the absolute worst thing to do is to fully extend your legs before impact... thats how you blow out knees. in all reality theres no real good way to absorb an overshoot. if you try and stick it with straight legs you will fuck your knees up, if you bend your knees you will probably take a knee to the face or slam your face off the snow, if you turn sideways you're going to slam really hard on your head or arms, if you land on your back well, you're probably going to crack a vertebrae. you're really looking at the lesser evil here. i'd say that landing on your feet back seat would probably be best, you're still going to slam your back/head into the snow but at least the impact will be dispersed over more of your body... basicly, don't overshoot.
