Park Skiing IS Rollerblading

I'm sorry, it had to be said. Tricks in both sports are thrown the same way, every trick in skiing can be done in rollerblading. A lot of people think that rail skiing will progress more towards presses, but come on! When was the last time you saw someone throw a nose press at the X-games and podium? Same with butters.

I'm really tired of people knocking blading, and people saying we have to take our sport to where snowboarding is. Skiers obviously dont ride a pipe or slopestyle course the way that boarders do, so why look to snowboarding for inspiration. If snowboarding has already done it, why do we have to copy it?

We should embrace rollerblading, even if you dont like the way it looks, at least respect it. Because at the end of the day, we're all just doing rollerblading tricks on skis.

obviously, but grabs are just minor variations of tricks

a switch 540 is thrown the exact same way regardless of the grab

Look at where halfpipe skiing is going, and look at where inline halfpipe was when it was in the xgames.

you cant tell me there aren similarities

jea, really it isnt. maybe form wise, MAYBE, but in reality presses will take over, if kids are addicted to steeze and as long as we hate snowbladers we will continuily refuse to do rollerblader slides.

but i guess rolling is cool, in its own sense, just pleeeasee leave it out of skiing!!!

thats a good point though...look at thall years ago when he did the lipslide, but got beat out by gargniers one footer (rollerblading) and how many rollerblading comps have been won by spin to win and shit, when was the last time that quality grabs and realy technical tricks (butters, presses, lipslides) got podium attention? i love skiing and despise rollerblading, but its ture, there is becoming some resemblence

I've never seen a skier do a sole grind. (If that's where they cross their legs) Some rails are similar, but not comparable as a whole.

there was a think a while back on here where u drill this metal piece to your boot and u can grind like rollerbladers do and do like soul grinds and shit like tht

see thats exactly where i disagree. Sure, we have differences like rollerblading has many grind variations that skiers cant or wont do. BUT as a whole, a flatspin is thrown the exact same way whether youre on skis or blades

I kind of see what you're saying, but a flatspin is thrown the same way on a trampoline, or a diving board, so you could compare all four of these disciplines (inluding skiing and rollerblading)and say that they are pretty much the same, but that is far from true. I suppose I agree that basic spins are going to be similar and involve the same amount of twists and flips, but that does not mean the two sports are the same. Flipping and spinning is a discipline, and skiing and rollerblading are two seperate tangents of this discipline.

I feel like I'm starting to ramble, and I don't even know if that makes sense, but whatever. People will think what they will, an internet argument probably won't change their minds.

true enough, but, the disciplines of skiing and inline are a lot more a like then any other sport.

if you but an olympic diver on skis, i doubt he'd be throwing and switch fives or some invert diving maneuver off a table top.

if you put a pro rollerblader on skis its a totally different story though.

No its not. Your fucking stupid. While I respect professional rollerbladers as atheletes, I think the sport is pretty lame. I also havent seen anyone rollerblade in like 10 years.

though, one of my best friends is like a national champion for rollerhockey, which I think is sick, but freestyle isnt cool at all.

Well, some of the rails they do are nuts, and like I said, people have skillz.

i actually agree with what ontario skiing is saying. ive been blading a bit lately to try and help my skiing, it feels simialar regardless of the fact that i cant flatspin or anything sick like that, but it has to help with grinds and balance. i actually skateboard, but i think booting is cool too.

saying skiing isnt like rollerblading is like saying snowboarding isnt like skateboarding.

sure they have major differences: flip tricks on a skate board, different grinds on blades.

but in both cases the sports are incredibly similar and should feed each other when it comes to progression.

sure you could say rollerblading is more like snowblading, and it is. and you can say skateboarding is more like snowskating.

Shaun White is still Shaun White with all the same skills and abilities whether he's on a skateboard or a snowboard.

That is just plain crazy.

And regardless of whether rollerblading=park skiing, I watched only the first vid. of Chris Haffey that someone left in the comments of that article on the rollerbladers rippin' up Mammoth. He does some crazy shizit. Some urban stuff definitely reminded me of skiing, but it only reminded me of one fraction of skiing, not skiing as a whole. Anyway, the similarities and differences will be forever up to debate.

alright, im tired, im not thinking straight, and i have to go to bed. so ill leave on this point....

As skiers, we are always looking for new ways to progress the sport. It shouldn't be a crime to borrow a trick from inline, in fact it should be encouraged, im mostly talking in terms of whats being thrown in half pipe.

Also stop talking shit on inline, no one who disses it even knows about the sport. I have more respect for bladers than anyone, theyre in the sport because they love it, not because its cool or popular. they put up with not being recognized by the xgames, the general public or any other 'action sport'. the top level inline guys are truely doing what they love, without caring what anyone says about it.

its also thrown the same way on a trampoline....does that mean we should lok to gymnastics? no, we dont need to look anywhere...jsut do whatever you feel like doing on skis

then maybe thats what we should all do...NOT CARE which still means you can do whatever the fuck you want on skis, whther you liek snowboarding, fruitbooting, skateboarding, or fucking croquet....do whatever you want

yeah but with trampolining theres nothing attached to your feet....rollerblading and skiing are extrememly similar, you cannot argue that fact, but i thought this thread was about progression, and skiing competitions are progressing to be similar to rollerblading competitions, with jsut big spins, and double flips winning it, instead of nollies, butters and presses taking podium spots

how can anyone say they hate or despise rolling... that so fucking ignorant id like to see u haters hit a handrail on skates and make it look stylish... i do both and rollerblading is WAY harder... has SO MANY more tricks (even if u cant press and shit) takes MUCH more balls and over all dedication/love... the cool thing is they get no recognition... how can u hate? have u seen a recent rollerblading video? it will leave you speechless with your jaw on the floor... the only reason people hate on rolling is sheer ignorance of the sport and because they have been told by skatebaorders, bmxers and ESPN that its lame.... thats a pretty stupid reason if u ask me... looking at skiing... it has really begun to sell out... as the rest of action sports has... im so sick of kids with fresh steezy threads and goggles and gear that cant even 360... you dont see that shit in rolling... u roll cause u love it... not cause its cool...

quote from you "every trick on skis can be done rollerblading": well thats not true. think about it, can you do backpacks on rollerblades, tail grabs, truckdrivers, nose presses, tail presses? and i have yet to see mogule skiing on rollerblades. (that last one was a joke by the way)

switchups in skiing are similar to rollerblading. No, they are not the same but they are very similar. same idea.

ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE DARK ABOUT ROLLERBLADING AND WHAT ITS ABOUT AND SHIT.............PLEASE watch the movie Barley Dead its mad legit

to really prove this point, someone need to buy some crappy ski resort, cover it in asphalt, and let bladers ride it.

that would be pretty damn sweet, but damn painful if you fell

I wanted to read this whole thread, but i just couldnt, there are so many differences, think about it, can you take roller balades in Pow, nope, lets just think about wgt. come on man. not to mention length. its tow toality different sports, thats why they should not be compared how ever i could see how you could say the tricks are sim. but at the same time not even close

Ya but skiing is like 900 years old, I think skiing is its own sport.

Do they even make rollerblades anymore? I havent seen anyone on them in a long time.

dude, jcob. notice he said "park skiing" not "all skiing"

and I know they make skateparks. I'm talking about a whole downhill mountain and table tops. with a lift.

Yes he was ref. to park skiing , and to be honest the sims. are amazing!! however you think about the the differences as I was saying , wgt. length.. and not to mention snow vs. wood or st. Just something to think about
