Pan's Labyrinth

I saw a commercial for it when I was up real late one night surfing channels. I'm kinda interested, but I heard its only select cities, so it probably wont come my way until its out on video.
 
does anyone know if it will be dubbed or subtitled? i freaking hate subtitles. trying to read takes away from the action.
 
i'm almost positive it's in spanish. if you go to their website it's been winning "best foreign language film" awards left and right. has anyone seen it yet? it's out in some cities. i have to wait until the 19th.
 
Uh... some of the best films ever made are only available with subtitles. If that's a problem for you I have serious doubts about your value as a human being.
 
i downloaded it off of mininova, its pretty crazy, but the story is wicked wicked intricate which makes it real good. Id suggest for any one who likes movies to see this movie.
 
AGGGGHHH!! Holy shit!! Have you never seen City of God?? Y tu Mama Tambien? Amores Perros? La Haine? Amelie? Les Diaboliques? To name just a few...These are some of the best films you will ever see and if you can't deal with subtitles then quite frankly you don't deserve the pleasure of seeing any of them, dubbed or subtitled.

I've read a bit about Labrinto del Fauno/Pan's Labyrinth (not the same as Labyrinth, the David Bowie film!) and I can't wait to see it. It's already in top 150 of all time best films on IMDB.
 
you're a moron. reading subtitles take too much brainpower for you? how could you prefer it being dubbed, it looks and sounds fucking ridiculous.
 
why the hell would I pay money to listen to someone speaking mexican? It is the most annoying language in the history of human beings, and if anything, I would pay money to not hear people speak that monstrosity around me. Uck.
 
i seen the preview for it the other day at the movies and it was in english....i don think its gonna be spainsh w/english subs when it drops
 
i saw it. it was really good. the only bad part was that one of the characters looked like hellboy.

def should go see it.
 
yeah but mexico ruins it for the real spaniard.. but yeah hellboy was a shitfest... like that movie is for those kids that wear dragon shirts and shit and smoke parlimint lights and fuck.. goddam hellboy.... dont fuck with tanka hell shit on your moms grave
 
alright, just got back. here's my two cents:

YES, IT IS IN SUBTITLES. it makes the dialogue much more complex, which complimented the story.

the story was really interesting, there are several different things to focus on at any given time.

there are a few super graphic parts, my girlfriend almost puked. awesome.

all in all, this movie was worth seeing for sure. i just know it'll be one that i'll keep thinking about over the next few days. one thing. DON'T EXPECT THIS MOVIE TO BE LIKE THE TRAILERS. IT'S NOT.
 
i really hope this comes to play somewhere in vermont... any fellow VTers have an idea if it will? looks good, and maybe i'm the only one, but i love foreign films and i like reading subtitles.
 
your being really ignorant. I saw it last night and it was one of the best movies Ive seen in a while. This is saying a lot because I wasnt high either. Don't judge it by the trailer.

The cinetography is amazing, they obviously put A LOT of work into this film and it shows. The movie itself, the plot, lighting, acting, is crazy, I cannot imagine how it would be to see tripping or really blazed.

Anyone who appreciates good films or even if you dont, I'm almost positive you'll like it.
 
Fuck dubbing, it would take away from it so much. After about 10 minutes you should forget your even reading the subtitles. The fact that it isn't an american film is part of hte reason it worked so well. We focus too much on every actor being beautiful and perfect here. People arent usually that way in real life. And not to spoil the ending, but you wont see that kind of ending or violence towards a little girl in the US for the most part

If you can't read without "missing the action" then don't fucking bother. Dubbing... Jesus Christ. Just like in Germany, every motherfucking movie gets bent the fuck down and dubbed right up it's ass with wilthy deutsch bullcrap!

Hrrr.. gives me the shivers of watching Pan's labyrinth, one of the best fantasy movies ever made, being dubbed with either shitty English voice acting "talent" or a German dub, maybe a one-man dub too, like a couple of movies. (Seriously.)

Let the subtitles flow, what better way to learn language as a kid too than to learn it yourself like many had to while watching Turtles with subtitles..
 
i haven't seen it but i want to and the review in rolling stone review said it was excellent, it got 4 stars if i remember correctly

 
ummm.... you all must be the dumbest turds on earth. why the fuck do so many people reply when they havent anything to add?

i saw the move a few weeks ago. the fantasy aspect was kinda cliche in my opinion (the eye monster was really original though). what amazed me was the stark realism which clashed against the fantasy. its an era of history that rarely sees the light in english culture and that is, the Spanish Civil War period. the fascist general is a really scary character, even more intense than the eye monster. i totally recommend it, it would be a cool one to get stoned for...
 
It's a very good movie. And the subtitles certainly do not take away from the movie (apocalypto and downfall are good examples where subtitles work as well). I would disagree about the fantasy being cliche. I thought it was far from, because it wasn't a dedicated fantasy. But it was very interesting seeing the harsh real real coupled with the fantastical coping world that the little girl had. The ending got me too; didn't see that coming, but it works very well. Different and harsh movie. Excellent
 
My friend's dad is on the academy.. she has all the movies out in theatres on DVD.. this one was at my house last week but I didn't watch it, I'll have to get it back and give it a peek.
 
shit i just saw this movie and damn... soooooooo dope. i kicked back a fat 2g heady spliff before and i was in awe the whole movie. going back to see it again it was so good
 
I just went out and saw this last week on your recommendation and I was really impressed. I was exhausted when I went so I didn't realize all the underlying things that were going on until the end, so that was a little overwhelming to figure out all at once. I'll probably go see it again in the near future.

Hacete un favor, deja de ser tan maleducado, y llamarlo al idioma de su nombre correcto... no es "mexican". Vos vas a estar re jodido en en el futuro cuando se requiera que se hable dos idiomas. Asi que, mientras tanto, que te jodas.
 
i downloaded it and watched it like a month ago, and it is really good. you get used to the english subtitles pretty quickly. by the ads for it i thought it would be different than what it was, but it was still a good movie
