hypothetically u get the land free, good alititude, no need for any construction(digging, building ground terrain i mean) i'd say a million, to get it all goin. at least 50,000 to clear trails, another 50k for a lodge, 5k for lots, and then 200k for lifts, and patrol and all that, then add other stuff in, also dont forget insurance is nuts for resorts, and insurance is out the wazoo. plus the grooming machines are more expensive than u'd think. and i heard killington's high speed quad costs like 20k dollars a day just to run.. so its more than u'd think

alot of money, youd have to clear trails, and that alone is alot of money on labour and permits. or you could be hardcore and create a mountain that is only glades and just have collector trails at the bottom so you can just ski back to the lift

Silverton isn't as good an example as the story behind Kicking Horse if you're looking to get info on how to build a 'traditional' resort.

If you're really into this, and have a lot of time and energy to waste on what will turn out to be a frustrating web search, there's some info kicking around on a resort development near Squamish. I believe it was/is to be called 'Jumbo Mountain'(no, I'm pretty sure I'm not making that up..). Don't know much about it, other than the usual rumours and speculation, so I'm not gonna say anything other than 'check it out online and see what you find'.

Let us know what you find out.

A Ski hill in Michigan was just auctioned off for $900,000. Sugar Loaf is the name of it, and I believe 5 to 6 mil is the estimate to get it up and running.

just for an example, the high speed quad at blue mtn pa, which is approximately 4500 feet long, cost over 1 million to install. thats just the lift itself, not paying anyone to operate it, repair it, or any other sort of expense

 
You can get one of those rope tow/palma things for like 10 g's I think. To open a resort would cost in the million's.

i know a guy who made a rope tow out of an old engine on a hill by his house and it only costs like $10 bucks a day in gas suckers

yeah i intened to have my own homemade t-bar in my back yard someday... but until then another plcae you can look up was the other option for blackcomb... it was in teh north cascades near mazama where north cascade heliskiing is... I think it was supposed to be called Early Winters but didn't get funding or approved or something.

there is new resort going in in centeral idaho in cascade to compeat with McCall i wish i had to money to go start buying land near it for resale to rich bastards for condo land

You wouldnt open a resort and go straight into grooming and buying 8 seat detachable lifts, you start off small, buy a bit more every year, grow over time, plough the profits back into the business. But still, it would cost a shitload. One million easy, and that would just be the consultancy fees

my boss is considering buying a local fairly small hill that's kinda going under, it has 3-5 lifts, i can't remeber right now, but anyway it's a cool hill, already established with a lodge but it does need a lot of work as well as new lifts, i think it was gonna be around 5 mil
