Pettitor mount

Hey guys searched the thread and Internet in general and wasn't finding much on this. Just picked up a set of '14 pettitor and wondering where to mount.

Before I bought I was thinking +4 after reading seth goes +5 wondered if I shold push them up there or somewhere else completely. Coming from racing and some more technical big mountain stuff and want to be able to press, butter, ski and land switch in these but also still charge big lines.

Read one review that said nasty hinge point at +5 on the 2013s so nervous about that a little. Any advice would be awsome and anybody riding the pettitors would love to hear your thoughts on performance overall. Thanks

Skier info: 160 lbs 5' 9" riding a 179cm with marker griffon

1.Seth Morrison mounts so far back because he only does powder.

2. Dont race.

3. With such a fat and directional ski, mounting closer to center wont take that much away from pow skiing

4. The closer to center, the easier spins and butters will be. The ski seems quite long for you, so I would personally mount +3.5 to +4.

I think seth at +5 (-2.5) from center is actually pretty far forward. Ski has a ton of rocker and my other touring/directional ski is a 175 so 179 seemed appropriate. Also isn't the pettitor a pretty symmetrical ski? I wouldn't consider it directional by any means.

Was between +4 and +5. Just don't want to be too far forward where I get pitched OTF all the time but need to be able to get up on the tips for butters and switch pow landings.

Any review/advice from anybody riding the pettitor now would be awome. Other mount advice appreciated as well. Thanks

i typically find mounting 3cm back from center works well. been doing that for years on all my skis except a park specific ski

@freeskibum82 thanks! So I'll prob go +4.5 from recommended (center is +7.5) kinda what I started thinking while the comments died down but nice to hear it from someone else. Either way that's a lot more tail back there than I'm used too so should be fun

With any sketchy tip bite/dive anything? What do you ski like? @Jaybrtn

Nope, not really. You might have to lean back a little more in deeper stuff but that's about it. I use them in deep pow, tree runs, all mountain, even groomers. I'd mount them back a bit if I were using them for a more directional purpose, but its a fairly symmetrical ski so i mounted them as such. I use it as a fun, playful ski, not as a hard charging gnarly chutes ski. I have others for that.

I'll give that a thought. Maybe push it up to +5 like k2 says seth does. -1 from center seems a little aggressive for my race background and what I want to ski like but with a good tip/tail detune +5 (-2.5) shouldn't feel too bad

You may want to push it further back if that's what you're comfortable with. I mounted that far forward because I wanted something I could play around on more.

I'm done racing now and my other ski is a traditional mounted rmu crm so don't want them to be too similar. I wanted a ski that I could start to play around on more and work to landing more of my airs backward and butters. I just didn't want to mount too far forward so it was crazy uncomfortable to get used to. Adapt pretty easy to skis though and want to start skiing more like a freerider but always kinda keep those charge roots

If you want to learn switch and to butter better, why not mount them a little forward, and use a different set of skis for your hard charging lines. It could be a fun change of pace. if its really that bad, you can always remount.

That's what I was thinking, but am I wrong in saying -2.5 or -3 is pretty far forward? With the rocker up front I'm thinking I should be able to get on the tips for butters and tail should be enough for switch skiing and landing. Just my thoughts but let me know if you feel different. -1 would balance the ski out for spins but in terms of switch and butters wouldn't I be good at -3?

I think you'll be fine at -3, although I've never skied the pettitors that far back, so maybe someone else chime in? I mean it's pretty far forward in comparison to a race ski, but tons of people center mount their fat skis. But I've honestly never skied anything other than center or close to center mounted, so I might not be the best person to ask.

Alright. Thanks for all the input though it's helped a lot. Considering im coming off injury and my first time skiing this year will be in march I'm going to start a -3. If I like it and start to get more comfortable with the skis I can move from there.

dead center otherwise we will think your a pussy.... and you don't want that.

more tail

= easier cliff stomps NAAAMMMM SayyIINNN
