Painting/Dyeing Canvas shoes

I know there are already a couple of threads about shoes and I think I saw one about dying them but i looked around for a while and didn't seem to find them. I was wondering if you guys have any neat ideas to paint or dye onto a pair of white canvas shoes similare to Vans Eras. I was thinking of either trying to paint marker them with maybe a native themed design or tie dye them. If you guys have any cool ideas I would be super excited.

Peace.

i like red wine dye fading into turquoise at the back i did it a little while ago. You dip the front of the shoe into purple mixed with red. let i dry and bleed then dip in bright bright blue. Another which is cool that my mum used to do is just splatter random colour paint all over them like green blue yellow and red. Thats dope.

Thanks alot. I think I might try the one with the blue and red/purple. Do you dip the second end while the first is still wet to let them make a new colour together or wait for it to fully dry? And do you dip half the shoe in each colour or do you do maybe a third dipped on each end and leave the mittle white to bleed? If there are any other ideas out there I would be greatfull if you would care to share them with me. Thanks again!

I have Vans Eras (eras/authentics, best shoes in the world) but mine are blue, I kind of want to get a white pair so I can die them, it looks fun

Did this with a pair of toms white canvas shoes. I just did the splatter and i came out really good. I just hung them up and throw blue green and gray paint ( i believe it was all weather paint) on them with a brush.

sorry im terrible with Ns um well yeah i washed it out then dipped it in so it bled into one another it looked pretty nice.

i know you can paint them because a girl i know has vans that got painted on. there's some type of paint where you can paint the shoes then send them through the dryer, and it like bakes on permanently

this isnt dying but when I get my new pair of authentics I'm going to take my old eras and do the microwave thing that makes them soft. If it works on my old ones Ill do it to the new ones

Whats the microwave thing? I may sound dumb but i dont understand what the purpose is of microwaveing shoes to make them soft dose. Also I dont care what way the shoes get altered as long as they are cool and unique at the end.

I have never painted canvas shoes, but I found and read a tutorial online on how to paint leather shoes. This is what I did with some all white nikes:

I don't really feel like going out and buying more shoes, so do you think it would be possible to paint or dye a pair of faded black vans?

they're hemp if that affects anything...

I didn't read the whole thread so sorry if this has been said... I think you would be fine with a bi or tri-coloured dip dye. Or you could use applicator bottles to make cool designs. just use regular old "mx" dye or RIT and make sure the shoes are made of cotton, silk, rayon, linen, or hemp.

Here are the shoes I finally made. I dip dyed them first in teal and gold to make a greenish colour in the middle then sharpied a design on top of that.

If you have an Urban Outfitters near you, you can buy ones like the ones i used for 18$ i think? Or online. Decent shoes, and then you're not so worried about messing up. Thanks for the feedback though.

Do you have to worry about the rubber getting dyed? If not I know what I'm doing tomorrow. I have a pair of old white vans I could do it to

I dont think you have to worry about it, mine worked out fine, and I didn't do anything about it. I'd definitely take the laces out, but nothing happened to the rubber on mine.
