Park ski length

I made a formula for this once based on a survey of 100 skiers..

So from this you should be skiing on 173's

Id say mid 170s (173-178), longer if you're more skilled, shorter if you're beginning. I rode 178s when I was like 5'7" now i'm 5'10" riding 181s. A lot of it is preference. I would recommend something as tall as your eye level and up to a few inches taller than you.

can also depend on the kind of ski because a ski with a lot of rocker you might want to size up but if the ski doesn't then get it closer to the recommended size

I got about 180 and that’s way too short fort me. Even if I gained like 30lbs weight it’d still be too short for me. I’m 6’1, or as we in Europe say 186cm. Imo your park skis should be around your height preferrably a little shorter cus that alowes your skis to be quick and playful. Pretty much everyone I know, who are hood skiers, use skis that are around their height or a few cm shorter. But you’re short though so idk if it changes anything

good* not hood skier

I didn't make up the numbers. If you think 180 is too short for your height and weight then all that means is you prefer a longer park ski than the average person who responded to my poll. Although 180's for park (so specifically for jumps and rails) for someone who's 6'1" and roughly 150-160 lbs seems about right to me.

I’m 174. For the 176, I’m basing it off a traditional camber park ski with very little, if any, early rise.

how did you come up with this?

curious about that too. i ran it for me and it came out with a satisfying answer (as a starting point at least)

i usually just say start with the ski length that is your exact height and then add or subtract length based on your weight (weighed heavily, if you will; weight is just about as important as height imo for ski length), skill level, type of skiing, type of ski especially stiffness

so for me it'd be ~178 cm tall

add/subtract nothing for weight cause i'm extra medium weight

skill level: sofakingsick so add a few CMs

i like going fast and having stability so add a couple CMs

i like stiff skis so i can feel free to add nothing or even take a couple CMs off if need be (stiffness can substitute for length in a sense)

= mid 180s depending on the ski and use

I did a survey to find out ski sizes (thread here:https://www.newschoolers.com/forum/thread/868348/Ski-size-survey).

Then made a formula that fits the regression between weight, height, and ski length. Based on about 100 survey results (I got closer to 200 I think but the website I used only let me see the first 100 without paying, so it likely could have been even better).

how long did it take you to do the survey
