Parks in CNY?

I'm probably going to Elmira for school next year and I'm just wondering what the skiing in CNY is like? ie who has the best park and what not.

elmira is a pretty decent hike from togg, or any of the 3 ski areas around syracuse for that matter, greek peak however would be the closest. Greek is the largest area, most terrain and what not. And though my opinion may be slightly biased, Togg is the place to be for park. There are some pictures up at www.skitog.com, just go to the terrain park link and then check out the gallery. There is also an up to date list of features in the Park Updates link. From Elmira the trip would be a little over an hour, but i would recommend checking it out nonetheless.

ha that drive is perfectly fine with me i'm used to having to drive a bit to go skiing so i'll probably be there a lot hah

check out the newest Line update that Shane McFalls posted, it gives a little taste of what Togg has goin' on... doesn't show any of the jumps b/c they weren't up at that point, but a few of the jibs are in there.

Looks pretty sick, but one more question. I don't really know how to word it but how big's the scene like are there a lot of skiers and what about comps and what not. Oh yeah and I could I get an invite to the togg cult?

^ha sorry, i have no short term memory.

not to slob on my own mountain's d... but i love togg. it's special because it's still got that family vibe to it, but it's totally climbing the ranks in the list of NY mtns. this whole break from school, i've driven out there by myself EVERY DAY and if someone from my crew isn't there, then i can always find someone on a pair of twins to chill with.

lift tickets-

right now they are running $10/day tickets if you have your college id. that's pretty fucking sick. even if you want to get a seasons, through your school you can get discounts, or if they don't work with togg, you can still get a student pass, which i have for $175. you're good if you get that, just from being home for break, i've already gotten my moneys worth.

atmosphere-

togg is smaller but they dont cut corners. as i'll explain, they are really working at making features like those found in the terrain park more appealing. alot of the people who work there are locals, and usually are riding when not on shift- having the same passion for the mountain that season pass holders do. *food- while every cafeteria is getting killed with high prices, you'll have to cut corners on beer every so often to have $2-$3 for TogFries. Don't know what they are? you're missing out. probably some of the best seasoned french fries.. ever. the foggy goggle, the resturant found in the same building, has music, a bar, and good food. def a good way to end a date of skiing. get the make your own s'mores dessert, and you're sure to get boned after the date.

park-

from being a n00b rolling over takeoffs, i used to think park was so cool. though my skills have not improved much, the opposite is to be said about togg's In-Saanen terrain park (play on words for the various goat named trails.. google that shit). the dedication to the park is at an all-time high this year, and i don't see that passion deminishing anytime soon. while beats blare from speakers, you can choose among various rail and box jibs, with other features that circulate in and out during the season. a string of jumps can usually be found, as their size changes during the year, the fun factor remains the same. and it isn't even the locals who are taking notice. Tuckered Out Films and Meathead Films (over the last 2yrs) have both featured Toggenburg in their travels. ( www.tuckeredoutfilms.com www.lineskis.com ) with the meatheads recently coming on down, it seemed to be agreed that the 2-days jibbing at togg was some of the best/funnest times had yet this season.

events-

toggenburg held it's second annual october jam this year, entitled Hay Bails & Grind Rails, which again brought some big names. togg recognizes, just like you, that we can't wait until november for the snow to come to hit shit. by providing a place to jib and kill redbulls so early in the season, it's pretty obvious how much the clan of riders are loved by togg, and love togg back. and it doesn't end there. throughout the year you can find postings for railjams and big airs on the terrain link of www.skitog.com. i'm pretty sure toggs one of the first and last mountains to hold events in the CNY area. the ways they manage to deal with the disgusting weather patterns that you can only find here, is amazing.

alright, it's 3am and i'm feeling like i need to work on getting an adequate sleep pattern back now that i've written a passionate lovestory about toggenburg. hit up my pictures and blogs for any more info on togg.

Wow thanks a lot for the surprisingly in-depth response, it really answered a lot of my questions and I have to say I'm actually really looking forward to next year, can't wait. I might make the occasional trip back to boulder but togg looks pretty sick.

Togg is definitely is the place to be around cny. togg has their parks are up very quickly and they have some very good jumps usually. rails are always decent when set up in the park but amazing preseason at the bottom of the hill. togg also seems to be a little nicer staff wise except for the one asshole lifty. and the management at togg are a lot nice than rick brunrel at labrawhore. I just wish i bought my pass to togg this year.

word, i hear lab got their act together again, gotta get over to check out the park at some point. togg started super strong early, hit a dull point in the middle, but is surging strong again towards the end of the season.

woods valley is near Rome?!?! that is too weird, I've heard of the name, but i always thought it was in western or downstate NY. i live less than an hour from Rome, that's too weird that i didn't know it was right there.

yeah it is actually in westerville, it is wicked small and easy but they have night skiing which is pretty go. The guy that runs the park works for Bike and Boards in New hartford (which is a very good ski shop) and he is a wicked nice dude.

togg really had their shit together early on. then CNY got really warm and rained for a week straight. nick went to school and they fell aparty.thats when i hit up lab and really enjoyed their park. Now that togg is back in action i think its gonnna be sick. Photoshoot in a couple weeks there. its gonna be SICK. hows it looking nick?

word, plans are coming together nicely, it's just gonna be a matter of convincing management to spend the money on pushing a ton of snow around. i managed it last year so i should be able to do it again, i'll keep you updated.

Fun Event at Togg:

Date:

Saturday, March 15th

Registration:

9:30-12:00

Session:

12:00-3:00

Togg has brought a new event to the table this spring to help end the season with a bang, The Spring Park Session. The session promises to be unlike any other comp of the season. The idea is to finish off the season with a super relaxed, full park jam with a bunch of friends. The session is only $10 to enter and $10 for a day pass. Prizes and cash will be tossed out to anyone throwing down throughout the day thanks to Toggenburg, The Ski Company, and Imag3 Threads. No one will be competing against each other, just everyone riding together, having a good time, winning some prizes and BBQing all day! Hope to see you there.

as far as park goes, togg or lab are your best bet. but overall skiing id def be going to greak peak if i was at elmira. the drive is much more friendly and the mtn is twice the size

i think labrador mountain is really sick too, in fact when i went to lab and togg, lab had a much better park. i must admit i went when togg's park was icy and shit. go to greek peak too, since i rep that hill.

word word, lab holds it down for sure, unfortunately i didn't get a chance to go over and check it out this past winter but i heard some good things...

we have some pretty big plans over at togg for this winter. something i definitely want to work on is cutting down on those "icy" days. sometimes its impossible to get around with the weather, but we'll be working on it for sure. lots of new features too, can't wait, im pumped...

i like greek i ski there about 4-5 days a week they have a lot of rail but a small varieties of jumps

Lab's home turf for me so I'm biased, but last season their park was awesome. They had two table tops right at the top of the run that were sick, then it rained and everything melted but it was definitely a great year for lab. Hearkens back to their parks of 04 and 05 which were great.
