People on NS can be pathetic. For those who have actually left their computer and explored the ski world outside of NS, you would know that it doesn't actually snow all days of the year. So I believe it's a relevant question.

I'm there for 3 weeks at the start of next year and it would be good to have a day at a resort with a park better than Australia's

Fair enough mate! Why not! I personally know that Australia has really shit parks (with the exception of perisher) so if there's no fresh, why not explore a park for a day or two.
Also, tom wallisch went to japan to ski urban, yet you don't see anyone bagging him out.

[video]https://vimeo.com/84834855[/video]Every year I've gone, its snowed nearly everyday so park skiing didn't even cross my mind. You may catch a few days where there is zero snow to ski pow so go in the park or at the end of season to for park. This is just from my experiences anyway.

When I was in Niseko I thought I would be skiing pow allday, everyday for the 10 days I was there. But in reality I got tired of the hiking that you have to do throughout the gates and the tracked out powder inbounds so I just got a pair of park skis and skied the park there. Sure it wasn't as good as Australia but it was still really fun and got some new tricks that I would otherwise never tried. I skied eight days of pow and two days of park and in hindsight I wouldn't of changed it one bit. There is no line for the park lift and you pretty much just lap it super quick. Plus the japanese park rats are so chilled and super nice and dress so thuged.

Most parks in Japan get set up a little later in the season than elsewhere. In mid-winter it snows so frequently that it's not worth constantly redigging and reshaping features.
Once they are set up, the terrain parks are generally smaller, but the features are very well made and maintained, and riders are super friendly. You'll find alot of features are more snowboard specific.
I'm no expert on the mainland ski areas so can't help with specific parks though, sorry!

Grand Hirafu and Hanazono (both in Niseko area) have parks. The lips of all the jumps are super whippy but just a bit different to North America or Europe. Hirafu has a couple of jumps and a rail garden in already just under the King #1 lift which isnt open yet (take holiday lift instead) and the Hanazono Park has a rail line in so far and they are pushing the jumps together at the minute now, with a fun jump session due to take place on the 2nd of January with free entry and prizes to be won. They have a slopestyle comp on the 3rd of March which is a pretty high level of riding but I don't know much more about it than the date.
