Hey all - whats up. I'm putting together a concept for next year called ParkTV.com, and am interested in getting some feedback from the newschool ski community. The idea is in its infancy but I would appreciate if poeple would have a look and either post in the forums on www.parkTV.com or get back to me here.

I think this idea could really work well, but if I'm to progress it forward then I need input, if you feel that you have any valid ideas or suggestions, please let me know. If you wished to be involved, again let me know. So check it out, and remember this is only the beginning.

Thanks

Ben

whats the concept?

---------------------------

THE POWER IS YOURS

Our world is in peril. Gaia, the Spirit of the Earth, can no longer stand the terrible destruction plagueing our planet. She sends five magic rings to five special young people: Kwame, from Africa, with the power of Earth. From North America, Wheeler, with the power of Fire. From Eastern Europe, Linka, with the power of Wind. From Asia, Gi, with the power of Water. And from South America, Ma-Ti, with the power of Heart. When the five powers combine, they summon Earth's greatest champion, Captain Planet!

OK with out being rude and sarcastic - could you at least have made the effort to check out www.parktv.com before you go and post. Its explained there - Check out the site. www.parkTV.com

Thanks

okay now that i read it, i like the concept..but if its only going to be available in Blackcombe, and Whistler..then why should any1 from the US support this idea if its only going to be shown locally? If you can get this idea onto a channel in the US, shit..i'd watch that stuff every damn week.

dude....you should definatley either ask e-mail resorts and ask them if they have anyone on their crew that would like to do that......or just get a newschooler to film at their parks....so there are alot of new videos each week

'Heath Ordway Gets Head, Do You' - Head Skis Ad

sounds like a good concept...i thought about mounting a tree cam lookin at the pipe and another in the park and have channel 6 (local channel) to play live feed from the hill so you can wake up and check out the park to see if its goin off. You can set your vcr on record and go rip the pipe...then you got all your footy...

But anyways it sounds like a good idea, i dont know how youd cover your expenses seeing as it would take a lot of time and effort just to sell a few vids each week

'Can we discuss this further in the privacy of my hot tub?' Mitts to some chick who shot him down outside garfs...

dude, that is a super money idea. Nothing better than a highlight film of the day. Plus, it gives people who might be a the park a chance to see what they look like. I know I never film myself and it would be sweet to do something like that. Good luck, you got my support

'Yeah, I'll get that cleaned up lickity-split. Speaking of lickity-split what do you say you and I meet up later, see what's going on? Just kidding. But seriously, I'm new in town, kinda lonely, looking for my parents..'

seems like a good idea but doesnt help me in the east at out, ya u should like make the vid then put it on the internet too

whos in da house, SACA is in the house!!! hahahahmuhahahah

haha dude thats not the best idea ever ur gonna get swamped with work and itll be a huge pain in the ass

Fairydust3224: its not good for you

npublic enemy900: dont get me started on this shit u have a better chance getting raped by a car than fucking urself cause i smoked

OK - everyone here seems to have the impression that I haven't really thought this idea through - well although I agree it would entail work - there is definitely a solid revenue model. I'm not going to be simply giving away this footage.

Thanks for the input and keep it coming.

sounds like an awesome idea. like NH said, what about us east coasters, we've got sick riders, what if we sent in footy? OR you could have like guest appearances by certain crews, ooooo a weekend in whistler....... wet dreams my friend wet dreams.

but on a more serious note, i definately would back your idea.

yah Ben... I think there was a post a while ago about crew battles. It might be an idea to somehow incoperate that. It might work, making rivalries, and really helping people progress - Similar to comps, but a bit different. Ski film companies must have some sort of rivalries on whos got the best footage, but that only comes out once a year - and thats really a battle between the companies ( I think the skiers are more stoked on each others footage, more than they are rivaled by it). If you could have local, and even international crews, battling on a weekly basis, well that would just be sick. BUt yah, your original concept is really sick too. And it might also be a good idea to post some of the footage on the internet, but you would then loose a bit of profit. Maybe try to hook it up in the east with soemone responsible from this site?... I don't know, all just ideas... good luck and keep up the good work

IBMeUBU didnt you have a concept liek this with sharing a camera cuz you didnt have your own a while backthat didnt work?

will it just be riding or will there be other features, because the skiing/snowboarding will begin to become repetitive after a while. so will you add in music, interviews/profiles, trick/bail of the week, etc.

Sounds sick. i would def like to ski for you.

IDEA

The idea is simple, to film the Blackcomb Park on a daily basis, capturing skiers and boarders rip in the park. Filmin for several hours a day, every day that weather permits. Then edit and show the film on a weekly basis throughout Whistler nightspots. These movies would be known as ParkTV

ParkTV

The concept is to film the Blackcomb Terrain Park for several hours each day shooting everything using digital video. With a weeks worth of footage, compile the best footage (whether it be jumps, slams, rails or anything else that goes on in the park) and make a short film of approx 30min. Edited to give an exciting professional review of the best and worst of the action in the park from the week.

The movies known as ParkTV would then be shown in nightspots through out Whistler and Blackcomb. Most bars currently have TVs and show ski and snowboard videos though out the day and evening. The standard ski/snowboard films although impressive, are repetitive, and anonymous. They are shown over and over again through out the season. With the ParkTV concept, the footage would be relevant to the locals and tourists alike, and of course continually different. With footage being shot weekly and edited then and there, riders could ride the park during the week and get to see themselves on TV on the weekends. Park riders are notorious show offs. This way every one gets to be a ski movie hero.

This concept has been successfull in New Zealand, where the local film night is by far and away the biggest night of the week for the local bars. In transferring this idea to Whistler it opens up a fantastic opportunity for more great ski action and a larger audience.

Many pros call Whistler Blackcomb their home and train there though out the season. The standard of riding is exceptionally high and, with both the pipe and park being rated in the top two in North America, the terrain is unrivaled with progressive features and big hits. These factors make Whistler Blackcomb a fantastic environment for filming and a great location for ParkTV.

i hate posers. thanx to harvey and all who contribute to the site for makin it so kick ass. the world is my very own pot party.

I'm not just giving it away... welll, you just lost about 95% of the people who were interested, cause well, I don't give a shti about whistler, I don't live anywhere near it, and I don't see the pooint of wasting my money to see it. I doubt if ANYONE would. Mabye a few locals, or a few rich kids, but really no one would pay to see it.

NOW, if you had people submit videos from all over, you may be able to get some $$, but still doubtful. I think you're just trying to make some easy dinero, and well, since that's the case, I hope you fail.

Sorry for being so blunt about it, but the idea sucks. There are tons of other FREE places to see tons of footy, from everywhere (SASfilms, Skiingmotion, NS), so seriously, why would anyone waste their money? think abotu this, and you'll realize it's a horrible concept.

Well Pat thanks for your well put together reply, completely negative but I guess everyone is entitled to thier opinion. I'm not sure how you've come to the conclusion that I simply want to make an easy buck, in truth I'm not sure you've really understood the concept. I do agree that it may not be relevant to a large percentage of people on this site, but thie site does serve as the main newschool community out there and a substantial number of people online have skied whistler or will ski whistler next winter.

It appears that I have may have been a bit quick to reply in the previous post - concerning 'I'm not simply giving away the footage' and I grant you that it sounds a little negative but that was not the intention. I do not expect skiers and boarders to pay for the footage, in fact that is not mentioned anywhere, I do however beleive that nightspots in Whistler may have an interest in showing this footage and therefore paying a small fee to be supplied with up to date local and relevant video footage. Skier and boarders alike would get the opportunity to see cool film footage of themselves in bars with thier friends, if you simply think this is a horrible idea - then fine, however I think if this concept was offered at your local hill, alot of park riders might have an interst.

Again thanks everyone for posting.

''The standard ski/snowboard films although impressive, are repetitive, and anonymous''

How would seeing the same location and same people ride the same park, filmed the same way each week differ from the idea above?

if your gonna do it, post that stuff as a high quality trailer type download each week..altho 30 minute movie could take a longass time to download..so its still a sketchy idea for any of us in the US not within local cable range of Whistler.

if you expand to more places than just whistler/blackcomb, it would be a worthwhile cause, but i somehow doubt that all your time and effort in the park only to show the footage locally will turn out in your favour. good luck though.

i did something like this 23 years ago. i made 2 videos the first 2 weeks of the season then i was over it

wow i just looked at the length of cj's post and said hell no to reading that shit and now im leaving this thread right away in worry of losing 2 minutes of my life

whos in da house, SACA is in the house!!! hahahahmuhahahah

make it more of a tv show, where you show maybe 1 crew one week, interview them and let them talk all about there crew, then you can have another crew another week, then like interview specials where it is just one person and interview them, and maybe always end the show with a few minutes of footage from the park from that week

ya mckeeman had a sick idea, it'd be cool to hit record and then come home to your footy, although it might be not so great if there were like two stationed cams..
