Ow. Need Dr. NS.

I was at the beach and I got kinda eaten by a wave. I got thrashed and when I came out my shoulder hurt like hell. I only get limited motion out of it or else I'll get a sharp pain. Is this a pulled muscle? Or a muscle tear? How long until it gets better? Gracias.

sounds more like a separation...is there a bump now on the top of your shoulder? (sometimes its obvious, other times not very visible, but you should be able to feel a difference)

nah poking around it feels just like my other shoulder. This same pain happened to me a couple months ago when I yanked out my arm in Tahoe and again when I was working out last month. Why do I get these injuries all the time?

you probably fucked up your rotator cuff.

1) go to doctor.

2) demand an mri

3) get physical therapy

4) ice/heat - whichever the doctor or therapist recomends.

word. when i fucked up my ankle they gave me two shots of morphine within 45 minutes of each other, and the pain was so bad that i didn't feel high at all. i was so pissed.

but yeah get vicodin. percoset is shitty.

probably a bruised muscle. that happened to me a couple months ago. i bruised my AC muscle in my shoulder. i was in a sling for two weeks, it wasnt that bad.

just cause you had two shots doesn't mean you would really feel it. It all depends on the dosage.

personally I can take like 2 500mg vicodins and hardly feel it, it all depends on the person.

I probably wouldn't go for any pain killers unless you are in a ton of pain. Motrin may not work quite as well, but it is an anti-inflammatory which would be really good for you to take and its an over the counter painkiller as well (ibuprofen). Painkillers can lead to alot of problems like hurting yourself worse because you don't feel the pain.

I would probably say its some torn muscles in your rotator cuff. I tore mucles in my rotator cuff 3 or 4 years ago and i would have described it the same way you did.

It doesn't hurt THAT much. It just limits my motion. I'm gonna see how I feel tomorrow since the past times this has happened it went away in a week.

Thanks everyone

Just cause it went away doesn't mean it is better. You still should go and get an MRI or at the very least talk to a doctor. You run the risk of injuring your shoulder for the rest of your life.

yeah seriously.

if you have even the slightest tear in your rotator cuff, it's really important that you take care of it completely. those are life-long injuries if you don't take care of it.

seriously get an MRI.

when you try to move your arm in a large circle, where does it hurt? going up, coming down? are you able to make a full rotation?

It actually got a lot better today. I'd say I maybe about 10% of my motion is affected as to 25% last night. It just in the very top range of motion where it hurts.

i did this in football i tried to hit a kid but tripped, landed on my shoulder and got most of the feild i had the same symptoms i went to the doctors and i had a torn mincus (sp) in a few week the pain will go away if you have a completely torn one your shoulder will pop out in extrem activity

^ good question

after i tore my bicep in my shoulder (trying to butter out of switch in powder) it hurt like a bitch, and for months afterwards i couldnt go to sleep on my front otherwise my shoulder would very painfully pop out of place (not dislocate thought, not that serious)

I'm gonna apologize for sounding like a smartass here, I'm sorry.

AC does not refer to a muscle, it refers to either the AcromioClavicular Ligament or AcromioClavicular joint, because the ligament attaches the Acromion to the clavicle. Muscles in that area are the attachments to the pectoralis major (clavicular division) or Supraspinatus.

Sorry for that, it's just that I was itching to use my classwork in a situation.

As for the Thread creator, You could have torn one of your rotator cuff muscles, had a shoulder separation. Is your clavicle sitting higher on the injured side than on your uninjured shoulder? If so then that could be a shoulder separation which means a sprained (aka torn) AC ligament. I don't know because I cant see it right now but otherwise I could definitely tell what happened to you bro.

Sometimes. I mean both my shoulders pop/click when I use the full range of motion.

Nah poking around everything feels normal. It actually doesn't feel bad at all right now. Just a tiny bit of pain when I'm reaching all the way upwards with my arms.

I got that too when I was at silver star 2 years ago. My shoulder got raped on an over rotated 3, and I couldn't move my arm higher than 45 degrees from hanging straight down. I just no poled and continued skiing, and it went away in 2 weeks.

u need to ice it for now. 10 minutes on 10 minutes off.

limit use with it or else scar tissue will accumulate and will make it much worse.

most likley pulled a muslce or badly sprained it.

it is possible that it dislocated and popped back in, fuckin ur the tendons and ur cuff in the process.

get it checked out asap.

grab some arnica montana, 30x

you will heal much faster if you take 4 pills every 4 hours or so

i bummed my leg in december two days before christmas, the docs thought i'd never be able to walk proper again, i went to physio and was taking arnica, excersising it on my bike, and was back on skis and slaying the park by april. my physio and my family doc decided it was a miracle, i blame it all on the arnica dude.
