"people are awesome" is the scum of the earth and they need to be stopped

so the youtube channel "people are awesome" has been around for a while now, there content is just reposting other people's action sports clips and everytime I see one of their videos I become incredibly pissed off. about a fourth of the clips in their videos are user submitted the other three fourths are stolen from pro athletes or up and coming ones. one of there winter sports videos is almost completely comprised of clips from big athletes and not only do they give zero credit to them but instead they put there stupid water mark on the thing. I've seen everything from stuff like ragetti's quad cork too Tom Wallisch back to school edit (that's a official gopro edit for crying out loud). I know this post isn't gonna change anything but I just like to rant sometimes and then pass it off as raising awareness about and issue.

(edit) i was wrong about everything in this post apparently people are awesome pay athletes for there clips.

people are awesome pays everyone for their clips., they dont steal anything. How much they pay idk

People are Awesome (Jukin Media) is actually one of the few repost/compilation accounts that doesn't "steal" anything and licenses all their clips from the content owners. They will actually go out of their way to find the original filmer and make sure they have permission to use the clip, and they offer multiple means of compensation. I'm not a fan of their channels but they are pretty legit in this regard.

Source: I have been contacted by them for several of my clips

Yeah, they bought a clip from me of my buddy racking himself on a rail like six years ago. Think they paid $50. So yeah, repost accounts suck, People are Awesome sucks a lot less.

I agree with all of you, but sometimes these accounts help me find quality content producers when they do give credit, so I like that about them. For example, never would have found Eggxit without SkiCreative or something

Newschoolers IG and Facebook are just repost accounts of the shit that does well on here....

yeah but the difference is this the actual NS website is a place where the freeski community can thrive and grow. Companies are born on here, people get noticed/sponsored, find stoked homies to ski with etc. I see re-post accounts as feeding off of the community for their own gain while giving very little back

I've had several clips reposted by them, they used to pay a cash amount up front which was super awesome! I was so stoked on that. Now they switched to basically you sign over the rights to your video, and if it blows up and goes viral they will sell it on your behalf to other companies and give you a percentage of the profit. In theory, you could make a lot more money off this system, which is how they pitch it to you. But in reality it just keeps them from having to pay out cash unless your videos really really blows up. So most likely now you just end up signing your video ownership rights away and getting nothing in return. I used to send them over clips all the time hoping they'd want to buy them. Now I don't bother with the new system. One of my videos on the new system got over 1 million views on their facebook. And I got nothing in return....

to be fair, 1 million facebook views is like 10k views on youtube, facebook views are essentially worthless.

how come? why the big difference

Well take that exact number with a grain of salt. The point i was making tho is that FB counts a view basically every time someone scrolls over a video, the views have zero value and everyone knows it. YT view counts used to be very strict but now i think its like 30 sec counts as a view, while fb is like 2-3 seconds counts as a view.

In addition, on youtube to see a video someone has to click it, that means they at least have some degree of interest in it. On facebook, they're usually just mindlessly scrolling and might see it without any interest, so the views are less meaningful

gotcha thanks guys. yeah i knew you probably weren't being literal but i haven't been on facebook lately so i didn't think about how differently the videos operate there

True, I think it's at like 1.7 million now. But other videos of mine on the new system have been on their youtube and gotten several hundred thousand and I still get nothing. Sucks to get nothing now when before they'd give you $50-300 straight up

Im sure they pay like 50 bucks a clip at most. Even with the payments the idea behind people are awesome is cheezy as fuck.
