Park Crews....

SUCK.

I was having a good day just hitting some slush hit some side trails waiting for the park to open. Well finally at 1:45pm the cat is done grooming and some stuff needed to be hand shapped. My dad was going home like at 2:35 so i just wanted to ride through and see what was happening and what was left to work on. As soon as i got back to the lift there was a park crew guy and he said he did i just see you going through the park. I was like what? (i was stunned and don't like to lie i always have horrible luck) so i said "Yeah, I didn't hit anyting i just rode through to see what you did with the park.

Park Crew Guy "well you can't do that i am going to have to take your ticket."

Me " i wasn't hitting the jumps and wearing them down, i wanted to see what you had done before you shape by hand"

Him " yeah but you were on a closed area and that is against the rules"

Me " well can you just let me off with a warning, i really didn't do anything immoral."

him " Sorry this is a lesson."

he struggled to to get the ticket off the wicket and every one around me was starring at him and then he takes my ticket. He turns around and says did you just go through the park to another guy. That guy was hitting jumps and had a cammera in his hand and just pressed the stop recording button and said No. The park guy looks at the camera and says must have been someone else hitting jumps.

This guy was a snowboarder who thought he was powerfull. Ski patrol doesn't even give me a warning they just say don't poach when people are around, we don't want people getting hurt.

So dumb on the spot no warning

i hate those types of ski patrol , park crew ect who think they are the boss of the hill. i got my season pass taken away and had to apologize to get it back because the jump in the park was closed so just for shits and gigs me and my friends built a little jump just to mess around on untill the jum opened and mny friends are all stading on the inrun waiting to hit it while i am just packing the jump and my helmet was sitting right beside me because it was really hot so i took it off. a ski patrol come up and say "why dont you have your helmet on"and i said"why do i need to have it on right now im not doing anything"and he says"because you are in the terrain park and need your helmt on at all times"and i said" well im not hitting anything ill put it on when i hit something its to hot right now"and i turned away to keep fixing the jump and he grabs me and turns me around and says"listen kid, give me your season pass right now your giving me a bad attitude"and basically the story goes on and we keep arguing but of corse he takes my passjust because i didnt have my helmet on while i was standing there doing nothing . my skis wrent even on

i heard some park crew girl talking on a lift about how she hit some person with a shovel while he was doing a rail she was working on. He wiped out and bitched her out and she called the ski patrol on him and tried to get them to take his pass away. She was like bragging about it on the ski lift..

Some people are just plain idiotic and abuse what little power they have. God I hate those kind of people..

At least you have a park crew at Chestnut are park crew suck. They might fix a jump every week but we have so many ruts at the end of the day.

I have a season pass can they revoke that too. I doubt it becasue the tickets have no bar codes. Sorry it isn't well written. I typed it in a miniute

The park crew at my mountain probably wouldnt give a shit. Unless you went off a feature they were working on they they would get pretty pissed off (ive seen it).

i'm on the crew at my mountain there are only a few things that piss me off hittin something im working on(some newb almost took my leg off with his ski) and hikin the park at 1015 when the mtn closes at 10 and we r trying to close...i dont ever do anything except give ppl shit we arent even allowed to take passes from ppl we can ask them to give them to us hahahahah i dont think i would ever do that...wayyy too lazy haha

the park crew is sooo sick at my mountain (White Pass, Washington)

they always keep everything in good shape

super chill guys

I definitely understand your frustration, but let me tell you how it is from the other perspective:Maintaining a park is one of the most difficult things I've ever done. Kids (such as yourself) don't mean any harm, but sometimes don't realize what they are doing by ducking ropes. It is our job to make the park as fun, progressive, and consistent as we can. When you rode through the park, you un-knowingly led everyone else on the mountain to believe that the park was open. I have seen it myself many times-someone ducks a rope just as work is getting finished up, and all of a sudden word spreads and kids are coming in from every angle. I don't know the specifics of what happened to you today, and your story may be different. The bottom line is, Park Crews everywhere work their asses off to ensure a good setup, a task which is infinitely more difficult than people usually think. While they often are sticklers about rules, don't take it personally. Just understand that we are trying to do our job and provide a sick park.

hhaahha our park crew definitely does NOT work their asses off. they sit around all day and drink beer and smoke in their little hut and laugh at everyone. they especially hate skiers because according to them we 'pre-spin' the lips and it ruins them, which we dont, while i watch snowboarders completely slide sideways on the lip and completely ruin it, but just us skiers get hate. heres a picture of the park crew at my home mountain, bogus basin, idaho:

they arent eating or doing anything theyre just sitting there

time out...

a girl park crew?

not allowed.

our park crew doesn't do anything.

i am not joking either.

they might rake out one feature a day.

that is it.

every thing is bombed out and rutted, bu

t they don't care.

i went to a different local mountain last weekend, and i was surprised that the park crew raked over the bomb holes of a few frequently hit features EVERY 45 MINUTES. it was insane. they were actually doing work.

Technically it's a perfectly legit reason if you're going by the books. You ducked a rope, you were on a closed trail, that's a perfectly good excuse to get your pass pulled. I realize, however, that in this instance the punishment seems unjust and is a bit excessive. I do agree that you shouldn't have had your pass pulled, a warning would have been plenty. But Genius put it perfectly, you just have to put yourself in the park crew's shoes to understand the frustration in these cases. Unfortunately you came across one of them who chooses to abuse his power, that I'm sorry for. I can't imagine the resort will be keeping your pass though, I'm sure they'll reconsider in light of your situation.

.

plus you were kind of a dick.

never ever never be a dick in these situations. you pretty much brought it down on yourself.

you shouldn't try to justify yourself. you can explain why you did what you did, but always apologize and say you are so sorry, it won't happen again, you didn't think it would be a big deal etc etc

The only time i threaten to pull a pass is if somebody bombs through the jump or feature we have closed off because we are there working on it. I swear some dick weaves the crossed poles, shovels, rakes, 4-wheeler and crew at least once a week to hit the feature we have closed for reshape or maintenance . That pisses me off. We (or should I say "I") keep everything maintained very well so it's not like we are sitting on the rails chillin when there is work to do. Have a little respect for the guys that build your park. It's not as easy as you think.

And he never should have pulled a pass for being honest even if it was closed...

park crew at one of my hills is all boarders, so all the other snowboarders always threaten to call over the park crew to get me in trouble. at my other hills its good. my friends dad is the park team coach.

squaw has the best park crew ive ever seen always fixing lips to jumps and rails and listen to your feedback about how you want your features to be unlike what ive seen at park city this year which is quite pathetic in comparison.

crazy ;D i´m from austria and i´ve never seen some kind of a ski patrol or anything like that here on the mountains ^^ most of the park crews are pretty lame. only in the really big parks with big sponsor deals (vans, atomic,...) they´re doing their work fine.

not so much the park crew at my hill but friday night my crew had the whole park to our selves basically we had a group of probably 15-20 ppl just lappin the park. we got to the bottum and the lifties are like

"hey you guys are just speeding through the park one more complaint and your getting kicked outta here"

"dude do you ski? cause you kind of need speed to hit jumps, its a slopstyle course it has flow thats just how it is"

"yeah well you guys have no caution you just ride around like its just you guys"

"um well yeah we are the only ones"

"then how come im getting reports"

he continued to yell at us everytime we got to the lift

Its just ridiculous the things that ppl do

first off...i still cant believe there is a mountain called bogus basin. i dont know much about the place, but based on name alone, what better place to call yourself a local at.

anyway, loon, nh's park staff consists of some of the best homies around. they rake out lips twice or three times a day when they get beat, put in long hours to get new shit up, build all their own rails, and even hook it up with private shoots...not to mention theyre just all around rad dudes who kill it on and off the hill!

That sucks you should have just gotten a warning if anything. I could understand if you hit some features but you didnt.

My mountain has got to have the laziest park crew around, i have only seen them out working one day this season, they never fix lips or anyting, and they havent changed the set up at all it sucks

at bigwhite they are great, but just this last weekend I was riding in to hit this downbar and you cant see the bottom of it when your riding in and so i just came up to hit it and right when i am about to pop onto it i see two of the park guys raking it. I almost took one of em out, the markers werent evn crossed so it looked open.

Hey man don't be raggin' on park crew when you broke the rules. I'm park crew and ski patrol at a hill in wisconsin and I definitely see where the guy was coming from. There is a reason the park was closed, especially if there was a cat in there grooming. If the park hasn't passed inspection or a feature(s) required maintanence, it is pretty important to keep people out of the park. At our park we have to inspect every feature daily and keep it closed until it happens.... which is usually before lifts start up unless we are doing a re-build. If some kid comes cruising through there without any kind of permission I would certainly have a stern talk with them... maybe not pull their pass, but I would certainly consider it depending on the situation. Don't be a dick when stuff like that happens, just be like "hey sorry dude I didn't think it was a big deal and I wont do it again." That probably would have kept you out of trouble, unless the guy was just out to get someone. Just remember that if you break the rules you have to be ready to deal with the consequences whether you agree with them or not. It is much harder to run and maintain a park than you think. I'm sorry for anyone who has a shitty park staff. Most of us are just out there trying to do our job and it really gets frustrating when kids (especially the ones who should know the rules) get in our way or we have to go out of our way to talk to them about following the skiers code and smart style.

yeah, I totally understand where the park crew guy was coming from. If I was that guy, there's a good chance that I would have taken your pass too, especially if you gave me ANY lip at all. I am supervisor of parks at a place in Wisconsin (^he works for me^). You really have no idea what it's like as park crew. When a park or feature is close, it's for a specific reason. Usually it's because we're trying to make something safer for the riders. I just don't understand what's so hard about following a simple rule such as "Stay off this run until we open it". I can't tell you how many times I've been run into, landed on, injured, and had my equipment broken because people don't stay off closed features/trails. We bust our balls (90 hours just this last week) to make sure you guys have a fun park to ride, and when some little wanna-be punk gaper ducks a fence, I have NO time for it.

that sucks... the park crew at my home mountain is awesome (not sure about how motivated they are, but theyre still dope chill people). we have gone in while they were putting signs in front of the features to close the park, taken those signs down, hit the feature a few times, put the signs back up, went to the chair, and then had them come up to us and tell us that we can keep doing what we have been doing all night as long as we put the closed signs back up before we go to the chair.

Well I have read through most of this thread and the biggest error in all of your posts is the fact that you do not mention the snowboarder who went down filming as he went over the jumps after him and did not get his pass pulled. I understand where everyone is coming from, parks require a lot of work to maintain and kids just running through it as you work pisses you off. But it's just unfair that he got his pass pulled for hitting nothing while the boarder hit many features. IMHO the boarder should've gotten his pass pulled no warning and the TC should've gotten a warning, or if he explained his situation about leaving at 2:35 then I might've let him go.

i dont think its an official park crew, just a couple of the instructors that rip park on their time off and want it to be good

Who pulled it? I know belleayre.

I was surprised to hear you skied there after reading through the thread.

I have gone through the park there when it was closed by accident and they didn't care, but it could be because they know me.

I hate Belleayre.

To clear things up, I didn't be a jerk when i told him that i went through the side of the park. When i went through the park i told the two boarders to no hit the jumps, becasue they could get hurt and/or ruin the jumps. I meant no harm. The park has a trail part to it. so i hit what ever little side jumps that were left. The boarder guy was overreacting i think.

The park crew are never chill. They go off on anything and everything. Like some one felll once on a jump, some gaper from NYC, put my poles down and helped the guy get his stuff. As i was skiing to the jump a park crew guy races up to me and screams "DON'T HIT THE JUMP. STOP right now or i report you. I got up to the guy and he says to me good thing you listened or you would be in trouble."

i replied "I was going to block off the jump, not hit"

he rides away pissed.

I don't mean to rant but it is just pissing me off. i must give credit to my mountain, this is there first official park crew, they just have no social skills.

I'm park crew at my mountain and I think I'm pretty cool, but it does piss me off when people hit features when I'm working on them, or right after I've finished for the end of the day and I'm trying to get it to set up for the night. If I'm just in the park and its closed, and somebody asks if they can go in, more often than not I say go for it, unless they look like a huge gaper or the conditions are terrible. Even when people dont ask I dont really care. Its not my job to be a dick, sometimes I pretend to call ski patrol on the radio, or I tell them that they are going to hell, but thats about it.

My mtns park crew is pretty sick, while they're not out all day grooming everything and usually only come out around 3pm to fix stuff they're generally out riding the park all day, and know all of the locals by name. They join in and start trains in the park, and will always be up to a snowball fight.

I've got zero complaints...

ski partol is a whole other story

mount snow has the sickest diggers ever allways fixing take offs and jumps they are so chill too. except for the snowball fight that happened on pay your age day if any one was there haha

Dont ever come to boltonvalley the parks crews suck the fattest cock you have ever seen no

joke they are all litteraly gay and they have no experience in anything
