Park Crew?

I've always wondered how having a job as park crew would be. you dig rails, maintain jumps, and session whatever you make all day.is there any training involved, and how long is it. it seems like a pretty fun and laid back job. it would be fun to try for a season. pay must suck but any insight????

Best job ever, the cats do most of the work, all you really do is open/close stuff, and rake a bit. Back in the day on our crew of 4 only 1 person had to be in the park at all times so we just rotated and skied wherever all day. You get to see a lot of gaper carnage too, if you're into that.

i have some friends in a parkcrew, they get a seasonpass but have to work late at night sometimes to shape the features, they're always complaining they don't get paid and only get a free pass for their work....
but still i'd love to take their place :)

a couple of my buddies do park crew they loved it untill.... some bitch fell on a staaight air and got KOed now all they can do now is just ride(not hit any features)and fix stuff. but it still seems like a fun job.

Best. Job. Ever. I love working on park crew, free season pass, decent pay, half off food, get to ski for most of the day usually with friends, get to yell at gapers, pull people's passes if they are being assholes to any other customer or employer, depending on your shift you can get fresh corduroy in the morning, the list goes on and on.

its pretty straight. get to be on the snow all day and don't have to put of with tight managers. At our mountain we rebuild twice a week tho and sometimes that sucks cuz your outside in the cold till 3 or 4 in the morning. Its hard work sometimes and not great pay but overall its about the straightest job a college kid could as for

haha sweet bro. i was just curious cus it seems like a chil job and im going out west in a year to instrusct. (as a ski instructor.) what do you usually get paid?? cus i was getting paid minumum 7.25 for instructing.

Legit job if your looking to ride a ton with friends and not looking to make any money. The 4 years I did it was the most fun times of my life. Make sure you put your work first before you just start taking laps. Take pride in your park. Be prepared to not be liked by everyone to. Some people are never happy and don't understand that you can not just go out and build a awesome park . You need the resources and support from upper management. If you your resort is lacking you work with what you got.

how much of a park crews work is actually done by cats? how long does it generally take to build a feature?

Haha i asked one of the park crew guys(all snowboarders) if skiers could work as a park manager and they were liek "uh i dont know i haven't seen one." haha so idk my mountain sucks ass.

im working park crew at my mountain, and from what i have heard people say, im expecting it to be a bitch. but as far as im concerned it will be working in the mexican restaraunt i do now and washing dishes

This exactly. We have to deal with a lot of pissed off people wanting to make the park better but you have to get it approved from the higher ups at the mountain. Another downfall (not a lot but sometimes) is when you have a feature closed off with your skis layed as an X I've had people run over my stuff (mostly gapers) just to go off the side of the lip. You also have to deal with impatient ignorant people who don't understand why a feature is closed and they just yell and scream at you to get out of the way so they can hit it even though you re trying to make it better for them. I'd say 90% of the time it's enjoyable.

Well I've been doing parks for over 12 years and it isn't like what alot of people think it is. It also depends on where you work at... some crews are lazy and ride all day and some care about the park and work all day. Alot of resorts are being more sturctured by well trained/experienced managers now days and isnt like it use to be a few years ago. Its a profession for people like me and for my crew, we work hard and play hard to put out a good product.. we dont want a crappy park nor do we want to be riding ruts or bomb holes all day, so that's a good way to see what a real park crew is like. If the parks have tons of ruts/bomb holes the really dont care to much about the park and are there to ride and be cool. Most of our day consists of raking shaping/work and guest relations. only a few hours a day to ride and just really depends on work load of the day. some days you might not have much you have to do and some you might not touch your skies/board. We pay all our park staff and we all work together to make the difference in the product, then everyone gets to reap the rewards. If your really intrested talk to a park manager and ask to do a job shadow one day so you see what its really like... theres WAY more work that goes on then most people think... since 80% of the work is done outside the public eye/overnight/closing and summer op's. hope this helps- TPC
