May 1st (this wednesday) is the deadline for confirming. I really can't decide:Here are some pros/cons i can think of

Penn State:

-My brother goes there, so we would be on the same break schedule (allowing for skiing trips with the family)

-Closest to home (3.5 hours)

-Strongest geoscience program (i plan on majoring in geology/physics)

CU:

-Hotties

-Dope Skiing but long drives

-Good science program (Excellent physics department)

-super expensive

-Lots of outdoor activities to do

-expensive plane tickets to and from

UVM:

-scholarships lowered price down to low 30,000's

-super cold winters

-great east coast skiing very close by with great season pass prices (UVM FST!)

- girls are okay

- lots of freaks and hippies

-Lake champlain

-burlington

-bad science program

UConn:

-through scholarships would cost high 20,000's

-storrs is a joke

-basketball centered

-not a great science program

-nothing to do

NS help me decide please give some real insight if you have any to offer

(dont go to school somewhere because its going to be close to skiing or similar schedule to your family go because it has the right program you idiot)

Sounds like Penn state has the most "pros" compared to cons but I mean its up to you man, also if you visited each take into account how nice the school itself was, like the campus, but dont leave it up to a onlike ski community to tell you where to go to college, unless you want to, whatever college gets the most upvotes is where you'll go

UVM. If I didn't get such a great deal at my 2nd choice school I would've been there in a heart beat. Such a great school, community, and place to be.

That's probably my dream list of schools to go to. Unfortunately, they're all out of state for me and expensive as fuckkkkkkk. My sister went to Uconn and she loved it though.

youre a 12 year old that knows nothing about applying to or choosing a school. There is much much more that goes into picking where you are going to spend the next four years of your life then what school has the best academics. You idiot.

Yeah, i just decided about 15 min ago that UConn is now off my list... so now it's between PSU, CU, and UVM. i just really wished ivm had a better science program, then it would be a much easier decision.

yeah i go to penn state and am in the petroleum program and its like 8th in the nation I think, and I think its pretty good. going to italy to study geology with the geoscience department in 6 days so I guess I'll update you on how that is.

and I probably know your bro lol

it sounds like uconn should be thrown out because you didnt name any good posotives besides a good basketball school

In-state tuition to Penn State is dope.

That being said, if UConn's on the radar...come here! UConn's the shit. Aaaaand you say we don't have good sciences, but I'd argue that they're pretty damn good and that they're getting better. Way better. There's a bill in the state legislature right now that would give STEM programs at UConn 1.77 billion dollars of state money. Fuck yeah, right? When it's all said and done (and spent) it's supposed to boost UConn to top 10 public in the nation.

PM me if you have any questions. I'm an engineering student here, happy to help.

(BTW Storrs doesn't suck THAT bad. It gets rowdy and it's hella fun).

You should probably consider the whole getting raped in the bum thing for your penn state pro/con list...

I go to Penn State too...

Never realized how many NSers are here.

PM me if you have any questions, it's a pretty cool place.

honestly for math science stuff penn states the way to go. Im a sophmore in engineering here and even though skiing around here isnt to bad we make day trips on the weekends and its worth it for sure. I looked at most of the same schools you are and penn states a really sweet place. Let me know if you got any questions for sure man

come to arizona state its top 100 in the world and its paradise.....whats not to like?

uvm is pretty kewl

first time we've seen the sun since fall this weekend so everyone was just stoopin it all over town, good shit.

we get shitty concerts though...hope you like dubstep and jam bands

Fuck UConn., Ct is lame.

Penn St. is a great school and would have that near the top of my list.

CU, party school. Don't know much more about it.

UVM, very good school. Spring and fall on lake champlain are hard to beat. Near Stowe, Bolton, Sumggs, and a little bit of a drive from Killington. Btown is one of the best cities in the country IMO and their is always something going on their.

I'd say go with UVM, honestly. I would have gone but the price was TOO DAMN HIGH. Offers year round enjoyment and quality academics.

Obviously you haven't been to CU yet or else you would've seen a ton of hippies and freaks... For anyone that disagrees with that comment please walk down pearl street and then try to tell me that.

Plane tickets arent that expensive to Denver especially if you fly Southwest and you're near a big airport which being 3.5 hours away from Penn State i know you are.

And me being from the east coast i have to say going out west was the best decision i ever made.

Sounds like you don't know much about UVM. Super cold winters? Lol no. Okay girls? Again.... every school has good and "bad" girls. Hippies and freaks? Not really....

And to whoever said we just got the first sunshine since fall.... wut we've had lots of sunshine this year.

To OP, sounds like you should go to Penn. If I were going to go to school again, UVM wouldn't be my first choice.

This is why i love NS, the connections are soo dope. Anyways, i apologize for all of the biased points i previously made and I decided to put UConn back on my list.Still can't decide although i am going to try to by tonight. I am surprised by the lack of boulder support and by the big numbers of UConn supporters here. I am taking this all into consideration, you all are being more helpful then you know. I live in Maryland btw so psu would not be in state tuition. Keep the insight coming.

I have lived in state college my whole life, its a decent town and has a cool party scene if youre into that. however, theres a lot of asshole frat bros that lurk the streets. Also, the weathers pretty shitty. There seems to always be a shitty grey sky, especially in the winter. there is a shitty little mountain you can ski at called tussey mountain. it only has like 4 runs, but the park is up an coming for sure, lots of rail features.

UCONN has a skatepark, and nice spots. They have a tramp club, and you can tramp-skateboard......they have ski sundown a hour away, and you can usually catch a ride from someone if you pay gas. They take trips to Park City/mt.Snow/Killington. I don't go there but my big bro does.

my brother goes to penn state and i've visited many of times and love it. That being said, I go to CU Boulder and it is definitely different than psu and pennsylvania, but I have not regretted it one bit. The drives arent that bad especially if you get on the road early enough.. and getting up during the week is ideal

Im a freshman at Penn State for engineering. Penn State is a huge school, there is a large amount of greek life if you're in to that, plenty good looking girls, shitty weather, lots of people that ski that you could always bum a ride with.. Overall, Im a fan and would recommend coming here to pretty much anyone

I'd drive you to Mount Snow!!! It's 2.5 hours max, str8 up 91 to arguably the best park on the east coast.

Storrs doesn't suck and CT's not a joke. Don't let people tell you that. We're within reasonable distance to Boston and New York, the parties here are dope, we get good shows, the chicks are hot, and the nights get rowdy.

UCONN or UVM for sure man.

Im from connecticut but I go to school in PA. I have only been to penn state a couple times but, I would definitely pick Uconn over it anyday. There is always shit going on and plenty of cool people and parties, not to mention how good of a school it has become academically over the past few years. The state continues to give them more funding and the acceptance rate has decreased significantly. Ive heard the ski club is pretty cool as well.

Don't know much about UVM other than that it is in burlington which is cool as fuck and you are fairly close to Stowe, Jay, MRG, and Sugarbush which is definitely some of the best skiing in the east.

Speaking of this, a) today is lovely, and b) so are the ladies. dayum.

OP PM me or Bombo and we'll hook you up with UConn details if ya want 'em.

Thanks everyone, this is really helpful, i still haven't decided but my parents aren't letting me go to boulder anymore because of the distance which sucks, but 'i have to make up my mind by tonight. I really can't decide i am really thinking that i'll just pick a name out of a hat at this point haha

UCONN is also near Hartford for skating. Just ask for a ride....theres a ski and snowboard club so if you join just ask and see who's going.

I chose Vermont. Very excited, but I really did appreciate everyone who took time to pm me or post on this thread to help me deice, it was a really tough decision. I was very close to choosing UConn and PSU until UVM threw me another 5k at the last second. Thanks.
