Parents annoying about license

My parents threaten so many things over me being allowed to get my license such as grades, drug tests, or me not having a job yet, i need a license to be able to bring my self skiing more than once a week. Has anyone else faced any issues with their parents letting them get their license?

My dad was really strict when i got my permit but then like 6 months in to having ny license he was fine.

prove it that your worth them paying for your insurance, rent, food, the car, ect. Life is a give and take, you want the responsibility of driving, the man up and get a job, get good grades and show your parents that your worthy of having a license.

sounds like you got a good life, how old are you. im sure many people didnt get their license untill much older. i can tell your pretty young, i didnt get my license until i was 19 i just had people drive me. you will survive, or get your fucking act together and you will get your license.

unless youre in a major city, or have some type of disability, theres no reason to wait to get you license. not sure what youre talking about killabees

Yeah you've got it easy man. My best friends parents are mega crazy religious mormons and in order for him to get his permit and license he had to read the Book of Mormon multiple times, get his Eagle scout award, go to church consistently for months, and so much other stupid shit.

I wasnt allowed to get my license until I had a job to pay for insurance, i actually didnt get my license until this past september, shit got old so fast. People saying that you'll survive a few years, which yeah its nbd but it gets old, friends get annoyed, you have to have ur parents drive you everywhere when the rest of your friends have been driving for 3 or 4 years already.

OP get a part time job, pay insurance, dont be a fuckin retard, and be responsible so you can enjoy the freedom of driving like the rest of the kids your age. I know exactly what youre going through and its annoying as hell.

I turned 16 last month and I've been waiting to get my permit so I can eventually get my license but I don't have any of my shit for it like my ss card or birth certificate and my parents couldn't care less about getting it

Focus on the priorities, You won't be able to pay for gas or lift tickets without a Job, or maintain a job with bad grades. My parents were and are a pain in the ass about it but it keeps you going. your parents money flow will end sooner or later

Paying for shit helps. My parents were strict to. But I got a lot more freedom when I payed for my own insurance, gas, and car

Parents weren't strict with me. I had a job, and I didn't get in trouble. My grades were/are atrocious, but I showed them that despite that I was still a responsible person.

I needed a car before I could even get a job..? What did your guys' parents do? drive you to work or something? hahaha.

My parents didn't want me working in high school. They'd rather see me focus on school and being a kid. Even now that I'm in college they hate that I work. I think it's pretty strange how parents force their kids into working tbh. If you're in high school or college that should be a priority, especially if you're paying for it. So I see why they'd want you to keep your grades up. That's pretty important tbh, even if you don't really care about school.

I'm still trying to figure out the logic of getting a job before having a car. Isn't that like a huge burden on your parents to drive you around? That just sounds stupid in my opinion.

Bicycle and subway. I had awesome jobs before I could drive some of them I'd work right now. (Chilling in a park and opening the gate and closing it for example that's my kind of gig.)

Do you have like a school permit that allows you to drive to school related events? I did and I told my parents my school had a ski team and it was all good.

word. if you have public transportation that makes sense. That is not a thing here and child labor laws are SO strict for 14,15, and 16 year olds. Like 3 hour shifts max on weekdays and 4(maybe 5) hours on weekends. It's more of a hassle than anything to hire someone that young. So if you're that age you're likely working sketch jobs under the table tbh.

pretty much, i started working at a farm when i was 13 getting paid under the table ofcourse with 10 hour days in the summer, i drove my fourwheeler every where and thought i was the shit. it kind of sucks but i was the richest kid in middle school :)

I turned 16 in summer and my parents did not let me get my permit until the first quarter report for grades were out to make sure they were good. Give it some time.

Force th issue buy yourself a car that will rot if they don't help you get it on the road if you have a grand or two in the bank just buy a car cash and then beg them to be chill. I did this within a day of getting my license my mom wanted to kill me but in the end I got my own wheels instead of sharing she wasn't happy tho that I made that kind of a power move to get my independence. I had strict parents hell even today I'm 30 year old man away at my uncles for the holiday and wanted to run an errand in the rental car and get some time to myself before food and it took 45 mins of arguing/begging to get the friggen keys off my mom.

Heres the good advice realize right now they probably don't want you to get a license until after the winter so u can't get in a car crash on the way to the hill. That's how parents operate don't take it personally. U have to do whatever you can to get around that and mature honest discussions don't work in these situations. Beg/make threats/throw tantrums and get those wheels son. Say your gonna get a slutty freshman pregnant and bang with no rubbers if u don't get a car ur parents might react to that threat.

Not having a car to use

Not wanting to pay for car insurance

not wanting to pay a driving instructor(mandatory sessions in some states)

having to drive other people around and the risk associated

other than jerz. how many states are there like that. the ability to drive to me is worth it. even if I didnt personally own a vehicle

Driving a car is a huge responsibility. Your parents are trying to make sure that you're mature and responsible enough to drive.

And it sounds like you're not.

My parents were always telling me to get a job even though I don't have a car. They are usually pretty happy to drive me to work because they know it's good for me. Or maybe because its on the way to their office.

So your parents want you to get halfway decent grades, not do a bunch of drugs when you know you're getting tested, and get a part time job anywhere you want in exchange for the privilege of driving. Maybe I'm just old but that seems completely reasonable to me...I mean I would set the same rules for my hypothetical kids. Why don't you just do what they want and then you can drive to the mountain? They're only looking out for your best interests.

What the fuck is with this generation? Wah wah, my parents are making me do this. Getting good grades in school isn't that hard, it's literally studying and repeating shit. I know you think like marijuana is the coolest thing in the world but 5 years out of school the losers still smoking are the ones complaining that they have no qualifications. And a jobb? What the fuck? I thought a part time job as a teenager was a given? I got a job as soon as I turned 14 and anything I wanted that wasn't a bare essential I paid for myself, this included clothing, gear, you name it. I'm sick of kids who complain about their parents not buying them shit. You are currently at the easiest part of your life and you're complaining. Get the fuck out of here.

Fuck off

My parents were cool with me getting my license early if I paid for my drivers ed, so I did. Then I wanted to buy a car (with my own money) and they didn't want me to. Months of arguments and annoying bullshit and I got sick of it and just went and got myself a job. Told my dad I either you let me buy my own car, or this job is a bust and you have to pay for a lot more of my shit. Checkmate as far as my family was concerned.

You need a more compelling argument than "I wanna go skiing by myself all the time."

are drivers licenses like a huge investment where you guys live? cause everyone is talking about needing a job to pay for cars and insurance and all that shit and all this kid wants is his license which cost me about $125. its a good piece of ID to have and it's good to be able to drive legally in an emergency. I don't know why anyone would want to hold back their kid from getting their license.

Aw is someone mad I made fun of their pen pal.

You're just butthurt because I got pink names all up in my inbox and you're still trying to convince yourself that losing your virginity at 23 somehow verified your pathetic existence.

What shit would he have to pay for exactly?

yea don't do this. i made the mistake of slacking on my driver's ed requirements and ended up getting my license when I turned 18 (March of my senior year). friends might get pissed they have to drive you around after a while and it'll be a lot tougher taking girls out. all in all, especially if you go to high school in a rural area like i did, i would recommend you do everything in your power to get your license right away.

I just talk to girls in real life, but have fun with your pink name that apparently you own, who write you messages in your inbox.

You should be thankful you had a situation in which your parents could afford to take care of you and let you focus on school. I chose to get a job and pay my own rent and phone bill and car insurance soon as I moved out of my house the month after I graduated high school because I understood the burden that it was putting on my parents and they had more important things to focus on and pay for. I grew up under the impression that I was an adult at 18, and began acting as such.
