we are painting the rails that we just finished welding...do you paint the whole thing...even the grinding surface or what...casue wouldnt the paint make the surface sticky?....and how do you make the rail slicker...so even when it is dry you can slide it?

I wouldnt paint it. To make it smoother get a nice belt sander and and just keep running it across the top. Or sandpaper and or bench grinder. You get the picture.

 
definitely don't paint the metal part of the rail, but I heard of some people like waxing the metal to help it not rust. But just spraying stuff like cooking oil spray or stuff like that makes it smooth and slippery. Just don't spray too much at all or else you'll die.

well...the rails at the resorts all all painted on top.....should i paint it and then wax it...or just spray it on top really thin...or jsut spray everything but the top?

When I think of paint on a rail it just dont seem to work. Spray paint will definitly chip and fall apart during the winter season. Just leave it raw.

well...i have seen paint ontop of the rails at my resorts.

we have that same kind of paint...i guess it all gets scratched off anyway..but i think it does make the metal slicker one it is gone

those are all painted....is paint the best thing from keeping it from rusting...because we just grinded all the rust off with an electric grinder...and we never want to have to do it again

it wont rust if you put paint on it. if you paint it will make it slicker. put wax on top of the paint if you want it reallly slick

 
what kind of wax...we have candle wax...then i found this box of crap that said it is for snowboards, surfboards, and anything to reduce friction...should i melt it on in drops and then just hold the flame to the rail so it melts all over it or how do you wax it?

i use candles sometimes and they work fine. there is wax made for like skatebaording that works real well but it is more expensive. all you gotta do is rub the wax on the rail. the harder u apply it the more the wax will go on the rail.

 
dude just do what common sense tells you, if you melt wax on its gonna be all hard and your edges are gonna dig in. Just paint your rail and rub wax over it.

yeah man, Im a kinda a hipocrite though because I asked pretty much the same amount of questions for my box, but yeah, Wd-40 would work, but for real don't put much or else your feet will slide right out from under you.

thanks dude...how is your box anyway...my box sucks...i got some plastic stuff to put on it...and it is stickier than crap...so what should i do on it...wax it or something?

i bought a rail from dicks and the paint came off the first time i still it. they sold me a double kink for 60 bucks

does anyone know a website for a person who makes, skate/snowboard/skateboard rails or anything? cause i kinda want to start up a company next summer making them or maybe in like feburary or something...and i want to see their pricing...and what they make and stuff

just leave it raw and get a big wire brush that fits into a power drill and polish that bitch, makes it smooth and fast, but not too fast.

dont spray paint. Hand paint the rail and leave thick coates and do it a few times. If anyone has ever grinded a handrail here with fresh paint (never been grinded) its the best surface ever. I also worked in terrain park and set up about 10 rails last winter. Trust me.

jesus christ i cant believe this post is going so long. I bet if you use a certain type of paint it wont come off for a long time. Just email a big resort like mamoth or something and ask the park crew what paint they use on the rails cuase that paint doesnt come off and it slides well.
