Patent

I think that i have a patent worthy idea for ski design. A way to work with the edges to have a ski that never rail sticks, but perform extremely similar to the way a regular ski rides. Does anyone know just about how much a patent costs or what the process is like?

After i run the math on the process i am thinking and if it doesnt work out ill share my failed idea. But until then i just want to know anything about patents for this sort of thing

agreed, but i dont. I may try to make a ski useing this design first to see if it is possible. If that seems to costly i may just take the risk and go for it. I really dont see a downside to my idea so who knows

i feel like it would be hard to patent an idea without a physical representation of it. build a press and try it out!

I'll start with this.. (Although not a patent lawyer.. I have experience in writing non-disclosure agreements and with investigating patent viability and the patent process).

You need to sell your idea to a ski company. You will have to have them sign a non-disclosure agreement (privacy agreement) with you.. otherwise they might run with it. I wouldn't waste money trying to turn a prototype... thats rediculous and a common pit fall of inventors. You need to talk with someone who knows ski design, knows about metallurgy and most importantly can simply tell you if your idea will work.

Also, it sucks to get all these thoughts of riches and the good life off an idea like this. The inventor of an idea that becomes successful usually only sees on average 3-5% of the final profit from selling it to said ski company, which wouldn't end up being a whole lot.

Why? b/c is there really a need for it? Edges that don't stick to rails? (am I right?) My edges only stick if the rail is a little rusty.. or my edges are new and sharp. Once dulled they don't really stick. So.. how many ski companies would implement your idea on their skis/ski model?

I lost my train of thought. Hope it helps some.. if you have other questions PM me.
