P18 problem

I just got some p18's in the mail.

They had been set pretty high(16ish) and when i went to turn them down, one of the heel pieces

is acting funny.On one heel, it acts normally, when you loosen the din screw, the din adjustment moves and the plastic body stays stationary, on the other binding, once i hot about 14, the plastic piece starts moving and the din indicator stays the same.

Between 14 and 16, i can push the plastic piece back into place, but beyond that point, it wont budge.

Is there anything that you guys know of to fix this? or should i just count rotations compared to the working one?
 
Sounds rather odd.... and that something else might be going on in/with your binding. I would go get your bindings tested. The $30 you spend is cheaper than new knees/legs.
 
I figured out the problem,

the plastic piece on one heel had been worn through (from using poles).

I trimmed some plastic out of the way that had been bent into the din indicator's track

in the process, i accidentally broke the din indicator off though.

Will shops mount a binding where the din indicator does not work?

the binding still works fine, and they have the machine to check release point anyway.
 
part of a binding manufacturer's indemnification policy is that a binding has to have all functioning pieces, including DIN indicator windows, for a shop to work on it. Bad news- you need one. Good news- they are mega cheap, probably free.
 
This is a completely different problem, but I figured i'm not gonna start a new thread.

Anyhow, the P18s have been amazing for the last 3 years I've had them, HOWEVER, this past week, I somehow buttered out of one of my skis. Next day, I go to June and my ski pops off as I hit a 40 foot down rail. Not cool.

I checked the DIN and one of the toe pieces was at ZERO. Obviously I don't ride w/ my bindings at zero being 6', 175lb.

Has anyone else had this issue of a binding unwinding itself or having the insides of the binding get stripped? I would think it's impossible with a solid aluminum toe piece...

sounds like you need to pay attention to your bindings din a little more closely..

most days before i ski i take a look at bindings make sure din is around right, sidewalls, edges, base, make sure my boot clicks in correctly before i go on the slopes in the lodge...

i bent a controlling arm on my fks 15s and it fucked them up and i didnt notice it for like a week and i eventually landed wrong and didnt eject and broke my fibula..since then i have begun the aforementioned process
 
Sorry, I didn't mean "ZERO," but basically the toe was so loose that you couldn't even see the little DIN line on the binding...

Obviously now, I'm gonna keep a pretty close eye on it just to see if it moves on its own. I just found it super weird that it could go from 13 DIN to off-the-charts low.
 
that happened to me too. It was at the begginning of the year and I was skiing pretty hard all morning, then after lunch I got off the chair, and my ski literally fell of while skating. he din line was nowhere to be seen.
