Penn State THON 2013

I know a thread gets made every year about this but it is well deserved.

If you havent heard about THON its a 46 hour dance marathon (where each organization is represented by 4-8 dancers who don't sleep/sit for the duration) that raises millions for pediatric cancer.

We have been working hard since the beginning of the year and we are now in the 26th hour out of 46 and our dancers are still going strong!

check out the live video of THON to check it out.
http://webcast.thon.psu.edu/

Its a rough 46 hours but still running on no sleep is worth it for the kids!

The THON overalls will announce the total amount raised around 4 tomorrow.. Check out the live stream!

Ive kept on seeing THON on FB and such and Ive always wondered what it was. It sounds like a crazy time and great cause.

Props to all the people that dance. Gotta suck ass to stand for two days straight, let alone dance.

People really flip dick over it though and I think the cause has unfortunately become very objectified to many people.

It's a good cause and everything, but my newsfeed blowing up on facebook by the 5 million people I know that went to/go to Penn State is annoying as hell.

Its great that you raise money for a good cause but the concept is fucking retarded. No one wants to dance for 2 days straight, let alone thats impossible. How do you go to the bathroom/ eat?

this is for such a good cause....put everything else aside that has happened with penn state....this is for innocent children and i am sure if you had cancer as a child you would love Penn State for raising so much money

I hate Ped State and I am not alone. School still refuses to take responsibility for the worst scandal in college sports history.

this.

I go to Penn State. I'm not affiliated with Thon at all. As someone who's been personally affected by cancer very recently, I do not even want to think or be related to anything about cancer yet. I can't stand some of the people that have a massive dick for Thon, ill admit. However, this is truly an amazing event for a cause that is so devastating to family's lives. If you can't realize that, then you dont have a heart.

I wish I had a filter to take your posts off this site. You are quite possibly the dumbest human being on this website. either that or an extremely successful troll

If you've ever been at or watched "Family Hour" on the webcast or at the BJC, I think you'd see that you're very, very wrong about it being objectified.

So proud to be a Penn Stater today. $12,374,034.46!

and i love how you all think about the psu scandal before even FUCKING thinking about what everyone is doing. Im not obsessed with it im just telling you about it. Raising $12.3 million for KIDS with cancer... (like 8 year olds who dont know if they are gonna live to the next THON) is pretty neat

-all hope is lost in NS

If you don't give a fuck don't open the thread. There is too much ignorance in here...

Thon is the largest student run philanthropy (organization to benefit others) in the world whose sole benefactor is the Four Diamonds Organization. Four Diamonds literally pays for everything for families at the Hershey Med Center who find out their child has any type of cancer. The announcement of 12million today was 2million more than last years total and brings the grand total to over 100million dollars raised. Four Diamonds is a growing organization because people spread the word through media like this. Fuck you for bringing up sandusky

you dont get it dude. the philanthropy is for a great cause and its cool you guys are able to raise so much money about it. BUT, the people at your school have a defensive sense of school pride that is fucking obnoxious (and sickening when it comes to Joe Paterno and the Sandusky scandal). people outside your school really dont care about this event, so the $12 million that was raised is overshadowed by the 12 million facebook posts that i see about this telling me how good they are for doing this.

an analogy for you that might be easier to understand... its like if you go to Africa to build houses for the poor, and the entire time you are taking pictures, posting status's on fb, and talking about how great it is, but not actually doing shit.

sure you should be proud of this event, but if you didnt do jack shit to contribute to this, we really dont care how much better your school is because it has the #1 student run philanthropy.

nah dude i get it... your jellly you didnt go on african safari??

i went to WVU not PSU. but i did grow up in Hershey right next to the Med Center and have seen it grow. my cousin is a nurse in the kids cancer unit there. i guess you could say i donate to Thon for selfish reasons

There are definitely kids who take it too seriously and feel really entitled. I personally feel THON was a great way for student body to come together and have some fun while raising 12 fucking mil for the kids with cancer. How could anyone hate on a event like this? Seriously who does it harm?

that's a shitty analogy because the people involved actually do something. better luck next time

and yeah the whole pride thing can get a bit too much but what the fuck do you mean when it comes to paterno and sandusky? no one defends sandusky but everyone defends paterno because he got fucked over by higher ups. that's fact, not an opinion. and how does the fucked up shit that one guy did suddenly become the description of every single person at penn state?

thought this thread was going to be about raping children. being from canada, i can honestly say that i have never heard of penn state in any other context
