true. but a dem was elected in new york in a super conservative district as well.

conservatives are facing the problem of "true conservatives" vs middle of the road fellows, where they split the vote and the dem ends up walking away with the win.

incumbents in general are in trouble, people are sick of whoever they have in office right now, red or blue.
 
I'd be happy if we got rid of the fundamental christian sect of the conservative movement...I think a lot of the tea party candidates can be hailed as true conservatives in the sense that most of them aren't zealots. But then you get into how to classify people who are conservative are pro choice and pro marriage. Libertarians maybe, but Libertarians scare the shit out of people on the left and the right.
 
at least libertarians are consistent. i dont necessarily agree with their politics, but unlike most republicans its not "small govt when its convenient" its "small govt, period".
 
actually that is a great point. Government expansion doesn't sit well with me in any situation...I wasn't a big Bush fan for that reason. It's hard being a hardcore libertarian though because in some cases it is probably necessary for temporary govt expansion. keyword there is temporary though haha, if that is even possible anymore. The only instance I can think of at the moment is the transition from John Adams to Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson cut soooo many govt jobs and programs that had built up under Washington and Adams.
