PE or foils?

i am a 50% bc and 50% park and pipe rider! i heard that the foils will crack the edges pretty fast on rails, but that they are much better in pow and carving!

and i heard that the PE are heavy and does not pop very vell! i am about 1,70 m high and weigh's about 60 kg, so what do you think i should get?

Go for the PE - stronger edges and overall the skis last longer. Though the Foils are cheap right now...

i dont know alot about the foil but i own PE and love them...ar the start they are stiff but now i love them very mutch ...i do alot of rails and my edges are very good...only 1 cracked edge...

they are very solid and they pop very well...for bc they are very good and for jumps rails and pipe too

my choise would be the pe

i jsut got the PEs. damn nice ski for almost everything. and as for foam cores i had teneighties last year and theyre dead now, but i ski almost everyday

having personally used both these skis for a season, there's no comparison. the foils have way more pop in the pipe, hold up much better on rails, and rip through pow. the main difference between the skis is that the pe's have sidewall edges whereas the foils' are capped. that having been said, don't let anyone tell you one is better than the other, performance wise, because there's probably about 5 people in the world that can tell the difference between sidewall and cap when out on the hill. sidewall skis tend to get major topsheet chipping around the sides, so if you're going sidewall, expect your skis to look like they've been beaten to shit after a few uses. if you can get a ski that uses a rubbery sidewall (i can't remember what it's called), like in 4frnts, as opposed to traditional ABS plastic, it might help prevent that chipping and edge damage. the main reason people go for sidewall skis is because they have this extra layer of material in the edge, it improves its torsional stability which results in better edge hold when carving (which is why most world cup race skis are sidewall, with the exception of atomic.. which proves that there's such a minor difference anyways). if you notice, there seems to be a trend that most cheaper skis are capped and the most upper-class skis are sidewall, but again, it'll be such a minor difference that it shouldn't even matter. we're not pro racers here anyways, just kids out to have a good time.

all i can do is say that, from experience, the foil is a real smooth ski, and all this crap about 'omg foam core, whaaaa whaaaaaaaa' is BS. maybe in the past salomon had some problems with their 1080s, but foam is the future my friend. it's easy to manufacture, and relatively inexpensive. salomon seems to always be one step ahead than everyone else in that they're trying out new things. whether they work perfectly is a different story, but i respect the fact that they take their products in a different direction, and try to build off of that step, especially with their new SPK boot coming out for next season. who know, maybe it'll be the best boot out there, maybe it'll be terrible, but salomon always seems to be on to something.

so yeah, back to the skis.. another thing i've noticed is that the pe's are terrible on rails. they just don't want to lock on the rail and slide smooth. even after filing my edges down to nothing and keeping the bases freshly waxed, they were extremely inconsistent.

go for the foils. you wont be disappointed.

sorry for the rant bro.. but sometimes i just get really into these threads. as for salomon being one step up on everyone else, that's just my personal opinion, so don't take it for fact.

cheers

you basicly just convinced me to get foils. my troubles of what ski to get are over.

you would be a good salesmen

Get the PEs if your a good skiers, if the foils are anything like the old pocket rockets you'll thank me. The sidewall doesnt really effect the way a ski skis, but rather just construction of the ski and wear and tear. You can delam a capped ski easier than a sidewall, but you might have a blowout on a sidewall. A sidewall will hold up better in my experience, and the construction seems to be more solid. as for other reasons, the PE's are fuckin sick as shit now that they have the 85 waist, you dont want a super fat ski for everything, though it might hold up a little better in the pow, the PE will still rip your mother. get the 179s.

that's not the reason i know skis though. i know them because i research them because i love them!! (and the fact that i see a billion pairs of skis pretty much every day doesn't hurt)

why do you say that? have you ever used EITHER of the skis? stupid son of a bitch.. maybe provide a little bit of info on why you think one might be better than the other you goddamn nipple lump

PE edges crack fast man, i and my friend have public enmies, topsheet chips like a mother and the edges just dont hold up, performance wise though public enemies are sicko

as much as i hate salomon, i think they have made a good product when it comes to the foil, i havent skiied it but i havent heard many bad things

if i were you though, skiing half the tome out of the park id get the old sethy pistols on ebay for cheap

thanks guys! and thanks anathema!

yesterday i was going to buy the PE's, but it was some trouble with the shopping. so we waited for today, and that seemed like a good choice, cause now i really want the foils! but how soft are they compared to ar5's?

thanks again guys!!
