theres some good lines that would be nice, but other than that it would probably take away from the video

that was kind of harsh...

the makes a pretty legit argument... it'd be cool to see a contest that promoted an all around skier. I personally know a couple of those kids and i know they can ski the mountain really well, but you'd just think they were park rats from the vids. either way, cool contest and all the riders slayed it!

i cant stand the number of kids that cant carve these days

watching kids bomb groomers like gapers straight to the park and then to the lift in their 5x tees and hoodies looks ridiculous, im all for tall hoodies and such, but its just too funny

I agree. So many kids forget that skiing is not just about park. I hate seeing gapers on pow days lapping the park. If you do this you are an idiot. No matter what anyone says, skiing is about pow and back country, not 1620's or double misty 1440's. Although it is awesome and really hard to do and I love skiing park. I can not stand people saying "i wish it would stop snowing so that I can ride the park" I literally was talking to a kid on a lift and he was telling me about his switch 900 mute grab and I was like wow you are a gaper.

The Term gaper seems to have changed a little bit, now i here some of my friends calling gapers anybody that doesn't hit the park, and now a gaper is someone that is good at park?

i really don't understand why so many people have a problem with "park rats" Maybe some people enjoy skiing the park enough that they choose not to ski anywhere else? Its really not your business how others want to enjoy the sport of skiing. I don't care if you ski the park, race, ski moguls, trees, cliffs, pow, as long as your on the snow your my fellow skier and as long as your not out of control endangering other people you should be able to do whatever you want.
But is it better to be a well rounded skier? of corse it is, but if some people would rather just ski the park then let em.
and why do you care how big their shirt is?
there is no need to hate on other skiers dude.

I don't care about the 4 foot long shits on 5 foot tall kids. All I'm saying is that I want to know the kid can do more than gymnastics with sticks on their feet. I know a few kids who cant carve, just slide their way to the park, throw down a cork 7 and 720 and then slide to the lift, this kid could easily post a vid on this contest, but is he worth sponsoring? NO! Why? BECAUSE HE CANT SKI. Park is only a small part of skiing. I would just like to see more than clip after clip of rail or jump.
They only need 4 seconds to show us they can carve, 180 on a roll and make it to the lift decently. No one has shown that, we have to assume it. And that assumption is not altogether accurate. If your good at park, why can't they show that same skill on some natural features? A snow covered rock, a wind lip. Anything.

u obviously didnt watch all the vids, or failed to watch them closely enough. prob 3+ kids had BC drops, woods skiing, BC kickers; at least one kid had mogul comp footage... one kid even had switch skiing thru pow. pay attention b4 you start flaming on 13 and under kids, fool.

no guys you are missing the point - we should encourage kids to stay in the park on pow days - less tracked out lines for us!

gapers to me are defined as people with large gaps between their goggles and helmet and they always cut you off and go off the side of a jump..gapers don't have to suck at skiing though.

First, I'm not flaming, the thread title says I'm waiting on some better footage that's more all around.Second, I've kept track of the contest, for the longest time there were only about 2 uploads and when a bunch showed up at once, i watched all of them, obviously more came up that I missed before the contest ended.Third and final, look at the winner of the contest for january, this kid is from whistler and all he showed us was his park skills, it was impressive park skill but he isn't from a mountain where thats all you can do, he could have showed us so much more of his other skiing abilities in other parts of the mountains.

fair enough, agreed on the winner's entry... just be careful about blanket statements that the entire field of entrants don't display, or don't possess, actual skiing ability.

the fact of the matter is, 99% of people do not find "tree skiing" and "mogul footy" nearly as entertaining as park skiing, it would be sick to see some BC booters but if there isn't who cares?
There was no need for you to make a thread hating on 13 year old kids for not being "well rounded skiers"
And if your waiting for better footage, then wait for it, there is no need to let everyone else know.
If you really have a problem with the winner of the comp not showing enough of his all mountain skills, then you are just to picky, im sure that kid doesn't give two shits wether you voted for him or not.

your so one of those guys arent you? your one vote isnt going to hurt their wins that badly seeing as your the .1% that cares. cool dude

T Hall's other account?

Maybe they're east coast and have no lines to ski. What are we supposed to ski in NJ besides park and groomers? And don't you think you would get really bored really quick watching someone hit groomers in an edit?

im not hating on park rats or park skiing. i just moved back form CO and i lap an almost 200ft vertical park for 1-2hrs and have a blast.

its the kids from CO or western canada w/o any sort of pow shots and lack of ability to ski anything other than the park that bugs me. kids have backcountry, big ass groomers and pow at their disposal and they dont take advantage of it. i guess its their decision and im not going to tell them how or where to ski as long as theyre having fun, but i feel like they dont realize how lucky they are to be in the mountains and be able to ski pow. Thousands of kids from the MW and east (No not you vermont, you have pow you whiners) would love to ski just a little longer run w/ pow and such, but they cant. meanwhile there's kids that grow up w/ pow out their backdoors and decide to hike the 15ft flat box all day. again, if thats what lets them fun than whatever.

Fuck, I'm not hating. But seriously, park skiing isnt the only skiing, and to do long shots of carving or tree skiing IS boring. But here is what i think, 1 min max of park skiing, 20 seconds of a shot you did skiing a slope well enough, while being playful kind of thing, doing 180's or 360's off rollers, or doing lips off the side of the run. Maybe 20 seconds of a nice tree line where you take some air of a mogul or little feature. And if you have drops, powder, then include it, 40 seconds of that and you have 2:20 vid that is plenty.
For those who say "well, your vote doesn't matter so much" well yeah, most of the people on this site are park fiends.
The fact of the matter is, I would have like to have had this sponsership oppertunity when i was 13 but i wasn't lucky enough. These kids have struck gold and I feel like they aren't worthy because they haven't shown me they aren't better than I was when I was 13 anywhere other than park.
If you live in a place that doesn't have the best terrain, well, thats alright, but still, on basic runs, there must be a bunch of stuff thats fun to jump of and play around on, not just the man made features in a perfectly designed park.

Buddy, these kids are 13 or under. give em a break if theyre not doing every aspect of skiing exeptionally yet. Theyre job right now is to make themselves look good, if theyre good at park, they'll shoot park.

PS. The video of the kid Brogan posted, kid was shreded mini pow lines in a tall t. just putting that out there

you inspired me man my next edit with out a doubt is going to be me carving it up some nice corduroy on a mellow novice trail and hopefully ill kill my self before i ever do anything that stupid

fuck off, anyone with any decent skill can make skiing groomer look good with 20 seconds of footage. if you do it like a racer its just boring, you make three turns at good speed, see a cat track cross the road and just do a simple 360 off of it as go on your way skiing.
For the one who says I'm expecting too much, I don't think so, not the way skiing has progressed, if they are good enough to deserve sponsorship then they should be able to show us more than their park skill. If all you have is park skill, then I personally wouldnt sponsor you, if you could show me you could ski around playfully on the slopes including groomers, steeps, trees pow, whatever and do some awesome park, i wouldnt hesitate to sponsor you.

What more do you want these kids to be doing man? Think about how many pros are sponsored now that got sponsored by skiing strictly park. its not a big deal if a 13 year old cant ski pow. im sure sean petitie would be stoked on teaching them how to

More and more park skier are taking their skill to the backcountry (jossi wells, sammy carlson, simon dumont, tanner hall, etc). But before you can do that you need to be well rounded enough. As I finish watching all the edits I have seen 2-4 vids with some lines other than park. Which is all I'm asking for. Before you can ski pow, you gotta be able to ski trees and carve groomers pretty well. If you never ski anything other than park, than you lack a bunch of basic skills, being able to pick lines, ski steeps with hop turns, carve groomers, do some tree skiing, etc. The only vid i saw that did that quite well was Garret Capel. He didnt have much park in there, but it's not something hard to learn. I didn't do much park until this year and i went from small jumps to large in 4 days, but learning technique and quick thinking in picking the right line as you ski trees quickly, thats something that takes time. These are skills I'm looking for, add park on top of that, you have a winner. But I don't think park should come first. That's my point.

your reasoning is kinda stupid, i raced for like 8 years meaning that i can clearly carve the hill pretty well, but when i make a edit i dont see the point of filming groomers its rather boring and expected that i can do it. I know for some of these kids in the pg13 contest, they dont have the option of powder or drops as on the east coast, or for me ontario, we just dont have these features, and 90% of the time the hills are so short turing doesnt even make sense when your skis are dull as fuck.

You must not have watched Leland age 7. His vid showed him ripping pow/woods/moguls and park. NS'ers ranked him 5th or 6th so I'd say this entire thread is way off.
