PETITION: KEEP TOBACCO OUT OF SKIING

There's something wrong with NS when something like this can be defended. I said it earlier in the thread and I'll say it again. It's not about freedoms to use tobacco. It's not about the money that goes to the industry. The point is that General Tobacco's money is going toward the sponsorship of role models for youth. Youth as in under 21. Look at Momentum, where Pete is coaching this summer. Their average camper age is 16.

My point? Skiing is about active, healthful lifestyles that promote leadership, creativity, community, and friendships. It sounds cheesy, but it's true. When tobacco destroys so much of these awesome things, how can this ad be justified?

I can't wait to renounce my US citizenship and move to Revy.

i believe that people can make there own decisions......who am I to "hide" them from the real world?(liberal)
Others believe they need to "take charge" and make these decisions for others...by hiding/blocking/preventing. (conservative)

dude u need to get ur facts straight when it comes to snus... snus is nowhere near as bad as smoking ... or what u americans associate with "chew" it is completely different!

this is inside swedish snus like general, ettan, kronan, catch etc..(more or less depending on brand):

Water(around 50%), pure tobbacco, nicotine, salt, flavoring, preservatives, aromas of different kinds.

this is nothing in comparison to a cigarett or what u americans call "chew"

so its not at all as comparable to smoking as u think....

it also can not give second hand smoke or any second hand effects because u have it in ur mouth...

in sweden where snus is prefered to smoking, it is the country that has least cases of lung cancers in the whole of europe, and oral cancers are not, or at least have not till this point been directly linked to snus... and that is fact!

snus is candy compared to cigarettes and its for people who like the taste of it and who might want a dose of nicotine once in a while, it is no where near as addictive as cigarrets are nor as addictive as "chew".

and snus is what is being advertised so dnt go back to this smoking shit...

and just for notice pete o has been snusing for alot longer then he has had the sponsorship from them....

and for all the people speaking about pete being the only one advertising snus who is a skier... u are just ignorant...

bibby just had a can out in a vid the other day....

last years mega joss vid hit colby in team america actually snuses in the vid and he talks about it in the lyrics... so why all this big deal now.... general snus had a stall by the poc stall in the denver SIA conference thing ...

how does it not have to do with this thread? i mean im adressing points which have been talked about through out this thread...

rat poison wouldnt be used as a preservative or anything near it .... the reason why people think that there is rat poison in cigarrets is because some ingredients used to manufacture rat poision is in cigarettes, but there isnt delibirate doses of rat poison in cigarettes, and most of those are used as flavorings. (none of which are in snus)

and i think u are miss entupreting me, im trying to educate u about snus before u start making too many assumptions...

i dnt mind wheter or not adds in freeskier or in other magazines are tobacco related, fine somebody young can pick up the mag and the adds have effect on them but if they dnt consider the pros cons of what they are doing before they are doing it, then they are at fault....

i dnt mind people who smoke, even though id never pick up a cigarette, but i can defanatly see people hating people who smoke in ques etc, but that just disrespectful of them and more then not people wouldnt smoke in lines....

 
The point of the thread is that IT HAS NO PLACE ADVERTISING IN THIS SPORT.

Unless GT can prove that the demo of freeskiing is over 18 years old, they should not be advertising. It is against the law. Period.

Throughout this thread, those who oppose smuggs' point say that "It's their choice" or "Snus isn't as bad as smoking" or "If you fall for advertising you must be a moron".

That's not the point. The point is that it is ILLEGAL.

solution would be to put parental advisory....

but Freeskier can consider everyones wants and needs and if its illegal to post the ad then they will find out sooner or later...
 
what'you care if other ppl smoke or pack? deal with them smelling like lounge cancer, it hardly effects you.

Seriously, ferrari, ducati, and until this year Team Penske in racing have been able to be sponsored by Marlboro without actually have the name on any of the cars or bikes and they bring in alot of money. In my opinion the only people who can provide more money than tobacco is oil

peter olenicks biggest fan in the world, nicole saw an edit on freeskier.com with a general suns add and started to wonder what is snus?

then on her way into the local store, at only 3 feet off the ground, was a colorful snus add, someone might ask why its 3 feet off the ground? Do midgets snus?

its sad because even at the age of 14 she thought she was immune to advertisements and cute shinny colored altoid-esque tins full of freshly chilled mint flavored tobacco product, but she was wrong. it caught her eye again as she grabbed a pack of colorful gum and winds up spending her lunch money on a tin of snus she bought from a guy drinking out front of the store, just to check it out.

Chewing tobacco ads on Jon's website? Not cool. I agree with Smuggs. Keep this toxic shit out of our sport and out of our lifestyle, and keep the media and websites associated with this sport free of advertisements for it.

You'll find ads for these all other the place/resorts. Not sure why your only banging after tobacco....if you feel this strongly against "toxic" materials in the sport and the youth...then man up and attack it all, not just one substance.
While we are at it! Lets block all edits(or music in edits) that talk mention weed/drinking/killing/purple drank etc.......since you know...its OUR sport and OUR lifestyle..and young kids have full access to all of then right here on NS! Ban Tanner/Spriggs/4bi9/clown school etc!!! They might influence young ns'ers to get into toxic materials...right? No different then your toxic tobacco ads...correct? Why arent you outraged on tanners new movie teaser then?! I mean....weed is ILLEGAL/lung cancer(maybe) and we must block our youth from seeing that coming from a legend of our sport...right?! Send him a message...let him know how you feel about your little 14 year old skier that just watched it.

how do you feel about banning anything legal/toxic here on NS? such as edits/songs/skiers?

Considering NS does not have an age requirement, do you believe that that NS staff should be banning/blocking/booting anyone(pro or not) who places material(edits, songs,media, thread posts whatever) on here that refer to illegal/or addictive/ or toxic substances that could be abused? This would include references to tobacco, weed, underage binge drinking, rap songs in edits talking about murder, gang hand signs etc.
As we all know, many younger skiers look up to certain other skiers, and this could be directly influencing then.
I also recognize that advertisements are for profit, where SOME skiing stuff would just be for entertainment. But, if you want to get real picky, explain Tanners new movie or 4bi9. They are producing ski movies/clothing for a profit also(much smaller scale of course..and much deserved).
So, why arent you also directly attacking newschoolers staff for allowing this to happen on there site in which youths are apart of?
 
It has been discussed in this shit show of a thread that newschoolers.com somehow has an average age of like 22, so this means that technically you could advertise anything on here. but then like someone said peter olenick is sitting up in whistler with a bunch of 15 year olds around him that's hard to agree with.

and i haven't seen a general suns add on ns.com, this whole thread was for awareness of d' evils (tobacco) that are somehow infecting the sport dominated by children.

like i said before, how do you explain the low level signs, tobacco next to candy, colorful tins? its all to get kids attention. and the more you see/use it the less you notice how bad it is.

I will fight to protect the rights of those being oppressed or restricted by others... that includes smoking.If you can't deal with a little smoke in a bar you can fuck off and drink your mikes hard lemonade in you're vacume sealed house.keep your ideals out of and away from my and everyone else's body.
Oh and fun fact, the leading causes of death are weight related. that means heart disease, diabetes etc...If you were really concerned for people's well being you'd be boycotting fast food, soda and energy drinks. Live the life you want to and don't try to control other people because that's what you're trying to do.
