People who shouldn't be in the park

First off let me say that everyone on the mountain is entitled to ski where ever as long as they're not endangering others. But i think some people need to stay out of the park, or the mountains need to do a better job educating people on the dangers and the ettiquette involved with park skiing. I'm talking about the run of the mill skier who thinks it's fun to take their family through the park. I find it very frustrating as they're endangering everyone (especially themselves). Several times i've had to mark off a jump and tend to a injured skier who had no idea how big the jump was they were going off.

I think park skiing is very similiar to a surfing lineup. In surfing, you don't just paddle out to an expert break and go for waves, because they'll own you, or someone will take care of it for you. But in surfing there's a clear code of ettiquette that every begginning surfer is taught or should be taught.

We've all read the skiers code, but it's not park specific. I think parks should be better marked and in low traffic areas. Kirkwood probably has the best regulation, you have to buy a pass ($5 for the season) to ski the totally roped off superpark. This keeps all the people who aren't in the park to ride park, out of the park.

So that's my little rant, i'm not sure what can be done, but i think the issue needs to be addressed better.

soo true...not just in the park but everywhere on the mountain..One time i was stopped on outer limits at killington and some random snowboarder couldnt stop and hit me..I was so pissed off I just went nuts..they didnt even say sorry

 
Many mountains should do what my mountain does. They don't even allow people on regular skis into the big park. This makes it so that only people who know what they are doing (except for idiots on rented skiboard/snowblades) are in the park. There is a MUCH smaller park further up the mountain that is open to everyone, but the good park is only open to twin tip skis, snowboards, and skiboards.

Life is simple: Eat, sleep, ski.

Apparently throwing snowballs at moving vehicles is a felony and can land you in prison for a year. Who knew?
 
Yeah people who don't know what they are doing in the park can get themselves and others hurt bad. Last season this kid did a 5 on a big table ain our park and just came maching down the landing switch. He;s was looking over his shoulder but this little kid was in his blind spot sitting down in the landing. The skier saw him at the last moment and just barely avoided the kid. The skiers is one of the best riders in our park and if it had been anyone else in that position that little kid would have been going to the hospital.

I think a lot of it comes down to irresponsibility by the parents. They just assume that some one's going to look out for their kids when they let them go in the park and that just isn't the case. Also parents need to learn what park etiquette is and educate themselves and their kids on it.

haha When I went surfing for my first time this summer thats all I did.. paddle out as far as I could and get tuned. Nobody layed down the 'code of conduct' for surfing for me.

So today at Blackcomb I was ready to drop into the pipe. I waited in line, called 'dropping', the whole bit. Then some clueless father and his barely skiing son ride right around the lineup, and with nary a glance uphill, proceed to snake me. This is the stuff that pisses me off. Now because of the actions of others my pipe run is fucked. I've done my bit to prevent chaos and injury so that everyone has fun and gets a good run in the pipe. You should too.

I have no problem at all with people learning, just please observe etiquette.

been there, talked about that, posted about that. This is been said, done and talked about and always still goes on. The park pass is being brought into affect at almost all intrawest resorts now and other mountains are starting to follow. It is working. And this has been going on for awhile trust me many people are aware of these problems.

^ i know exactly what hes talkin about man. I ski the most populated mountain in the us i bet its called mountain creek the closest mt to the biggest city in the us -New York City. We get every type of gaper alive here, we've had kids get there heads cracked open cause they were landed on, little girls almost get landed on im talkin INCHES from 5 year olds dieing, and all kidns of ALMOST hit or misses. Ive seen a lot of it man and I know what hes talkin about. Thats why creek finally is adopting the park pass.

u guys need to chill, there will always be newbs that are retards and dont know their shit. i love how alot of ppl on here bash and hate the joeys that launch the lip of rails off to the side. i honestly wouldnt have it any other way, they wipe out and yard sale all their shit, it great, some of the funniiest shit ill see all day. sure, they 'fuck the lips up'...no more than some douche hacking away at it trying to 270 on his first couple attemps. now i agree w/ the dads draggin their kids through, but u cant do much about it xcept cuss him out and piss him off, OR, skip a hit at the table, ski down to him and let him know his joey or janie might get rocked in here. i find the later works better. so, to make a long story short or whatever, ull have to get over the fact that ppl are idiots, so just relax, laugh at em, and try not to hit em to hard when they chill at the end of the rail

Out here (in the west) where most styles are created, everyone these days is rockin the one shoulder backpack. You get yourself a tight pack like a Dakine or some random skate pack, and just drape that shiz over your right shoulder. That means when you are jibbin the park, you gotta do all your grabs opposite, with your left hand. Otherwise the pack will fall off your right shoulder and all the girls will gasp and think you have no steeze. Another thing to do with the pack has to do with when you are on a rail. Once you are securely on the rail, just let the pack slide off your shoulder and just hang that thing off your arm. This lets everyone know that you really don't care you are on the rail at all, thus making your steeze that much better. Plus when you 270 off, the pack whips around and takes out any gapers trying to snap pics of your fly ass.

Most everyone pays tribute to the creater of this style by rockin 'the kevin' almost every day. So if you see someone with mad 'the kevin' style, don't hesitate to go up to them and say 'Dude, your 'the kevin' steeze is so tight I think I am gonna go home and punch my mom in the face.' That will let the person know they are indeed cool, and that you will be rocking 'the kevin' steeze sometime soon.
 
i think the pass is a good idea.

another idea ive had is like a drivers license, but for skiers and boarders. It wouldn't take as long to earn, but you should have to have proof that you can stop and turn and what not, because it scares the crap out of me when people are on steep or icy runs and all they can do to slow do to slow down is snowplow.

I also think before snowboarders go to the park they need to learn how to turn both ways so they dont just slide slip all overthe place

Another thing is kids under a certain age should have to be with their parents so that they dont just fly down the mountain. Their just to dangerous on their own. There have been times where when i was looking in front of me, there was a little kid out of my field of vision because i was looking right over him.

 
if i owned a mountain, the only person not allowed to ride the park would be ATLANTASKI...he wouldnt be allowed on the mtn at all

dude at stratton they make you watch a 10 minute video and you have to get a special pass and show it just to get into big park and last tuesday 2 runs after having to go through the video n shit, this female snowboarder goes of the side of a jump as im hitting it head on and i received a grade II dislocation of my shoulder, and she has the balls to yell at me for going to fast cause i almost killed her. people like that should be kicked of the mtn, the video said that the only place onthe mtn where the skier uphill has the right of way is in the park yet they dont pay attention or realize this just pisses me off and i havent been able to ski for over a week...

^ unfortunately its only the main park on Vernon Peak but whatever at least we have it now. Thank god and im sure if u kno marty, sean, dave, julien or anyone else on the park crew they will just let you in cause they are cool like that.

well i went skiing with my friend, and his dad and brother are exactly like that, and at my mountain you need to by those passes, it mont avila by montreal, and its funny cause they bought the pass

all people deserve the right to learn but i know what u mean about people that need to be more responsible and to not ski beyond their means, i remember last year some guy tought the step down kicker was a whale or some dumb shit and had his son follow him over it and the 4 year old kid fell like a good 6-8 feet onto the deck and got pretty screwed up,

Very true. I get very afraid when people simply cut through the park and get in the way of others. I am all for learning, we all had to. But be careful and be cautious of others.

at my mountain we have ski school cum thru and learn 2 fucking turn in our parks and pipe. that really pisses me off, ive gone up to the instructors and told them its not the place 2 learn but they dont listen

 
i was going full out at this large kicker and this boarder who was my age, easily 50 ft in front of me, that i thought would hit it-he stopped right at the lip completley and like just jumped off of it and i has to stop really fast. i was too close and i slid sideways over the side and jammed my thumb up maybe dislocated and banged my leg. i was like 'WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING! YOU JUST CANT STOP LIKE THAT YOU PIECE OF SHIT' and he was all like 'ehh its not my fault ass hole you suck' i was getting up to beat the fuck out of him, but i was alone and he had a friend and it was near the bottom. i sweat to god if i see this helmet wearing stupid acne ridden fuck again im kicking his ass

I dont like the idea of only letting in twin tippers and stuff in parks, that just leads to more people that have twins but cant use them, not that they'res anything wrong with that... just more poeple that stand around and fuck up the lips.

we've got 2 different parks, and as of right now the small park has like a 6 foot table and a 5 foot table and a box rail. the 'big' park has 3, a 15, a 12 and a 20. most of the people stay in the little park, so its crowded, but the big park has quite a few people too, alot of them are pretty good though.

 
Yea at my mountain for some reason there is always like families and groups of ppl that will ski or board in and just sit in the middle of the course to watch ppl session a jump yet they sit in the line of a rail or a box or sum other jump and it just pisses me off to no end~

Pete is currently sulking around Mt. Hood, shooting with Poor Boyz Productions and hitting on Kristi Leskinen. She hates guys, Pete lamented, so it’s not going good. Apparently Canada isn’t the only thing that’s tough for Pete to get into.

I hate snowboarders who sit in front of rails and jumps, like they just sit there and do nothing and they are right in the way...I also hate people who stop on the flat parts of a steep run and just watch people coming down, yesterday I was coming full speed, and these snowboarders were just sitting on the flat part and I almost hit one, and my dad got his ski caught up in the tip of one of the guys who was sitting beacause there was like no place to pass, and he crashed...the snowboarders started laughing, I was pissed

At my hill, the park tech will cut your pass if you hit the rail jumps without taking the rail or if you just hang around and do nothing. I think this is a really good idea.
