Pain in Skiing

The heaven thread made me think. If there was no risk of injury in skiing would it be as much fun? I personally don't think it would be. No one lieks getting injured but the risk is part of the reason I do the sport, it makes it more fun in a way knowing that my next jump could potentially be my last. I dunno just a thought

i hear ya, cause personally, if skiing didn't have any type of risk involved, it probably wouldn't be as fun....if there was no pain involved in hurling yourself off of cliffs id probably do that instead.

It would be way less intense, pain kinda motivates you to improve. It sucks but you're right, it is nessiciary

yeah really, but skiing w.out pain would be pretty crazy fun i mean think about it you could jump off an insanely high cliff and like feel that euphoria (sp) or the jump w.out the pain of the landing

there would be like no progression in the sport after a while because nobody would be afraid to huck massive cliffs and do crazy tricks on huge jumps and stuff, you know?

"no guts, no glory" basically if there was no pain, there would be no such thing as "guts" which would = no glory whatsoever

Would no pain mean you couldn't break anything? That could slow down progression for sure, you can't skin on a broken hip.

well do you mean that you dont get hurt when you fall over or that you just never fall over cause if you just never fall over youd have nothing to triumph over but if theres no pain when you fall there is still a challenge and thats what makes it soo much fun

if pain didnt exist then there would be no need for humans to have ever developed adrenaline. adreneline is what gives you that oh-so-special feeling when you throwing a huge corked 7 over chad's gap. the reason you have adenaline is so when your arm gets cut off you can mentally think "HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! MY FUCKING ARM JUST GOT CUT THE FUCK OFF!!!" and then the involentary process of stopping or reducing the blood flow to arm arm will occer which will stop/reduce bleeding. this will also trigger dopeameins to flow thoughout your body.

so yeah, if pain never existed it would suck.

However, if pain suddenly stopped occering, and humans still had arenal glands, then we that corked 7 over chad's would still have the same effect of releasing adrenaline. accept now when you fall you just cant feel any pain (which would kinda suck because you couldnt tell if you say... broke an arm or something).

but besides that, if pain suddenly stopped happening, skiing/snowboarding would be ultra sick!

I don't think jumping a 50 foot cliff could ever be boring. Even without pain, skiing would still be fun as hell. Just think of powder days as an example; there's less risk of getting hurt, yet they're the best days to be skiing.

omg there is nothingg like catching your tips and bashing your knee against the last kink of a down flat down and then slamming your head into the ice lying there not being able to breath feeling liek your gona throw up as the wind blows snow up your jacket feeling naucious and dizzy

actualy fuck that i wouldnt miss that for a second

First of all, I agree with ^ about the icon thing. Second, if there was no pain, there would be no fear. The fear in boosting a big jump, at least for those without brass balls is the subconcious thought of getting hurt. Thats what limits everything we do on the ski hill, the little guy in the back of our head saying "hold up a minute son, if you fuck up will you get up?"

Having wrecked myself more times than is reasonable, I think I can comment on this one.

No injurys would fucking rock. IDK how it would work, but being able to ski away from the accident that almost killed me would have been sweet. And the adrenalin would still be there, but it would be the fear of fucking up infront of your friends, not the fear of waking up playing connect the dots in the ER ceiling

if there was no pain, it would be easy, everone would be just as good as eachother becuase no one would be afraid to land the first flip also everyone would be as good as the pros so there would be no real point in it

There would be no challenge. Skiing could be a lip with no landing, just a flat with people throwing massive triple cork 3000s to flat. Skiing wouldnt be difficult or challenging, it wouldnt be skiing. It would be pussying. It would be like a video game:"Shit. That didn't work. Lets try again." I wouldnt ski if there was no challenge.

it didnt say that everyone would automatically be good, just because you dont feel pain doesnt mean you would be able to stomp everything, not everyone would still have the same level of natural talent, and not everyone would work as hard as the others to get better, in a sport such as curling there is no risk of injury or even pain and there are still those that are better then others, and still those who love the sport more than others and get an adreneline ruch out of it, moral of response no pain wouldnt be a bad thing, it would just make our sport more "progressive" and that what all you guys want isnt it?

So playing Warcraft and Counterstrike is a sport now, theres pretty much NO evidence that you can get hurt. Carpel tunnel? Thats OLD AGE SUCKA. Bad eyes? That from not eating enough carrots. I'll stick to my safe computer playing, you guys stick to your dangerous skiing!

^some people do take there CSS seriously, to a sport like level, yes there are pro gamers, i think it would be fun but to an extent risk does add some level of excitement,

no pain no adreniline. the best feeling you could get would be the feeling of skiing perfect powder, but thats not bad. or getting blazed in the woods or having sex in the gondola i guess. whatever. but a lot of what makes skiing fun is convincing yourself that 'you can do it'

Straight up? I'll tell you straight up. Once I went to this city in new york, it was really big and onthe coast. We went to this building there were we got to ride in this big ass elevator, and man that shit went STRAIGHT UP to the top and we were so high you could see everything. So my mom toook a picture of me and we left.

Pain makes you get better. If you fall you get lots of pain. If you land on skis you pimp shiz-nit. So the lesson here is if you don't want pain in skiing don't fall down so fucking much. And just to make a refrence to the word Fuck it is so versitile. My one word forever.
