Alright since i started skiing this season I started getting a pain on the left side of my back like right above my but but below my kidney. Its lasted for around 3 weeks now and I cant ski park because of it. Any quick twisting motion or drop makes it hurt alot. I was going to go to the doctor a week or 2 ago but thought it would get better so i didnt so im going this week. I really dont want to stop skiing a while just because of this stupid pain that came from nowhere. If anyone had something similiar please tell me thanks. +k

could be a pinched nerve, i had a similar problem a few years ago, couple chiropractor sessions and you'll be good.

Or u could be like me and maybe u tore a muscle back there.as I lay in bed I dread standing up bc as soon as I do I will have pain. My injury occurred 10 years ago and I deal with this daily. So hopefully u don't have the same issue. Mine hurts right above my lt hip below my ribs

not sure but I did a dive off a cliff into water and bent my back really weird and that hurt but the pain went away in like a day. Also I got it sometimes when jumping on tramps.

I had that when i compressed a disk in my back last season, though it was more in the center. needless to say, I'd get it checked out to be safe

yeah i've had disk injuries on both sides of my back, go see a physiotherapist or something so you know if you have to stay off it or not. cause it takes like a month to heal

I've had pretty much that exact same pain on and off for about 3 years. Once you've done your back in it is EXTREMELY hard to get it back to how it was before.

I saw a chiropractor a lot this summer. Basically, you should see one. Every instance is different but you need to gently exercise the muscles and also get the spine moving properly.

You can get that sudden pinching pain because your vertebrae aren't flexing properly, and then the muscles overcompensate, and it hurts. (It's more complicated than this, but this is basically the idea)

Things I've found particularly help:

- squats WITHOUT weights, and back braced/arched. (really suck in your lower back and only squat down as far as that position allows you to. should really feel those muscles working, but NOT hurting. if they do, you've gone too far.

- Properly warm up before working out, skiing, everything. I like to run. you can do whatever.

- The more time I have to spend sitting down, the worse my back is.

- Work on flexibility in your legs, so the back doesn't have to do so much work

N.B. Any exercises you do, you must do with PERFECT form otherwise you'll be making it worse. Even stuff that's not for your back. (like just picking stuff up).

But DO see a chiro. I'm just a noob with a bad back!
