Pep's Quote

hey, i was wondering if you guys could help me out in writing a speech. The branching off point is Pep's quote and basically it is going to be about skiing and how it's a lifestyle, how it fills up our whole lives even when we are not skiing.

what i would like from you guys is your opinions on the quote and how you think it affects you or how skiing affects you. Something other than the obvious "I'm on newschoolers all day". Maybe explain WHY skiing as Pep says "emcompasses everything". anyways any help i can get is greatly appreciated

in case you haven't read the quote, here it is,

Over time most people experience life involving love, suffering, compassion and an unspeakable drive for something...for me there's skiing, nothing more nothing less and it encompasses everything, every day I'm out there.

talk about how skiing can be everything from prime to painful, but it always draws you back.

Where did you get your clothes, the toilet store?

yeah. Sorry I'm not sure if i really asked for the right thing.

I actually just wanna know what you guys think of the quote and how it relates to your individual lives. Why it's something you do, how u see it reflect in you lives.. and just your opinions of the quote.

I already know what i'm doing

talk about the freedom it brings for the few minutes of your run...only you decide which path to take....

oh I see. well i guess what i told you to write about it pretty much my opinion

Where did you get your clothes, the toilet store?

it's not something that i do, it's something that i am. the connection between man and skis can only be understood through experience...

I dated a girl who is 30. It works out fine till the bio clock starts waging internal warfare on her inner psychi and makes her crave children like no other. Then all of a sudden you're like, "holy shit, this is no bueno." -JackBach

Skiing isnt someithing that you just do it is who you are. I dont just go skiing I am a skier. When I am not skiing I am always thinking about it. Thats why im on NS 24/7

There are times when I feel that qoute really has meaning for me. At certain times of the year i cant think of anything else other then skiing. but then my attention span suffers and i start thinking about chicks, and sex, but in the end it always goes back to skiing, like " if this chick watched me ski i'd totally have a better chance at getting with her". so yeah everything in my life revolves around skiing.

Im RICK JAMES bitch

i do experience life in the first way pep says, but there is also always skiing for me, ive even thought about it during sex, and i am always thinking about it a little bit at least, but usually a lot

"In rode the Lord of the Nazgul. A great black shape against the fires beyond, he loomed up, grown to a vast menace of despair. In rode the Lord of the Nazgul, under the archway that no enemy ever yet had passed, and all fled before his face.

All save one. There, waiting silent and still in the space before the gate, sat Gandalf upon Shadowfax : Shadowfax, who alone among the free horses of the earth endured the terror, unmoving, steadfast as a graven image in Rath Dinen."

You experience every emotion imaginable in one single day of skiing. Anticipation as you see the mountain on the drive in; happiness and satisfaction as you carve your first turns of the day; nervous on your first approach to a large jump or a cliff, and also a gut-wrenching fear that doesn't make you back down, but instead makes it all worth it; pride in your own ability, and your own accomplishments. Only upon reflection of one single day of skiing can you appreciate how truly lucky we are to have this sport that we revolve around.

That's skiing for me. That's why I think we all do it.

We'll have you dead pretty soon.

as the quote says..it emcompasses everything, everyday...when u love skiing that much u cant help but think about it everyday and just want to be doing it anytime you cant. you get injured badly yet u wanna get right back out there asap....its addictive. the feeling when ur on the slopes(whether its bustin through some deep pow, straightlining the steeps, or throwing a huge misty 5 that is just super floaty) is just so incredible and amzing that it is like a high..hence addicting. thats what i think anyways..hope it helps

Some random thoughts on teh subject:

If you're a poor student and on a trip that you CAN'T afford, you live off of cans of tuna and mr. noodles because you budgeted only enough money for gas, lift-tickets and beer and sharing a single bed with 6 friends and even that budget gets shot to hell when you get to quebec and the strip clubs call because... you're sharing a room with 6 other guys.

when packing for any trip that will involve skiing one says to him/herself "Boots, check! Poles, Check! Skipants, Check! Hoodie, Check! Goggles, Check! Gloves, Check! skisocks, Check! Hat, Check!" and when you get there, you're confused why you only have one pair of underwear on shirt for going out with, no toothpaste, no normal socks and only a bag full of tuna cans.

When you're not skiing, you're obviously thinking about skiing. And when you're skiing you're thinking about what you'd do next time you ski.

When you see a handrail in the summer you think "I wonder if I can get an inrun built for that? what about traffic? is there any nubs that will stop me?"

You suddenly become alien to friends/loved ones that don't ski all the time in the winter and develop "Winter Friends".. cause you usually only associate with them in the winter.

Heres another good one in the new freeskier by derek spong: "When I'm out there skiing, everything doesn't seem real. Because when you are following your dream it's like nothing else exists in the world except you and your passion for snow." Classic

They lie about marijuana. Tell you pot smoking makes you unmotivated. Lie! When your high, you can do everything you can normaly, just as well. You just realize its not worth the fucking effort. There is a difference.-Bill Hicks

And on the 7th day, God stepped back and said "There is my creation, perfect in every way....Oh dammit I left weed all over the place, now they will think I want them to smoke it. Now I'll have to create republicans.-Bill Hicks

i dont reckon pepe said that qoute, some marketing manager from oakley probably made it up. he might have though.

May all your interventions be Humanitarian.

i dont think skiing is that overcommercialized but maybe, it would make me sad if a marketing stooge wrote that

you are doing a speech on a quote from pep? umm, that is pretty hard core. the only thing i have to say is that skiing has a culture just like any ethnicity. but the difference is that ski culture is controlled not by tradition, but by the cutting edge. most of ski culture comes out of what the pros do, what the companies manufacture and by what the magazines publish. the future of ski culture is up for grabs to whoever we think is the coolest.
