Paper on Skiing

so for my history class i am writing a 20 page paper on skiing. my teacher wants me to write about the 'fact' that corporate performance skiing or competitions are compromising the 'soul' of skiing and what it is really about. do you agree with this as a general statement or no?

Competition ruining the 'soul' of skiing? Stupid statement at best. It assumes skiing has a 'soul'. Go back and ask him to define 'soul', then start writing your paper IF he can come up with a decent answer.

it can be done as a college thesis paper at 20 pages... damn, that's a lot. what level of education is this for? you would have to do a ton of research for there to be good sustance throughout the paper.

 
To answer your question, I think that it is a semi-valid statement. It is the competitions, etc., that drive the ski industry, but when it comes down to it, it's all about having fun- and 20 pages, damn. Good luck.

you should make this one section of your paper, but 20 pages would be stretching it out a lot....try to broaden your topic but still keep this statement as one part of it

go into oldschool skiing too, like with kneissl blue stars (skis) and stuff being at insanely long lengths, and bring it all the way up to today. I'm not sure exactly what you're paper's on. But history would be good, then going back to say that one thing is the same throughout history. People who ski just want to have fun.

yah to get twenty pages im doing like a huge ass part on the developmen t of skiing in this country and in europe and then on the 10th mountain division. amd i wasnt sure i really agreed with what he said about the competitions. but hey 20 pages will be super easy, i have ten already. suppppper easy to bullshit matter of factly....but hey (its for a tenth grade paper)

The history of women in sports would be really interesting. You could talk about the obsticals we have overcome, and the biased and prejuduce we still face.

i'm doing a paper on women in sports right now. I originally did it because my teacher is a feminist, but it is actually really interesting.

no fucking way is a 20 page paper easy for anyone in high school, longest paper i've had in college was 15 pages(that was a huge research paper), and im done with english, you gotta be full of shit....

why would i lie? do you think i enjoy writing it? no no really i dont. dont talk shit, i go to a different school in a different place, you dont know what you're talking about. and im not fucking with you all, yes i do have to write a paper thats 20 pages, from what i hear college papers can go up to 50 or 100 pages

Unless it isn't possible, or you're planning on doing a whole lot of research on skiing since the beginning(and I don't mean the mid 90s, AKA the beginnings of modern freeskiing), I would really recommend a paper topic that has NOTHING to do with skiing, or action sports in general. There aren't enough decent academic sources to get you through it. Trust me, I've tried. It got me a mark of 70% and the following statement from my prof: 'I applaud you for trying to write about skiing, and action sports in general. An interesting read and a decent paper, but your paper suffers because of lack of sources. Your interest in this topic is obvious, as shown by the personal interview conducted as research. Topic selection, however, was your downfall'

Actually, for anything over 2000 words, sports as a topic can be a VERY boring go. It's def. doable, but if you care about writing something exciting, expect your heart to give out at 6000w or thereabouts.

 
i've almost graduated from college and i've never had to write anything close to a 20 page paper

im a week away from writing it guys.....ive already done all my research, its not just about freeskiing or whatever..its about all kinds for all uses, with a few ( 7-8) pages concerning opinions and critiques of how the sport is going. thanks lesbains, that helps
