so if my mom finds out i ever do a flip she will shit a brick and never let me ski again. She says she is protecting me from brakeing my back. so how do i convinse her to let me do some flips

uhhmmm?????

just do it and land it. once she has seen you do it she will gradually care less and less. But seriously? if your mom has that much control over you i dont think your old enough to be doing flips

A guy on my team had the same problem. As his coach, I certainly wasn't going to tell his mom if he did flips. I think this is one of those "what she doesn't know can't hurt her" things.

Right you are. If one of my guys gets hurt on my team, that's on me. For 25 years of teaching and coaching I have had a pretty good record. One broken arm, one broken and dislocated finger and 2 concussions. If you approach things safely you usually don't hurt people. If thread creator is just planning on going out and hucking a flip in the park for the first time, that's usually a bad idea.

My parents wouldnt let me do flips on my tramp but then I started corking and stuff and showing them I was solid and they just gave up at one point, they knew I knew what I was doing...

fuck it ill just go for it and the thing about my mom controlling me its not that its just my mom will find out and then im fucked

just do them and film you doing alot of them and show her a bideo and be like see its easy ive been doing them for years and never told you. would she make you not ski or something?

just let them know your taking the right steps and being safe...i had this problem a few years ago but it was because my dad was worried about me being hurt for other sports so i just practiced all my stuff on a tramp, made sure i had it down and thats all you can really do. after that you just gotta be committed and hopefully then youl stomp it

I didn't tell me my mom that I was doing flips. This last season I tried a back flip, under rotated, fractured 3 of my vertebrates. Broke my back. Try it on water ramps, or listen to your mom.

Just make sure if you're going to try a flip you are comfortable flipping on a diving board or tramp already. It's going to feel awkward your first time, and you just gotta get past that point of upside down. Try it on a little kicker in to pow and you should do fine.

My parents are the same way. My mom flipped shit the second she heard I was doing switch 1's. Your best bet would probably be to try it in deep pow first. It's hard to hurt yourself when you land in pow. Other than that I told my mom this, "Mom I really like skiing, infact I love it. I want to progress at my own pace, not yours, I respect you caring enough to not want me to get hurt. but I really want to get good at the sports that I love." bamb then I was allowed to do anything.

This! Before I will let my guys make an attempt on snow they have to do 100 back flips on a tramp the week before. 34 tucks, 33 pikes, 33 layouts. This helps them to get comfortable knowing that they can speed up or slow down their rotation. Why people usually get hurt trying backs is that they keep looking up to the sky and never spot for their landing. "Look for the ground, you'll get around; look at the sky, you're going to die". Also, think about humping the sky! Throw your hips up and then start looking for your landing. Being a little on your tails is OK but trying to full on butter a back flip is bad. You either smack your head on the back of the jump or you can't stop your rotation and land on your back if your lucky. If you're not lucky you end up rotating another 180 and lawn dart. Those that do that usually end up with a permanent new mode of transportation.

aren't you a little worried about the liability of not disclosing everything to a minor's parents? as a coach do you use waivers or anything to cover your own interests cause paying for a lawyer if you get sued might hurt your season.

Guess you didn't read the whole thread, but yes they do sign waivers. Yes I could be sued. You can be sued for breathing. If one of my guys went out and tried it on his own without any encouragement from me, a good lawyer could convince a jury that it was still my fault. I put the health and safety of my guys ahead of concern for liability.

As a coach I have two options. If I tell my guys that I can't teach them how to do inverted tricks, they will build a jump somewhere and try it on their own. I can either let them go the trial and error route which could lead to them becoming severely injured or I can help them learn these tricks as safely as possible. What would be your suggestion?

My parents said the same thing like 7-8 years ago when I first got twins. Honestly I think that scared me so much back then that it is part of the reason why I suck today. Just do it anyways. Its always easier to ask for forgiveness than permission

Hahaha this reminds me of when my mom saw me doing mistys on flatland in my backyard a year or so ago... But seriously if you think you can safely try one, go for it.
