Those attention whores over at whistler blackcomb are webcasting the opening tomorrow at 1030... what's in store? I've heard mumbling about fighter jet flybys and redbull athletes?

I heard jonny Mosely is going to jib the tram cable down to the middle/low point and then kick off his skis, catch them, base jump, put his skis back on, spin a 3600, cut his chute, combo into the ziptrek cable, slide that, and then the P2P will be officially open. Meanwhile Gordon Campbell willl be watching/drinking from the tram with the glass bottom floor. Watch out for him later on, on the sea to sky.

sounds like something right out of SSX.

shane mckonkey is gonna based jump off it. he did it last weekend as a test. but who cares. its a giant ugly spectacle of the debt that fortress is in.

you are one smart girl?

how did i ever come to date you?

its true.

lame.

but this also means no more uploading on blackcomb FUCK YEAH

60 million dollars to put in a ugly ass gondola across a fucking valley. come on. fuck that, it doesnt open any new terrain. they could of put a street to peak gondola on both mountains, or they could put like 4 new lifts that would open so much more terrain, or replace some of the shitty ass old triples(catskinner) with new quads.. big waste of money. fuck the peak to peak. i dont care how fast ill be able to get to the other mountain. i find it more fun to ski all the way down.

just my opinion.

^yup i agree its fun just to ski all the way down and upload. but all the gondi is, is just a big tourist attraction in the heart of tourist land

Man all this whistler/blackcomb video stuff is nauseating. Just jump out of the fucking gondola, that's all I came here to see!

Any pictures looking through the glass floor?

I agree that the money could have been better spent, it's nothing but a tourist attraction.

If you're staying in creekside or parking in creekside it's probably worth it. Say you wanna ride some pow in some trees on whistler when you go up because it's quicker to go up creekside. But maybe the snow isn't as good as you thought and you wanna ski pipe or some park. Now it's possible. It does seem like just a huge tourist thing, but it can have its benefits still.
What happened by the way? Shane base jump?

although it does some have value has a tourist attraction, long term it should have value in getting people back and forth at the alpine level. This will be valuable when the only time skiing down will be possible will be for a few dim weeks in late December, January and early February. Ci mate change is clearly happening, and although we won't lose winter altogether, we can certainly expect it to become shorter, especially at the valley's elevation. Downloading from mid-station to have to upload from the bottom to simply change mountains makes the peak to peak worth while. In fact, its conceivable that in the future they would want (or even have) to keep the entire ski resort operation above 1000 meters, making for multiple peak to peaks all the way up the fitzsimon valley, connecting, say, Flute with Dekker. Ok maybe its not that extreme, but you get my point.

Weather wasn't too good so they didn't do anything cool for the opening. I rode it to Blackcomb to hit the park. There are a couple good rails one small step down and a fun right side hip. The snow is falling and it is still coming down. I am stoked to be able to go from mountain to mountain. The peak to peak is a nice way to travel. If this doesn't make since it is because the Kokanee is flowing like wine.

Peace,
