Park City Closing April 13th

So PCMR has scheduled to end the season on April 13th. I know the place is pretty beat and the only good thing about park city is the park and there is no real skiing other than Jupiter where all the runs end in a flat bowl and an even flatter run-out back to the lift and the ytd is only 380 inches with a weak 114" base... But April 13th? In Utah? Now that is beat.

It all has to do with insurance, leased land, employees, and other aspects that cause the resort to close. Most ski resort only have an insurance plan for so long, sometimes land is being leased from the forest service, employees plan on going home (foreign countries, etc) like the 15th so they can't just stay open longer. It sucks but if you wanna ski more just drop 279 and ski snowbird til july.

I'll just transfer this directly off the resort blog (not the park blog...)

"The great news is that you have an extra week to enjoy the tubing at Gorgoza Park as they are now scheduled to close after April 6, 2008.

Although Gorgoza Park has extended their season by a week, it does not look likely like we (PCMR) will extend past our scheduled closing date of April 13, 2008. The reason for this is that we have a ton of work to do to get ready for our summer operations which are scheduled to open on May 23, 2008! There will be a lot of shoveling needed to unbury our Alpine Slide, we'll need to do some maintenance on Payday Lift and we will also be needing to move a lot of snow to get started on a major project that we'll be posting about soon (hint, hint, wink, wink)."

it's going to take awhile to get the roads unburied that they need for summer operations and the such as well as this summers big project which terminates in the base area. And Park City has always closed on or around april 13th for as long as i've been in Utah...

Aand, it's not beat. in the spring there's much more to do than the park, the runs are stil there and aren't as crowded as over the winter breaks.

why do people hate on PC so badly for stuff other than park. I know so many stashes that have ill snow and you are able to make some realll nice turns. Park City is an ill resort and all the people that hate just have not skied the mountain with people that know it. I have lived there for my whole life so i know that resort like the back of my hand. and how is like 400 in. with 140 settled base weak?

shh!!! Let the people be mislead, that way those of who know that there's good shit to be skied can rip the stashes longer.

if your gonna come here and hate on PC, then gtfo. this has been by far the illest year for snow, and if you really think that jup is the only shit we have other than our park, then you don't know the mountain at all. Pow isn't just handed to you, sometimes you gotta hike, push, or scavenge through trees to find it. legit pow isn't always lift access.

o and thanks for fucking reminding me of our closing date.

i agree, we went there for a week and took a few days to just ski no park and we found some really nice runs, especially in the glades

hey i took back the comment about the snow. I just can't say i enjoy the terrain at pc after skiing little cottonwood, most of the resort is super flat. I tend to enjoy skiing down the mountain, not across it.

because of the glades, i have had more fun pow days at pc than at snowbird.

reason is that when pc gets a foot plus of pow pow, it goes untouched that whole day. we rolled in at 11am and got fresh tracks all day except for the two last runs.

Yep. Best late-season conditions I've seen in a few years. Oh well, Revelstoke will be open 'till the 27th.

WOW a ski resort closing the slopes early to prepare for summer operations, fuckin weak. I'll be skiing jay peak vermont till damn near May, enjoy your alpine slide. this reminds me why i love jay with such a passion for putting skiing first.

PC's "stuff other than park" is sick by Pennsylvania standards and probably even by Colorado standards, but not by LCC/BCC standards.

hey you know wht it is still good skiing. plus i have had the best pow day OF MY LIFE at park city. i have had some good ones at alta but it gets tracked within the first couple hours.

and in other news, highboy will be going down both the 13th and the 20th...yes, that means highboy will be on 4/20...who else is stoked!?

i will admit there is nothing more frustrating than getting to the bird after some new snow has fallen just to find a majority of the mountain tracked out. You can always find good stuff though, just need to know where to look. And like any resort, be willing to hike.
