When I was going up the chair today there were some little kids sitting in the middle of a pile of snow on the side of a groomed run, then some older guys were like 'Yeah, Mikey's gonna backflip it'. And there goes this local ripper (snowboarder) named Mikey Pederson and he backflips off this tiny little jump thing, he landed back a bit and got back up and he was like 'Think I can do it on that one?' and the kids were like 'yeah!' and he tucked the short distance to the next one and did a clean backflip off of it.

Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that this guy can do MASSIVE 360 indy's on the hip we had last year, AND he can huck fast tricks on the small stuff (he did some 1080 or 900 or something on a 10 ft tabletop). He also kills it on the rails (270 on 270 off, cleaaaaan) and throws big corks and rodeos on the tabletops.

My question is, is this legal?

are we talking about snowboarders right now? because if we are im not even so sure that its all about experence, i would say more like modivation. Becasue my friend thats been snwoboarding for only like 3 years and today he was throwing huge switch cork 5s and 270s off and 270s on, just because a few nights i was bugging him about not trying that much stuff anymore

Yeah theres kids like that over here in every sport. Theres little skiier kids who can throw 5s and yesterday i saw like a 10 year old boarder throw like a misty or smoething. theres also skater kids here that can like 3 on their skates over a damn barrel and crap like that. i think that people like that are on drugs its insane

 
I think a lot of it has to do with balls. I think that i would be capable of doing a lot more than i do, but i just dont have the balls to do it. I just think, is it worth killing myself for a nice ski trick, and if the answer is no, i usually dont do it. Some kids are just totally crazy and can push their limits.. Those are kids who turn pro and get awesome.

I saw someone do a 900 off the little learner step-up at SMS a while back. His skis never got more than a few feet off the ground. At the same time, some people were struggling to get around on a 360. That shit wasn't right.

 
I fully agree with cowboy on that, there's definitely a huge mental difference (or absence I don't know) between say Jon McMurray and the average skier like us who has fear and some sense of the potential pitfalls of attempting crazy shit.

yeah, cowboys right. i was skiing today and i was kinda in one of those moods when you feel really daredevelish, so there was this jump that launched me 11 about. so i deceided ill do a 3 over it. i have never ever pulled any spin on a jump that big. i nailed it, and i never knew i could do it. cause i never was brave(stuipid) enough to try it.

Exactly, its all about confidence, and another thing is comiting, you cant be going off the lip thinking, i gotta do this 5 smooth, the getting to 180, and thinking, nup cant do it, and end up at 270 thats part of having balls and confidence,

You can win a local comp just having balls though, but once you hit major comps, you gotta have balls, skills and style, and kids like that spinning shit dont have those three things.. it happens everywhere

i find the thing that pushes me the most is competition. not like actually comps, i just like dont like to get showed up. so i progress the most when im skiing with good skiiers because i hate to be less then the best. i think that mentality can be pretty dangerous though..
