iv just started skiing this season and hopin to be able to hit the park at some stage, just seekin some ideas on what i should aim to achieve in the park e.g 360's, rails..............

:)

grabbed 3s, backies, front/blind 2s off, and maybe a swup. That's what I got my first season truly skiing park.

And this. Try to have as much fun as humanly possible. Don't get pissed if you can't do a certain trick just get stoked on all the new stuff you learn. Feels amazing landing new tricks but also is super fun just shredding with friends getting stoke on others progression.

I just hate people who rock at park but just suck on overall skiing, imho, first make sure youre a good skier, then get better in powow, just focus on overall skiing, then pitch in some park, dare to go big, gain confidence in park and backcountry then just go bigger, i dont know how many days you plan on skiing this first year but i'd say if you get threes and 180 tuned in and you can take any rail or box in the park and perhaps som fronts or backies, maybe lincolns in the powder, i'd say your overall skiing goals for one year are very nice... remember get confident, have fun and dont try tricks that are way out off your league, if you focus on the basics the rest will follow automatically...

my first year all i got was a 3 and some boxes...then i built a summer setup last summer and now i can do a ton more tricks so highly recommend getting one

sorry guys that was this kid in my class who wrote that when i went to the bathroom

my buddys little brother started to ski this season..after 14 days, he could do left and rightside 360 over 15m kicker and 270 on boxes...i think he's pretty talented

Learn Switch, spin both ways, it's best to learn it early, grabbed 3's (Japan, Trucks, Mutes, Criticals, Nose), Backside 270 on, fronside 270 off, Switchups, un-natural grinds will also help down the road.

Dont go into the park at all until you can ski outside the park.

And by ski outside the park, i mean carve with correct technique on all gradients of groomed slopes, be able to ski short and long radius turns consistently, be able to ski pow and variable conditions without trouble, and just generally dont suck.

It pisses me off seeing loads of kids skiing park but have absolutely crap overall skiing technique.

Plus being able to actually ski will help you a lot with your park skiing.

Don't set specifc goals, You're only limiting your self. You get what you put in, so just have fun and don't give up on it if its hard.

have fun as much as you can ! it's the key

me, in 2 full year of park skiing, i've just done pretzel out, and some little 180's on small jump... I don't push hard because I've a lot of thing to care in my life and a broken arm or a broken legs it's not an option for me..

so have fun and go ski with some friends who are better than you.. it's going to push you to try some new stuff !

Just go out, have fun, challenge yourself, and don't really ski park too much for the first year. I would ski the mountain first, get solid there, then start hitting the park. At least spend some time skiing all over, its super fun and imo when you do something you thought you couldn't do on the mountain its more rewarding than doing something hard in the park. Besides, all over skiing skill will help you get better in the park and just make everything more fun in general.
On that note, in the park don't get too caught up with perfecting one trick before you move on to others. You'll get better at the tricks you know by doing harder ones.

Other than that, go out and giver, get boots that fit you well, and SKI.

I started skiing park in my last moth of skiing this year so I only hit the park about 4 or 5 times, but I learned 180-540 and zero spin switch 1 and such. (didnt mean to claim even though I did) but I guess that is realistic.

Like what others have said, focus on all mountain and powder at this point. Develop your skills outside of the park so that you'll be a lot more comfortable when you hit the park. For example, I've skied for 11 years, but I only recently have been getting into park (late this past season). I'm looking forward to spending a lot more time in the park this coming season.

this past season was my first. Learn 180s first and riding switch. Do rails and land backwards and forwards. I wasn't able to do any 270s on or out this year, but i can do 360s. So yeah jsut do 360s and rails thats my advice. Learn the basics the first year.

270s off and some 270s onto boxes and maybe some 5s and grabed threes and posible a frontflip, they are easyer than backs

Learn what feels comfortable to you.
i highly recomend skiing 5 days outside of park before you even go in there.
learn how to ski properly.
learn forwards and switch.
more forwards though.
then start off on boxxes and jumps and just have fun with it.
If you have a trampoline or have acsess to one,
then learn spins and stuff on that to get the feeling.
im not saying your gonna be bale to do all this stuff on skis when you get on them but it will help.

HAVE FUN! This was my first year skiing park, all I got was awesome 180's and awesome killing my hip and shoulder skills on rails. But I had fun, and thats all that matters.

try your best and also try not to over do itlearn some 270s off and possibly on if you have that much confidencetry to learn to spin both ways and do some 3'smake sure they look good cuz you dont want the habbit of shity 3's so remember to grab them

word.

If this isn't happening then it doesn't matter what tricks you are or aren't throwing

This was my first year skiing park but i had been skiing for 10 years before that and i couldnt imagine skiing in the park without skiing at least a few seasons without skiing the rest of the mountain. But in the first year i learned to do boxes and rails, 180s, 360s with grabs and a bunch of fun little stuff

Probably invent a new double flip and land it.

Probably start your own big air competition.

Probably start a video blog.

don't let people tell you that you have to be good at tricks, to be a good skier.

just go out and do it, don't claim stuff, and don't be a prick.

i hate pricks.

learn screamin semens, or double daffies.

spread eagle everything in sight.

Well since this is a whine fest i would like to say that i hate it when people get upset about people that spend too much time in the park. The fact is some people just like to ski park more than anything else.

this.

the more comfortable you are on skis before you start skiing park, the easier it will be to pick park skiing up.

haha finally thankyou!, i really only have an intrest in park, so doing BC would then take away the fun everyone is talking about having lol. of course this is personal preference and highly respect a legit BC aswell. :P

ahhhh, you're missing out man, but hey, that's just more fresh tracks for me. haha. JK. Just go out and have fun, push yourself, but mainly just have fun. Dude, pow is my favorite type of skiing, you choose the lines, you choose how to hit something and it's mother nature's park.

Iv'e skied for 12 years and I just started doing park this year and i learned 180-900 and unatural 360 and grabs up to 540 and basic inverted tricks like fronts backs and lincon. on rails i learned both swups and 270 outs with left and right foot and 270 on and a couple linking 270 outs and swup towards the end of the season.

Its amazing how much you can learn in 1 good day, on my second last day and my local i went from 180 and 360 all the way to 900 by just trying stuff on the soft snow, if you do a good 5-10 3s in one day you can land a 720 easy on your first try. Then on my last day i started to put grabs in and once i did 720s it was easy to throw grabs into my 3s and 5s.

thats intense man, props!

as to the kid... your a kiwi dude, you can do anything... go into the season with the goal to go hard, and have fun.... your progression will come naturally, everyone is different, have short term goals... aim to stick a 3, then a 5, then grabed 3 or whatever... rather than just saying, i want to land a 9 by the end of the year... you hear?

it will be easier to learn to ski 1st tho imo

first of all congrats on the 3-9's jump in one day, thats sik as bro :) and secondly thanks for the encouragement, im keen as now to see if i can progress like that.

cheers

this was my first year skiing park, after a 5 year snowboard break. just get basic stuff down and get some style, dont worry about impressing people this early

seriously... why do people ask what they should be able to do? Just do whatever the fuck you want. Who cares, just progress at your own level and get shit done!

I only got 3's and a bunch of grabs, and switch landings off rails, but I get bored of park pretty quick and just end up getting high and bombing around the mountain as fast as I can instead, plus I'm 20 which is pretty old I guess to have your first park season, got injured early on too. Def want to get some crazy grabs, fronts, backs, maybe mistys, sw ups, and 270's off next season though. But I probably won't haha.

Go to race camp to learn how to ski first. Not that i did this, but you need to be able to ski before you learn how to ski park. Besides there is loads of fun outside the park.... until you get bored at which point you turn to park.
