check er out, Ive been working on painting my hellbents for the last few weeks, and i dont think i could be more stoked on how they came out.

very sick. props that you can do that man, also i like the newschoolers.com sorta hidden towards the side of the ski!
 
thanks, and yea, theres a buncha NS logos on there, the wolf, the old NS clothing logos, etc. im actually puttin clamps on um right now
 
thanks for all the good vibes! its actually just regular spray paint. I threw down a white base layer of real shitty paint, which makes everything above it crackle like crazy. then i did like 6 layers of different colors, and used a razor blade to scrape it down, exposing lower layers as i went. where it was cracked was below the top surface, so that paint didnt get removed. its a technique that im definitely wanting to try on the next skate deck i build, cause its a crazy look for sure
 
at first when i read "I painted my Hellbents" I thought "one of the sickest graphics ever and you painted them" and then I saw it and these are WAY better than the originals, you should try and sell the design to K2 for the 2011 model.
 
I'm not stupid, I know the title is "painted skis", but I actually read shit instead of just scrolling through and looking at the pretty pictures. And, nice comment on the actual post - I wonder why your post count is as high as it is?

 
i didnt. i did a real light quick sand on um, threw down a nice even layer of white (the powdery kind that is like 99 cents), and then layed down a real thick layer of color, which makes the cracking worse (or in this case, better). all the color layers are pretty thick so i wouldnt scrape right through them.
 
nice, did you tape off the parts you wanted to keep? (i.e. the skull) or were you just very careful. I've been thinking about painting a pair of skis. Also, did you put a top coat of clear and if so what did you use?
 
yea, i did the graphic in chunks, like, the midwest and ohio/CTD were painted last year, so i just used clear masking tape to overlay them. same thing with the skull and all the stencils. and yeah, when i was done, i threw down a can of clear (just regular rustolem gloss clear), and wet sanded out the ripples/texture so they are smooth and glossy, cause bents are like big shovels, and i wanted to make sure they dont collect snow. you should do it, its not that hard, just take your time.
 
Awesome, thanks for the help. Yeah, I might do all the primer work and give them to my girlfriend (she's in art school so she can use it as a project, and I'll get a sick graphic) and then throw the clear on when she's done. +k for the help and for the sick design.
 
nice man, good plan. other thing, take the bindings off too. makes it so much easier. if your worried about strength, toss a little epoxy in the holes when you remount them instead of wood glue. you can still break them loose if you ever need too, but its way stronger.
 
yeah, I was gonna take the bindings off, it would be hard to work around them, I gotta couple buddies that work at shops so I'll have one of them throw 'em back on for me. thanks bro.
