Paging Dr. NS

So two days ago I was hitting an concrete ledge tweaked my right knee while slightly under rotating a 4 out(i have video if it helps). I didn't hear a pop and the pain was sharp and created a stretching sensation on the outside back of my knee. I can walk without too much pain, but going down stairs and bending over to pick stuff up off the ground is somewhat painful. The pain always seems to be on the back outside on the knee and also a little bit in my upper calf.

Based on the symptoms I've listed here, I believe to have a class 1 sprain on my PCL. I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance or a second opinion.

If anyone else has had a similar sprain, how long did it take to heal? I have a friend coming up to ski with me for his spring break next Monday and I would like to ride (Jackson Hole).

Also if anyone knows how to preform a lax test and could outline those steps that would be awesome.

Going to see a doctor is pretty much out of the question at the moment. Way to broke and I pretty much know they are going to tell me to stay off it for the rest of the season.

If you're dead set on going to Jackson, definitely invest in a low-profile knee brace (so it can fit under your pants) to keep it stabilized. Take some advil before you head out for the day and don't push anything too hard. It would be WAY worse to aggravate the injury and/or worsen it.

If it doesn't hurt too badly and you keep it somewhat stabilized, you should be ok. Just take it easy.

I would say don't do this. If you're knee starts to be in pain you want to know about it as that's your bodies way of telling you to stop. If you take a pain suppressant then your pain threshold will be higher and you won't know exactly when your body is telling you to stop and you'll have a greater chance of doing more damage to it.

The plus side though is Advil can be an anti-inflammatory which would definitely help.

i recommend electroshock therapy. heard tanner used this to fix up his ankles, but u have to go to Columbia to get it done

the only big one you have to worry about is acl which it doesn't sound like. Surgery and recovery time for the other ligaments is fairly quick respectively. definitely sounds like pcl although you can never really rule out some kind of meniscus tear as well. either way if you can't see a doctor R.I.C.E. is gunna be ur best healer. I had grade 2 mcl last year that took 2 months to get me back to 100%. so you will probably be able to ski on it to some degree but it's not going to heal. If you don't go to the dr. and need a scope ur going to be wasting ur time not healing too

if you are lucky, you may have done what my dad did and pinched a nerve, which is a much easier fix than a tear or a sprain.

I dunno whenever I think I sprain something skiing I usually am able to ski it off or the pain subsides within the next week. Let's hope this is the case caus Jackson is straight fire right now.

well, I'm already in Jackson (i live here). My buddy is coming to visit for his spring break and I was hoping to show him around the sidecountry and fun inbounds stuff. Just trying to get a gauge what my chances are that I'll be able to ski granite or the craigs by next week.

This happened to me once. I didnt do anything, but its gone now. The pain might just go away, If it does, cool. If it doesnt, go see a doctor.

Too broke for a doc but potentially a torn meniscus...that's just shitty. Save your money for an appointment! Just take it easy for a while and hope the pain goes away, which would mean it's probably not anything serious.

I don't think its meniscus just because the pair is only in the back of my knee, not really on top. Also when I tore my meniscus on my left knee there was a lot of popping/grinding whenever I bent my leg past 90 degrees, which I don't currently have in my right knee.

I tore my PCL 2 years ago, grade 3 never had it fixed.

If it is torn, you will be able to more your tibia backwards.

1. Sit in a seat so that your knee is perpendicular

2. Grab your tibia and try to move it back and forth gently

3. If you can see your tib visibly moving then there could be ACL/PCL damage.

4. Go to a physio or a doctor!!
