Pass pulled, fuck vail

got my pass pulled tonight by some asshole higher up that saw me duck a rope to get out of the park and catch up with my friends. 9pm on a wednesday night, not a person in sight, i’m not ducking a boundary rope; i don’t see how that justifies pulling my pass. genuinely didn’t know ducking a rope was such a big deal.

dude told me if i did it again he’d pull it, fast forward 5 minutes at the bottom of the lift and he walks over with a scanner, scans me, and says i’m banned for the rest of the season. i go try to find an employee to help me figure it out, walk out of the lodge, and 4 security guys walk over to me with the higher up and my pass is taken and i’m “escorted off the premises”. fucking mind blowing. dumb mistake now that i know how anal they are about it, but no reason to pull my pass on my first offense

you mean the rope separating the park from the rest of the trail? or a closed trail? either way you didn't deserve that.

although i do feel like a little bit of the story is being left out... how did you act at the first encounter? in any case... security? bruh. fuck vail.
 
I tried to duck under the park rope once and got clotheslined by my lip. But getting your pass pulled for the season is insane for that

Well apparently there was because you got caught ducking the rope, you dumb piece of shit. You have no one to blame but yourself for getting caught.
 
This sounds like an "I was just riding along and my frame cracked" kind of situation. There's got to be more to the story.

i cussed him out after he walked over and scanned my pass cause he basically talked straight out of his ass saying if i “did it again” he’d pull it. but that’s legitimately the only part i left out. other than that, everything else is there.

And boom goes the dynamite. People don't get it. Even if you're right, or you think they're overreacting. Be chill. Say your sorry, you were trying to go over to your friend and weren't thinking. Cussing them out is never going to help. Especially if he's scanning your pass. Big overreach to pull your pass if that's all that went down, but you certainly didn't do yourself any favors. This thread happens multiple times a year.

To anyone out there who doesn't get this, either ski the fuck away and leave, or be chill. Being a dick will get you nowhere.

Damn. I can prolly throw you a pass for Crystal towards a day getting out there. Don't get them free anymore, they're $25 but not bad for a day on the hill.

Def sucks to be out a pass over some heated shit in the moment. Would definitely try to talk to them. Be fucking cool though. Yelling isn't going to help. Im the future either ski to the lot and dip, or appologize and take it if they're yelling at you. Even if the guy doesn't seem like he could ski down a blue trail. Regarding ropelines some people don't respect them at all, maybe was just overreacting from other shit, maybe a volunteer patrol. Who knows. But yeah, hindsight is 420 but never helps to be a dick even if they deserve it.

no i get that. it was my first time having anything like this happen, but i definitely could’ve made it better on my part. in my mind i guess by the time he came over to scan me i figured i was already fucked, despite him giving me a supposed warning, so that just set me off

This is pretty much the equivalent of getting pulled over for going 3 over. Is it bullshit? Yes...are you technically in the wrong? Yes. Is it okay to be confused/a little heated? Yes......but then the cop comes up to your window and says "oh just a warning don't let me see you speeding on this road again" and you decide the best course of action is to curse him out. LMAO. You ain't going to win and you just upgraded yourself to a ticket. Use your brain man

i don’t know if people are misunderstanding the order of events, but like i said in an earlier reply, i cussed him out after he came to scan my pass and tell me i’m banned. prior to that, i didn’t say a word to him, just simply nodded my head and said alright when he came to stop me right outside of the park. had i cussed him out before he scanned me, that would be a different story and i would completely understand everyone else’s input.

also, not that it matters all that much, but he was dressed like a normal skier; there was no indication whatsoever that he was an employee. when he first stopped me i genuinely thought he was just some random dad that was a stickler about rules and wanted to tell me off. i say this completely honestly, i would’ve treated the situation quite a bit differently had i known he was an employee and dressed in their gear

Ah. The way you worded it was definitely the opposite. My point still stands.

Do you know how you get out of a 3mph speeding ticket in court? You don't curse out the cop. You show up, say your honor, obviously I was speeding but by a ridiculously small amount...I was respectful and understand that this was a mistake, however due to the severity I am asking you drop the ticket. Boom. Done.

if the cop shows up and has body cam footage of you cursing and yelling at him, guess what....you've still got that ticket.

same exact thing with vail man. You know how quick you could have gotten your pass back if you hadn't blown up at him? Show up next weekend, explain the situation, say how respectful you were and that the mistake obviously wont happen again. Say how he wasn't in uniform and you had no idea who he was or that he had a position of authority. Youre skiing later that morning. Hell, if the guy was doing what you said he almost definitely has a reputation as an ass around the resort. They'll know the sitch and they're probably used to it by now.

but now you are in the position where he got screamed at, probably has been bad mouthing you at the office, and has even more reason to not give your pass back. You were already in a grave and decided to grab a shovel.

I am absolutely not defending vail or their yellowjackets....fuck em both. yellows are mostly powertripping assholes. But sometimes it's better to play the game. Next time either keep skiing to your car and call it a day before you get scanned (this is the best call, they wont follow you 99.9% of time), or just play the game.

Damn didn't know you could get it pulled for ducking out of the park. I don't really understand that logic. My experience is that if you have a bad run in with ski patrol and you know it's their fault, just go home or change clothes at your car. Never let them check your pass.
 
i had my epic pass pulled in 2014 but was able to get it back after attending their “safety saturday” and ended up being a two week suspension. my situation was worse than yours, except i consistently held a high level of apparent sincerity
 
Ask for forgiveness and bring them a pie. If they let you do a stupid "safety" class a and a small suspension do it. If they don't, throw the pie in their face and film it. Try and parlay that toward some comps or donations toward a new pass. Yolo.

This seems like the only option currently. Not sure what kind of pie though. Also is stabbing security a crime in WA these days? Google it in case it comes to that. Actually maybe don't google it.

Don't disrespect your Vail elders. Vail is a very good corporation with very good staff. You are very bad, probably one of those evil park kids who yell at me for sitting on the nice benches they put in the middle of the trail.
 
Back in the day i got my pass pulled for going into keystones tiny park at 3:35 and it closed at 3:30. I was lappin A51 and i had to go to my first day of the semester so i was gonna not hit anything and go. They pulled my pass for 4 weeks. So i called corporate and explained i was sorry and it was a misunderstanding and they had me take a class and i was skiing that weekend. Even took this photo with the mountain safety guy who suspended my pass on that weekend lol.
