Panasonic PV-GS300

yea, i think it's good quality for the money. i really dug the lcd screen. you can see it really wall even outside durring the day, alot better than the one on my gl2.

Definitely a solid consumer 3-Chip camera, if you can get a good deal on it then it is worth the money for sure.

sorry to bring back this thread but..

How does this camera shoot in low light and does it have the option to hook up a mic?

well we film with a pasasonic gs 500 and the quality is very could just a little under the gl2 in quality

well im talkin about the pvgs 2, so therefore my opinion isnt valid anyway. its the bottom of the line camcorder and i have to hit the reset button constantly. tape deck doesnt always work and sometimes i get horizontal blue lines across the screen

I have a g500, and I am very happy with it. great colors, I used it all winter, and its quality is comparable to a gl2.

This line of camcorder from panasonic are perfect for someone searching for nice quality filming, without spending all his money.

i have the gs300 and i kind of have mixed feelings about it. First off, and most prominently, its good bang for your buck. It's quite cheap for the image quality it gets, i've been able to get some really nice looking shots out of it. Biiig downside is manual controls, sure they got some, but they're so hard to access, that you basically cant use them. The lack of a focus ring hurts it in my opinion as well, but i suppose you could get buy without it, theres still manual focus and it's somewhat easy to get at, but you have to adjust it with the joystick and that's a pain. Also, something it's hugely lacking is multiple film settings... or something, i cant think of the word for it. Like with the gl2 (i think, i haven't read this or actually used a gl2, i held one once and messed with the setting for a second), you can have multiple things on auto, and keep one thing off... i think, or something to that effect. With the gs300 theres just one setting for manual controls, leaving all of them on. That wouldn't be that much of a problem if those controls were more accessible so i could change them on the fly.

In conclusion it's a good camera if you're not looking for manual control. If you just wanna go out and just point and shoot with pretty good quality, this is definitely a good choice.

Oh ya, some afterthoughts, the EVF (eyepiece) doesnt angle up, so if you have anything larger than the stock battery you wont be able to use the eyepiece. Theres no timelapse feature, which isnt that big of a deal i guess, some people want it though. On the plus side i found it very easy to do follow cams with, dont worry about making a handle for it, just get a fisheye and you're set.

whats a good fisheye or wideangle lens for the gs500? im gonna be using it for follow shots skiing and skateboarding. thanks
