You'll have some trouble with BC2, i've got...
Q6600 Quad core @ 3.2 ghz8800gt4gb DDR3 1333Gigabyte EP45T-UD3P mobo
and i have some trouble with bad company 2

I hope that I can just tone down the visual aspect of the game and play it atleast over 60 fps. I play mw2 on low settings for hight frame rate and other reasons. A nice looking game is sweet but I care about gameplay more.

yea you might be able to, but you'll want your settings at at least high in order to get the destructible environments, any lower and they don't work.

I play mw2 on a Dell inspiron 9300 laptop. I have to play at 640 x 480, or I get blue screen of death. But it's still fun.

We have very similar systems zomg! your processer is better than mine though, I've got the q9300 @ 2.75 ghz.

I've been thinking of replacing my 8800gt for a while now, its a good card, but starting to show its age.

Why dont we just make a steam group/join the one that exists with one member (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/newschoolers)

I really want to get back into PC gaming but its just too damn expensive... i cant afford a laptop and a desktop. shit sucks.

$500? abot 4 years ago when i built my computer

OS:XP PRO

CPU:quad core 2.6

Memory:2GB

Hard Drive:250GB

Video Card:8800gts 640mb

Sound Card:steel 5H v2

Headphones:steel 5H v2

Monitor:NEC 19" 2ms

Mouse:g5 weight at 6.8g

Mousepad:steel QcK+

Keyboard:steel 6g

that was nearly $1,800 from newegg.com

but my mobo was a beast and everything was nearly top of th eline at that time, it's amazing that if i look at all that stuff now i can probably rebuild the exact same thing for the price of my Graphics Card + Case back when i bought them at their starting price.

technology advances wayyy too fast it's hard to keep up

your best bet when building a budget rig is to buy a few parts at a time (pace yourself i guess), look for hot deals on newegg and tigerdirect (barebones kits are usually a good deal).

there are some decently priced gaming laptops out there too (MSI is a good value brand,I almost got this for school: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152159&cm_re=MSI-_-34-152-159-_-Product but went with a lenovo which was better suited for doing work)

oh, and my steam ID is "TheZu"

The thing is in a few years whatever PC i get will go from being able to play the newest games on max, to barely being able to run things on low/medium.

Its just not worth it IMO... especially with a laptop where you cant replace parts.

pc gaming certainly isn't for the frugal, but a well thought out rig should be able to last you for 3-4 years. one must also realize that older games on the PC are played forever (starcraft, WC3, HL2, WoW[bleh], etc...). you don't HAVE to play the newest games on your PC..

Oh i know... id be happy playing CoD2 and CS:S to be honest... although when a dope new game comes out in 4 years and i can barely run it it'll be kinda annoying.

it's not that bad for what you get in the end. I built my system about 2 years ago and I'm about ready to dump $450 into it and it will still out run a lot of new higher end machines. You just have to do some research and build it so that it will adapt to new tech as it comes out.
