Park ettiquette reminder

I skied Granite Peak saturday night, 1/17/09. (The only reason I went saturday night instead of saturday day is because of the ridiculous ticket price, but thats another thread altogether.) Before I even made my 1st run, I was standing behind a snow fence that was about 3 feet high, I was doing my warm up stretches. I was completely out of the way, unless somebody would have blatantly TRIED to turn into me or jumped the fence to hit me. Since the fence was about 3 feet high I didn't think that was a big deal. Low and behold, a snowboarder jumped the fence and ran straight into me, knocking us both down. No one was hurt and words were exchanged, so I just finished my stretches, but I wasn't happy. So I start my first run, called "drop in" as loud as I could, and barrel my way to the first jump, which I landed fine. On my way down to the 2nd and final jump on that run, a snowboarder who i hadn't seen behind the landing of the first jump starts down the hill. I yell "I'M HITTING IT" as loud as I can. I know he heard me because he looked at me, and he kept going. When I hit the jump, he cut across the landing and I ended up jumping right over his head. Words were exchanged again, and nobody was hurt.

Now, I realize that these incidents involved snowboarders and not skiers, but this is not the first time I've had this sort of problem, ESPECIALLY at Granite Peak, and yes sometimes they were skiers. Even still, I would just like to remind everyone to use park ettiquette and to be smart and look uphill. Luckily nobody was hurt in these events, but I don't have to tell you that it could've been bad.

All that being said, props to Granite park crew. Lots of swoot rails and the jumps are perfectly formed. But where is the excitebike jump-on jump-off? I thought that feature was sick!!

Yesterday i was wearing my goggles up cause it was hot so i fell and my goggles came up and a snowboarder was coming by and decided to ollie them he failed miserably and now my new pink irridium lenses are broken and the goggles are scratched really badly

go big or go home you homos, shut up or get out, snaking is a part of life, it keeps you on your toes, don't stand in the line of fire, elmo rules, kimbo slice in not legit, and I love my little toe.

probably the only reason you say that is because you're the one snaking and acting stupid. If that's the case it's people like you that deserve to have your ticket pulled or get landed on. Not all of us are indestructible, some of us have our full time jobs to go to on monday, and others still have their wife and newborn child depending on said job. It's a dangerous sport and it's the snakers that make it unnecessarily more dangerous. Good attitude, Brah!

holy shit. I would have kicked the shit out of that kid. or at least make him try to pay for a new pair.

Because I'm old and have had injuries related to legs and arms. Seriously if I don't stretch even before a few warm up runs I'll be very stiff until I do stretch. Conversely, I HAVE decided that, even though I was completely out of the way, I'll be stretching much closer to the lodge now.

I have found that the best time to explain park etiquette is right after you run over somebody. For some reason explaining to them that they shouldn't stop right at the bottom of a landing is way more effective after you just double ejected them after landing switch and only having seen them after you are in the air right before you spin. At least the kid I did that to at Hyland stayed out of the landing after that.

i went to copper last yr and called drop 5 times and every1 jus went. few people (16-18yo) asked me wut calling a drop was.

how bout a sign at every park?

o there is one

make it bigger!!!

Yeah, I hear you!

Stretching is super important as you get older. I never used to but, once I started getting lots of minor injuries for no real reason, I got into the habit. It really makes a difference!

yup, couldn't have said it better lepp. for me it happened over the summer one year, i just couldn't get my grabs like i normally did and was getting hurt and stupidly sore. started stretching and that all stopped.
