People who boost their self esteem by wearing expensive clothing

Hahaha, where did I get this reputation.

I think there is an important distinction to be made between people buying clothes that are expensive for no reason other than the hype and name (Rock & Republic jeans, Gucci, most Dolce & Gabanna and Versace etc) and stuff that's actually really high quality and in some cases interestingly designed (Somet jeans, Lanvin, Raf, Robert Geller etc). Personally I can't think of anything streetwear I've spend anywhere close to 400$ on, just dress shoes and suits. Sure, a large number of the people who spend a lot on clothes don't understand what they're doing, but that's really pretty true for consumers in almost any area.
 
thats pretty much how alot of my buddies are. they dont really dress up. when we meet our parents up for dinner, we dont really care how we dress, we've gone to one of the nicest restaurants in the area (where dress code is necessary) in sweatpants and a nice sweatshirt. they let us in because they see our parents there a few times a week. one time we took my jeep through mud pits and had it valet parked lol, the look on the dudes face was priceless, even left him a puddle of water in the floor pan.
 
This thread makes me thinks of Ed Hardy caps, everybody has them, they are fucking ugly, have roses and plastic diamonds on it, and cost 150 bucks.
 
i think that everyone feels good wereing "nice" clothes that look good on them and whatever

but i don't think it necessarily has to be expensive

but i get where you are coming from i am really not a fan of those kids that were expensive clothing and then think they are better than anyone else

i just don't understand how that can make a person feel more important

and i personally am n=mor comfortable but i feel a little more confident in "nicer" clothes
 
yea, im not that arrogant or pretentious where i go to a nice restaurant like a dirt bag just because of who my parents are.

if the environment dictates a high dress code then i adhere to it.

Buying nice clothes because you really like the brands clothing, you like the quality, or you made some sick scrill and you want to treat yourself are totally legit reasons. Buying expensive shit because everyone else likes it however, is so fucking stupid
 
I don't think he quite meant it like that but ya, I agree with you. When I was like 14 I thought dress codes were gay and whatnot. Now I love to go out to a nice place and look like a respectable adult (I'm 19).
 
well shit look at us, im sure your gunna feel more confident rollin up to a park hit in your new g-suit / LD / Saga / HH / whatever than f you rocked a 1994 starters 49er jacket and some old ass bole' goggles. There stuff fits with their lifestyle, they invest money into expensive clothes, we invest into expensive skiis, boots, bindings season pass's outerwear and gas to get their. It just a lifestyle choice and we are everybit as guilty of it as they are.
 
Thing is, the technical outerwear actually serves a useful purpose.

Same with multiple pair of skis, it's not like you can ski pow with a 65 wasted 165 slalom ski. Our expensive stuff actually serves a technical purpose and is more useful because it is expensive, it also lasts longer. So it has more benefits than just looks or durability.
 
well their gucci suits serve a technical purpose of getting them into high profile clubs and bringin P-10 girls home.
 
did you adhere to the dress code though? i mean it's kinda rude to go to a restaurant with a dress code knowing what it is, and show up in a violation of it, and sit down and eat, while every other customer followed the dress code just to eat there.
 
and at the same time, you can buy functional outerwear for much cheaper than you would pay for these suits. Also, why do some of us have more conifdence when our suits are 3 sizes to big? Throw a bandana around the face and then many of us act way better than anyone else in the lift line, yellin out obsenities while a father has his 8 year old son right behind teachin him to ski. Im just sayin it works both ways.
 
Yes true. The whole gangster thing just makes people have ore confidence, it gives them something to hide behind perhaps? I dunno hat seemed how it was for me my senior year when I wore XXXXL crap, it's really weird. I could write pages and pages about it but it would be boring as fuck.
 
not really, not when its the community's money that goes to that place to keep it alive. what difference does it make if i eat my filet mignion in a suit, or in sweatpants? we know the owners, they are friends of my parents, they always eat there which allows me room to do what i want. plus i chill with their daughter lol
 
i'm not talking about what the restaurant thinks of it, i'm talking about the other customers. customers who dress up just so they can eat at a nice restaurant. if i was one of those customers, i might be kind of offended by the fact that i had to dress up and you didn't, simply because you know the owners. can you see how that might be a tad rude?
 
Ya man, I mean it's not a huge deal but I would definitely not be thrilled. It's not that you are disrupting shit, it's just that it is expected that people will dress up nicely, it just makes the atmosphere better.
 
give me some Levi's and a Tee shirt, and im set.

in the summer i wear jeans a work tee shirt. then when i get home it goes to some basket ball shorts and a tee shirt. then come the baseball pants and Jersey.....

that being said i do get dressed up when the setting requires it.

i dont like spending money on cloths. i buy a ton of shit on sale.

yeah i guess so in some aspect. but those are the same ppl that turn their nose up at you when your not dressed the same. but yet, your 20 and your eating at the same restaurants "mingling" with some of the most successful ppl in the area. its kinda like a slap in the face to them for judging by looks.
 
You sound like a huge douchebag, my best friend's dad owns a golf course, do I golf there in sweatpants? hell fucking no, I'm surprised your parent's friends weren't pissed at you for not showing them the respect they deserve. If I worked hard and poured my money into a restaurant to build up a status that gave me the right to demand a dress code, I wouldn't let some kid, regardless of how good friends I am with his parents, come in and make me look like a hack

haha, it's funny you say that, because i actually have ridden a few bulls in my lifetime. anyways, i do a lot of running around, parkour, biking, etc., and i don't really know how it happens but my cheap shirts always get holes in them, and i always end up with holes in the knees and/or ass of my jeans (i've actually had to patch a few pair the holes were so big). my designer shirts don't fall apart unless i am rolling around in the dirt with them, and even then they hold up a hell of a lot better than my billabong shirts. of the cheap shirts i have right now, i guarantee you not one of them

is in the kind of condition i want to make a first impression in.
 
honestly, i spend wayyy too much on clothes. it's getting to be disgusting, but it's all my own money, and i have zero debt, so it's all good. kinda.

personally, i just love clothes. they make me feel awesome. there's no bullshitting it, haha.

anyways, there are the girls who spend too much on stupid designer clothes. like juicy couture. those sweatsuits and shit cost soo much, and they are so dumb looking and they just suck. theyre comfortable, but not worth that much.

you spend the most money on basics. stuff that you will always need or have. like a white button up shirt, a nice sweater, some dress pants, and black heels. that's where you splurge, and that's where you spend all the money.

fuck this just makes me want to go shopping. i cant even explain this any better because im getting so flustered.
 
oh, and you can't put Versace in the same category as Gucci. it should be in with Lanvin, Oscar de la Renta, and YSL. Versace is glamour, D&G and Gucci are not.

 
i am by no means a douchebag. if they had a problem with how i dressed they would have addressed that to us. the fact is that they dont, they treat me like im an extension of the family, they come over for Christmas and thanksgiving dinner.... stop trying to tell me what i can and cant do, democrat.

So my jeans are $200 a pair. I have had the someones for three years, they have not lost there color or there fit. I think you do get more when you pay more. Also, when you buy from those stores like saks fifth ave no matter how long you have had them, they will exchange them if somthing is wrong. Its just better quality. My shirts are the same also.

Yeah we're talking about completely different things. Men's and Women's clothes are different animals. Different things are important, and different companies consequently hold sway. Lanvin is a high-fashion street brand for guys... YSL is basically not even a player right now. Everyone's talking about Geller, Raf (as always), Acne, Filippa K, Tim Hamilton, Rick Owens and to a lesser extent Michael Bastian, Patrick Ervell, Shipley & Halmos, Kris Van Assche among others on that 2nd tier. Girls look for totally different things in clothes and the design philosophy of the company can vary immensely. So, apples to oranges. For the record, gucci and D&G both have HORRENDOUS price to quality ratio in mens, although some gucci dress shoes are arguably worth the price for the lasts... but you could just buy from people like Lobb, Greene and Vass and do better for the price. I have some black label Dolce&Gabanna dress shirts, they're extremely well made and fit slim off the rack but the long collar got old very quickly and the $3-400 retail price is just robbery when I can get shirts custom made or MTM for around $100.

So stereotypical... I wear expensive clothes but im not all into myself and think im better then everyone. Its more about the quality of the clothes then anything. I wont go buy stuff just for the name brand Ill buy it because i like it.... If I find something in a thrift store that I like Ill buy it. Its all about personal style and preference not just being rich and spoiled and if it makes some people feel better about themselves then so be it . Whats sad is the people that judge them on it...
