"Imagine what could have been. Never before or since has one person held an influence on so many people to move toward peace and all that it means." - 'Dec 8th 1980' The Rebel Spell.

Yoko Ono sends a letter to the prison Mark Chapman's at asking to deny him parole. She's done so 6 times over the past 30 years, even after Chapman formally apologized and cried about being a brainwashed little jesus freak and fucking up so hard. He hasn't had an infraction in 12 years and he reads all day. I think the guy deserves another chance at life.

IMO crying about it and saying your sorry doesn't detract from the fact he killed someone. Screw second chances - where's Lennon's?

Also I really like how this is up on NS - John Lennon was one of the those people who could be described as a true artist and, whether you not you agreed with his opinions or his methods of promoting them, he believed completely in what he stood for and tried his hardest to do the best he could.

he shot a man who presented no risk to anyone in the back, what was it? 4 times? That's some cold blooded killing.

No, i think he can stay in prison.

The world lost a great musician that day.

I'm wondering would John Lennon himself want his killer to go free, and I can't really decide. But if we could somehow know I reckon that would be the best way to judge it.

R.I.P John Lennon.

also im sure a million other murderers have cried and preached their conversion to good. Jail does that to people.

i disagree because i think that music is the most powerful way to send a message to the public. yeah Ghandi and King probably did more physical work for peace, but as far as promoting it goes, lennon is up there with the top.

The peace John Lennon speaks of can never be achieved. "Give peace a chance" is a cheap phrase and nothing more. Regardless, it sucks John Lennon had to go out the way he did.

Well people get out before 30 years that have killed people all the time. I just think that the penalties for killing somebody should be harsh. Not just because he killed lennon but it should extend to anyone who kills someone. Let him out in 10 more

kill the phonies! its sucks that he was killed. but when he left the beatles he was a chump .. i said it . john lennon was a fucking chump. imagine if you had never met that dumb bitch.

this hasnt been brought up but there could be political motifs for killing Lennon. he had many problems with the US government, had been turned back at the boarder before, and had countless false accusations against him. while the killer none the less did something wrong, he could have sided with the government and did something that the government would not do as it would upset the public. Many government officials had a strong dislike of Lennon, and the ideas that he gave the public (anti-war, freedoms, ect.) and now the government is holding the killer in prison for doing something that helped them for an unjust period of time. Due to Lennon's ideas on peace, i think that he would have wanted the killer to be released, after serving a reasonable sentence.

Does not change the fact that we lost possible the greatest musician public figure ever that day. RIP John Lennon and vibes to Paul Lennon (His son. i think his name is paul)

no way. no how. never gonna happen. Fuck that delusional motherfucker. There is no reason for his release. now spout some bull man. Mark Chapmen is a delusion wackjob who made himself after the kid from Catcher and the Rye. he lived out his life that way. f him

Sean*, but yeah.
As soon as I saw the date in today's paper, it just hit me. John, and the Beatles, truly changed music. Some of John's work I have been listening to a lot today:

RIP John

Oh I guess we should let him go if he "formally apologized." How can you honestly believe that someone who is mentally unstable and pre-meditatively murdered someone should be released? You don't call murder a "fuck up." He does not deserve a second chance at life, he is a terrible person who has only brought negativity to this world. Yoko Ono is not my favorite person either, but she has every right to make sure that this fucking retard is never released.
people like that should never be released.

John Lennon was amazing. I wish i would have been alive when he was playing music!
Last spring i made a trip to Europe for some time and happened to go see the John Lennon wall (filled with lots of John Lennon inspired lyrics) in Prague, Czech Republic.Although it has been "grafted" over many times it was still Pretty cool to see.The story behind it is kind of interesting, Really puts things into perspective as to what it would have been like to have grown up in a communist country..

Formally apologized after 30 years in prison and showed remorse. He was brainwashed. Should we hold it against him forever, or move on and give him another chance?

Eh. Not really a beatles fan at all to tell you the truth. They don't really cut it for me. But lennon is a good guy so heres to him and his life. May he rest in peace.

We should never let murderers out of prison. That's the big one, there's no going back. Maybeeeeeee if we could revive dead people to a zombie like state some forgiveness might be ok, like 1 year out of prison every 15. But until then, it's a crime of absolute consequence.

there is no excuse for what he did, he killed a legend, and if he was let out of prison im pretty sure someone would kill him and the world would punish them too, but others would rejoice at his death. Mark Chapmen is and was delusional. He has no access to anger management or other treatment in the facility is incarcerated in, that may be on purpose, but without that treatment he shouldnt be let out.

This is dumb... honestly, the guy was a weirdo that MURDERED someone. anyone that MURDERS someone should be in jail forever... i went 98 mph and got pulled over and got a ticket... i felt bad and showed remore to the cop, but guess what?!?! i had to go to court and pay the consequences... life is full of choices and you have to think about what will happen in each step... so the answer is Yes it should be held against the freak forever.
