Parents and freestyle skiing

My parents are always on my back about my freestyle skiing. They especially hate when I do fronts and backs, or inverts. They have punished me various was when I do tricks around them or they hear of me doing them. I don't know what to do about it. Does any one have suggestions or a similar situation to mine?

my dad likes the fact that i can do stuff, but my mom is a bitch, not just about skiing but in life

thats wicked lame. my dad actually carves the pipe with me occasionally u no trying to do some bonding and that shit. my parents are chill about it but only get pissed when i do urban.

yea both of my parents do that a lot. my mom just gets worried, and my dad makes fun of me because he thinks its stupid

yeah for sure... at 16 you are old enough to have a little bit of independence. Independence in extremem sports at the very least. Dont worry soon you can do your completely own thing.

my dad is super into it. he loves watching me doing shit in the air. he gets so stoked! the other day he said he wanted to buy a camera (pointing at gl2) and said he wanted to do the fallow cam stuff.ahah hes crazy, but so cool about it.

your 16....

well i guess im lucky cuz my parents are supportiev of what i do but still

no matter how bitchy ur parents are they shouldn't be able to punish you for what you love doing.

yea im 16 to my parents are cool with it they laugh at me when i hurt myself and dont care if i do urban cuz i wear a helmet and thats good enough i guess

Maybe one day, when you have a child of your own, you will understand that your parents come from a different era than you, and they see what you are doing as very high risk. The last thing your parents want to do is lose you, so when they are being tough on you, tell them that everything you are doing is a controlled risk, and that you are as careful about it as possible.

just keep on skiing, and wear a helmet if it'll keep you out of trouble. My mom was nervous about me switch skiing but I don't let that stop me. So sometimes parents' worries can be a bit silly. (although keep in mind that there is usually truth in what parents say...)

Take charge of your own life, and don't let them dictate what you do for fun.

wow.. that must suck.. my dad's cool bout me skiing, but i dont think he knos i freestyle.. all i show him is carvin down the mt. only my friends kno.. lol. but if i had started freeskiin in front of my MOM.. she's gonna freak

They don't really like it when I throw inverts...but they think its pretty cool and support me even though they get nervous. It's all good.

i suck too bad for my parents to care, not to mention they don't really know much about the sport other than from what they see me watching in movies, and they know i'm not trying anything too crazy...and when i told her i was going to slide a 60 foot piece of metal pipe down some stairs,my mom just told me not to get hurt, as all parents would.

hahah what was your punishment? i'm curious

My dad 's just like, you think your the shit cause its called "newschool" and you think its all innovative.

You think you invented this stuff? When I was a kid, we did Jamie Paul's and spread eagles, now those were the best!

i can relate dude, my dad like gets pissed at me when i get hurt doing urban shit which kikda sucks, but then i ask him if i can ski off the roof and hes like go for it, so i dunno

baaahahaha.

be 25, buy your own gear and season pass, move where the snow is awesome, do whatever the fuck you want.

sorry, thats not even slightly helpful. go with the drug answer.

yea my parents just dont want me to get hurt anymore cuz its expensive to pay for. they dont want me doing those "flip off cliffs like that guy in your ski movie does"

my adad was a freestyler back in the day so he is stocked aabout me doding it, he cant belive the progression, back in his day it was like stait pencil backs not sw truck9's

I know what you mean. I just don't tell my mom waht I do or show her movies because she will have a heartattack. My dad on the other hand has been skiing since cavemen era and it's his biggest passion in life so he understands why I do what I do. He just tells me to be careful and that's only because he was at the bottom of a jump when I overshot and shattered my wrist. So, I can understand why he tells me to be careful, and It doesn't bug me at all it just shows that he cares.

my parents were kinda slow to catch on but now they're more supportive of it. i havent done inverts yet so i dont know if they be cool with that but i cross that bridge when i get to it. but they're pretty cool. i dont know any other parents who would let their kid drive 90 minutes round trip every day of the winter by themselves to go park skiing

my folks brag about the shit people tell them ive done... i went to this one company dinner thing with my dad and hes bragging that i did this.. mediumish cattrack gap

and my mom just whateves i dont even know

my parents are not supportive of freestyle at all. They think it is just a phase that i need to grow out of. My parents actually told me they never want me to jump on skis again! i am 22 years old, what a joke.

sucks to be you. me on the other hand, my mom will hit up boxes occasionally when she swings by in the park. and not the gay straight ride over, she can throw alittle steez.

this is a good reply, so true for many people too. like for me i dont need drugs to get high, skiing gives me a natural high.

both my parents are down with me doing tricks and shit, they think its cool, but my dad says my legs/back will be fucked by the time im 30. haha.

haha my mum just tells me if i get hurt she will pick me up from the hospital, as long as i wont bleed on the carpet, no shit she yelled that at me before when i needed stiches
