People getting in the way.

Last year I had more close calls than all of my previous seasons combined. Most of these people are skiers/boarders on rentals who decide to have a picnic in the landing of the jumps or cut across a rail line without looking up hill. I had one incident last year where a little girl (Probably 5) decided to stop in the middle of the landing of the last jump right while I was coming off the kicker for a cork 7. Long story short I was able to stop and only managed to trip her with one ski. However her father having witnessed this (also a first timer) decided to come over and chew me out for a good 5 minutes to which I just walked away from. What close calls have you had? And how do you deal with angry parents or skiers after an incident?

Well this year (this was kinda my fault and kinda the other persons faults) anyway so I was following this kid down the hill and he flys off the cat track. I'm right behind him. So this 13 year old gaper girl dressed like a 90 year old grandma decides to ski towards takeoff of the cat track. So the kid before me goes off and the chick is still coming closer. I didn't feel like stopping so I kept going, launched off the cat, pulled a shifty (almost shifted her in the face) landed skied off, felt guilty, never saw her again.

It was a damn good shifty tjo

so im cruising down the backside of PCMR and this gaper snowboarder slams his nose into my boot, I was straightlining, probably my fault but still

fuck snowboarders they cant turn

Just typical gapers in the landing. Irrational parents will always yell at you because they have no clue that it wasn't your fault. You just gotta sit there and try and explain it to them.

Havent had a ton of close calls, but I have noticed, last season more than ever, rental skiers running their tips all the way up my topsheet to the back of my bindings in the lift lines. Everytime I turn around and feel like confronting the kids/gapers that run up on me, I just decide to be the better person.

Two years ago there was "snow cannon hills" you know when the snowcat haven't made anything of the snow yet. Either way we found a gap that you could jump across these hills. We did it many times. One time I looked up the hill didn't see anyone, but while in the air I could see how this little dude came under me. I did a shifty but still bonked his face. Neither of us fell, kid didn't even stop. Talked to his brother who said he got a small cut in his face. Moral of the story: When in need, you will master the shifti

Almost landed on a kid early last season. It was rather me yelling at the dad more. The gaper dad was nice, didn't really say much. Hopefully he understood the dangerous situation that appeared. Not all of them are douchebags

Last season this kid who looked like he was 13 went off the biggest kicker at Sunday River with his arms flailing all over the place while he was in the air. It was actually hilarious to watch, but anyways, I waited for a while to make sure it was safe to go. I came off the kicker switch just doing a venom grab and I landed on the kids ski pole which was right next to him. The kid was still in the landing, just laying in the snow with a full yard sale, both skis and poles. I completely ate shit and luckily I didn't land on him.

Dude, if you see someone deck it hard, go up and check to see if their ok and the landing is clear.

What and waste your lap? People should know that moving out of the landing is number one priority

It's one jump, it won't affect anything. What if the kid is injured with a broken leg or something and you come in and land on him? If you see someone fall and no one in the park checks to see if they're okay then the people riding the park are douches.

Yeah, I totally should have. That was a bad call on my part to assume it was clear but the kid was fine. I was just annoyed that he wasn't hurt and stayed in the landing so long. Thats a dangerous place to be, especially with a blind landing

You can't be serious right now

Well if the kid wasn't hurt he should move, that would annoy me too. But also as stated before if the kid was injured it would make the rest of us douches and he could get hurt more.

Last year at Big Boulder there was a little girl who stopped on the lip of a kicker and decided it would be cool to build a snow castle while here gaper dad looked on from the side.

I purposely carved into the jump and hand dragged her helmet as i launched off going mach 5. I was hoping the father would say something but he got the point and moved on.

A gaper family was standing in the middle of the takeoff onetime, so I skied up them to tell them it wasn't safe. Here is how the conversation went.

Me: hey guys, uh you're all in the middle of a jump line, I think it would be safer if you guys got to the side.

Gaper dad: not a chance were moving.

Me: well it will be safer for everyone if you do, plus you're clogging up the park.

Gaper dad: then they'll just have to wait we just wanna see our daughter come up the lift and take a picture of us

Me: yeah but someone is gonna comeby and hit you or your kids.

Gaper dad: well if they do I'm gonna kick their ass.

>bombing a trail

>random little girl skis into my path at the last second

there was this kid standing on the knuckle of one the jumps, he probably was 14 or 15, but i didnt see him and hucked a big ol 720, he didnt move out of the way and i was still spinning when i hit him, sliced his head clean off. it was fucking gnarly, so i just skied away.

At my mountain we have quite a steep rope in the park and I was riding up with a kid in front of me and he started sliding down, so i yelled at him to let go but he didn't hear me and then i decided to try to catch him and take him up with me but he had no idea what was going on and then i just ran him over. I said i was sorry later and that he should let go if he cant hold on next time. It was still pretty funny

At Alta under sugarloaf I was coming right next to the rope on the left side booking it straight ahead, headphones as loud as can be. Out of nowhere this kid comes and sticks one ski in between my legs and the other in front of my boots. I end up tumbling into the little left hand ditch. While I was falling my left ski came up and hit what I thought was a helmet. I got up and got my ski that came off. I was going to say something like be careful but the kid looked scared out of his mind so I for some reason apologized and moved on.

Judging by the story, the kid was probably hurt. That's what I got out of it at least and I'm sorry but I'd be more concerned with helping someone else who is hurt than wasting a lap.

One time i was just slowing down to get in the lift line when I hit a huge patch of ice and slid. At this point there was a probably 10 yr old girl there who saw me, but didn't move. I tried to swerve out of her way but clipped her boot with my ski. She was fine and wasn't pissed at all. Then her dad comes over, curses his brains out, and throws my pole at my face. I end up getting a ride home from the cops and my parents (against my will) decide not to press charges against him.

On this topic, nearly every shot of Delorme in "A Walk in the Park" involves him dodging boarders and jumpsuiters loitering around knuckles and landings

Witnessed my friend try to hand drag of a knuckle. Little girl was standing in the landing but was too short to see and she literally was drop kicked a solid 5 feet after taking the bases of my friends skis to the face. She was fine, but was with the race program, and despite sitting in the landing where nobody could see them the race coach still decided to chew us out for being disrespectful and not sharing the mountian

Stupid ignorant asshole

I hit a spine this winter and this gaper snowboarder comes underneath me in the air and I landed flat on top of him, no one was hurt so I asked if he was OK and told him to be more careful and skied off

I've been hit while raking a take off and knocked off the side of the knuckle. I've been run into a way too many times. I've had way too many people cut in front of me or be on the landing. I ran into some kid late 90's who decide to turn up the side and ski across the landing of a jump and dad was there to yell but I was with my older cousins and snowballs were thrown.

I've seen some pretty intense collisions.

Also those days where you're trying to get somewhere and you need to dodge a million people to get there and none of them can ski in a normal pattern.

once you crush someone you will realize:

have a spotter or

check the landing yourself or

hold your goddamn horses till you see them ski out.

i had a kid cut right in front of me on the lip for a rail and i ran right into him he fell of the lip to the right and i landed on the rail leaving a nice bruise on my chest. Cursed him the fuck out for cutting me off

last year this kid skied across the table as i was coming up to lip, i almost chopped his head off with my skis. hopefully him and cute scarf figured it out.

Same happened to me last winter. And its anoying because you feel bad, but the gaper doesn't understand the rule to claer the landing. You have to double check all the time. According to «rules» people atop are responsible to pass people downhill. But is this still applicable in a park? Ski patrol and managers should amend this rule when it comes to the park.

Back in the days remember when the ski patrol would close the snowpark to skiers and open only to snowboarders... There is always a misunderstanding when it come to freestylers, rulemakers and gapers.

Have a spotter: I have no friends

Check the landing yourself: How is that even possible?

Hold you goddamn horses till you see them ski out.: How would you know they ever skied in?

First day the pipe was open at Northstar a few years ago. Sweet, I'm gonna hit it, been waiting for it to open. about 1/4 in, I'm airing out and a little kid is BOOKING it down the middle. Kid gets on the wall as I start to rernter. I hit the lip with my thigh, ski pops off, and nearly hits the little kid. Ended up on crutches due to severe bruising. Little kid laughed because I fell.

Ive seen way too many people almost hit park crew at our mtn. or almost get domed by a rake trying to poach. Fuck people who poach a rail that is closed and in the process of being raked

Ive also been hit by a random gaper or two waiting to drop

Christmas at blue tomato kings park is terrible , all the gaper familys in the park and cutting you on your inrun :'(
