Park Rangers needed

Stowe is having a Job Fair on Saturday 8th from 10am -2pm at the Mansfield base lodge.

Here's the short version, I'm looking for Voluenteer Park rangers, give me 1 full day a week for the season = 25 days, shoveling/raking in the parks. In return we will give you a Pass worth $1500 breaks down to $60/day for 25 days. Now, very importantant, only the paid Park staff is allowed to physically inspect the features (hit them) while at work, Vol are not allowed to hit the features but the other 6 days of the week you can ride them all you want! This is a good way to get a pass as long as you're a hard worker and show up on time, but if you mess up too many times, we can and will pull your pass, sound easy? Plus I would like to see more skiers on the staff, right now there's only 1 skier, come on people represent! I'm in need of mid-week help, weekends look kind of full already.

Shoot up to Stowe on Saturday and come talk to me, don't over steeze, the first people you will meet are the folks in HR, dress like you want a job, it's not a fashion show, they have some "rules" for dress code.

im just stating my opinion here but not being able to hit the features when your on duty is one of the most rediculous things ive ever heard. i understand that you want the people to do work and not fuck around but how are they gona know if they made it well, asking riders can help but if i rake a feature i only know if its well made if i hit it ya know...w/e good luck on getting some help

Agreed, it's pretty ridiculous not to allow someone who worked so hard on something to enjoy it, it's also pretty pointless because they wont know whether it was effective or not. Sorry I'm also drun kas hell. But it is ridiculous.

2 "Liability" Research it

3 What is the average payout for a workmans comp claim?

4 I have paid positions that "Phisically inspect"

the park rangers at my mountain are both given a free pass, (600 dollars) and are paid, and they are allowed to hit the features. in fact, they are supposed to in order to make sure everything is safe and whatnot.

im not taking a side because im sure stowe's liability is what makes them unable to do that but its just a little weird to me.

I'd be down to help Kurt, but the drive is gonna kill me on gas, if I could get a paid position it'd be much more realistic. As you know I will be there to help you out anyway when I can.

as they should. it's pretty cheap not to pay someone for working. they'd have to sell one ticket to pay that guy for one day.

^ you guys should just run your own mountain, i'm sure it would take atleast 2 years before you go bankrupt... ever heard of insurance? or the lawsuit at summit at snowsqualme. be respectful that Kurt's even putting this opportunity out there.

I want you to understand some things, Stowe's Parks are not the most important department at the Resort, just look at the brand new huge hotel they are building, that is a place for people with too much money and have disposable income, they will spend thousands of dollars in a weekend. Now as for the park riders, how much will park rats spend in a weekend? If it's $20 bucks, that's a lot! Sure you'll spend $1600+/- for a seasons pass but that's about all you may spend, sure you may buy a soda or a cheeseburger now and then. So when it comes to money for the department, we are not vital to the resorts operations, I get the budget and do everything I possibly can to streach it out to give you guys the most and best stuff I can, my work week here is 6 days a week 12hrs a day for a 72 hr week, and I'm on salary (paid by the week not the hour) am I slacking or something? I have money for staff but that only goes so far, so what do I do to get more help to give you guys a better park? When I suggested a Vol ranger postition, they said sure, but they had some "rules" so do I say no thanks? Or, accept the rules and get more help up in here? The Parks are the most important department to me and I have spent the last 9 yrs at Stowe to try and make the Parks better. I only see my wife 1 day a week, I'll come home round 2-3am and she is asleep, I wake up round 9-10 am and she has left for work, I'll see her on my 1 day off. What kind of sacrifice do you make?

So, does any of this make sense?

don't hire kids that can't hit the shit that you want built then or

don't build something that you can't hit that way you won't have

lawsuits or workers comp.

You shouldn't work so much. Take some time off and just put the most experienced ranger in charge for a few days and see how it goes. I know how Mts. work and it sucks sometimes. We have problems getting money for our park too.

sorry man, i wasn't trying to take a stab at you. i understand where you're coming from. and mad props to you. i really have no business putting my 2 cents in, but i just hate the way ski companies treat their employees. ive been in the industry 9 seasons as well, and ive seen a lot of shit go down. yeah, we all make sacrifices and don't get much in return. that's what im saying, management needs to recognize park crew's hard work....

but whatever dude, keep killing it.

yea man, getting ski resorts to comprehend the value of terrain parks is a hard sell (especially when you have the clientele that stowe does). and unfortunately it is usually a select few dedicated enthusiasts who have to sacrifice the most so that everyone else can enjoy the terrain parks. on top of that, it's usually only the one's making the sacrifice who know how much effort goes into it, hence all the bitchy kids on newschoolers who want everything from an under budgeted park program. people need to appreciate what they get and if they're not happy they should try to help the situation not just bitch about it.

^^ That's what I'm sayin'! Some of these kids prolly don't even ride Stowe. Look, I'm not bitchin here, just tryin to get kids to understand, I do what I do because I love it and I want to make Stowe's Parks as good as I can make them. I'm out there everyday, talkin to everyone I can, online here checkin up on what everyone is talkin bout, likes and dislikes. This is my life, makin it all happen for you guys and gals.
