I just got this link from a friend, after reading it, it seems the RIAA has placed a bug of some sort into Mp3s, and once you are bugged with it, all the files you download are logged, and sent to their database.

Read here:

http://online.securityfocus.com/archive/1/306476

it seems 95% of p2p users are infected already in an attempt to stop piracy. Post your comments here.

oh i should mention also thats its not just mp3s, but all files that are logged, so chances are if you use kazaa or soulseek or any of those programs, your computer is most likely already infected, and the RIAA already knows all the files youve been downloading.

'Introduction:

Several months ago, GOBBLES Security was recruited by the RIAA (riaa.org)

to invent, create, and finally deploy the future of antipiracy tools. We

focused on creating virii/worm hybrids to infect and spread over p2p nets.

Until we became RIAA contracters, the best they could do was to passively

monitor traffic. Our contributions to the RIAA have given them the power

to actively control the majority of hosts using these networks.'

this is off the link i gave, i personally think this sucks, as you can now be easily prosecuted for downloading music, but hey, it is against the law. ok no more replying to myself.

I'd really like to see them prosecute 80% of the population, that'd be really funny.

You guys don't have a clue..

The whole thing was started by a story on TheRegister pointing out a post made on Bugtraq about a guy named GOBBLES who exploided MPG123 (a linux open source MP3 player)

He made a stupid claim that he wrote some stuff for the RIAA which is to 'combat piracy'.. but it turns out, at the very worst, all its going to do is catalog MP3's and report them to the RIAA... very simple to defeat, and there are already patches available to fix the exploit.

Slashdot.org has to stop posting stories like this, it gets all the other sites in a frenzy.

Oh yeah, and what makes the RIAA so sure that it has the technical knowledge to do this shit. The RIAA site has been defaced like 6 times in the last 2 months.
