Paramedic or Film Arts?! Help!

Alright so I'm in a bit of a dilemma, please here me out cause I need help.

Alright so I've been interested in the film arts for quite a while and I can whip up a good skate video, or better yet the stuff I did in com. tech (commercials, music videos etc) was qual and i got like 95 on all my projects. Seems fun and laid back, but for the classes I want, I'd have to move to Toronto...which I cant afford and would have to take a year off to work full time which I kinda don't wanna do.

But I've also been considering being a paramedic. Great perks with working with the government like pensions and shit. I've been a lifeguard for about 6 months now and I'm very confident in every situation. I already know advanced first aid and how to operate a defibrilator. Paramedic would be the next step up and I think it would be an awesome career (plus its an adom bomb when pickin up the ladies!). I would be able to stay in town for this job, go to Algonquin, and I can afford it without taking a year off. I think all that on-the-spot action would be sweet but it could get overwhelming and stressful.

So I'm just not sure what I want to do here. Any advice or anything on either (if you have experience or not)? Applications are due in February and I need to think quick.

dude same here. but your more ahead than me. im bcoming a lifeguard, want to be a paramedic, but am also interested in graphic/film arts. being a paramed would probably mean like alot of night shifts and being on call alot. more stressful, maybe. depending on what you would be doing in the film side of things....not much of help here but oh well. there would definately be less responsibility in the film arts field...there would be deadlines and shit but in the paramedic side there would actually be dead people....or dying at least

yea i think i could handle all the carnage. ive seen my share lifeguarding and i can handle htat stuff pretty well. late night shifts would bother me though...well only when i have a family. first like 10 years will be me just drinking and partying n shit.

be a medic

it sounds like there are way more pros for medic than the film choice.

and plus when your a medic you get to realize everyday you are possibly saving someones life

think about THAT.....

paramedic. my film arts teacher used to be some pro guy and then he went psycho. so yah. paramedic sounds better, and you woulndt get bored much i guess

kyle, go with paramedic.

so you can stay in town and go to the same college as me!

plus as a paramedic im sure finding work will be much easier than getting into the film industry.

I'd say paramedic, they are alot more needed.

Filming is a good hobby in my opinion, meaning, you can work a job that is guaranteed money and work on filming in your spare time to get your mind off of shit and possibly make money on the side.

yea i feel a bit more strongly about paramedic but when i think that way then i think shit what about film that would also be so dope...and then im like but paramedic! and its just a circle of thoughts...

you need to be passionate about HUMANS if you wanna be a paramedic.

being arrogant and money hungry=asshole.

i have a bunch of friends training to be firemen and paramedics, and there is really only one guy that has what it takes.

the rest are looking for a cool job that pays well.

do film.

it will be harder, but i dont want to be worked on by some jackass who just wants a good pension.

guess you didnt read the whole initial post did you. i just said theyre some perks to the job. im not in it for the money im in it cause its something id be good at. and if you ever go into cardiac arrest and im on the scene...ill be sure im not the jackass to help you.

paramedic.

there is a total lack of people selfless enough to go and do something like that, and you can always do film on your off hours.

if i were you, based on what you said i would go to algonquin to be a paramedic, but id deffinetly try to get a lot of work the first year too that way if you dont like your paramedic courses after your first semester or first year, and it doesnt interest you, you can drop it and maybe have enough money so that you can go to film arts the next year. But to buy you more time to decide, obviously apply to both programs.

neither of those choices make any money so if you are cool with that go for it. I have to say though that one some of my buddies want to be paramedics and those jobs are pretty hard to come by because the training is pretty short and easy. Also they see some pretty fucked up stuff. Just go to college take out some loans have fun and get a degree. Thats my advice do what you want.
