Let's be realistic. They just got pounded in a 2 game series with fucking San Jose when they were playing their best. What did you think was going to happen against the Wings? Sweeeeeeeeeeeeep... makes no difference whether they die now or 2 weeks from now... just means the golf game starts a bit sooner. Edmonton, meawhile, just stepped in front of a big red train.
 
^^its good for the city if they make it, even if they loose in the first round. A large amount of businesses in the city benefit from a succesful hockey team
 
As far as hockey fans go, it didn't really matter. The Canucks like they've been playing the past 2 months would have no chance. Pretty much. But even one round of the playoffs means big money for the team. Oh well, time for golf!

It's pretty funny that it was the Boston Bruins who completely eliminated us from the playoffs months ago. SJ would've lost both those games and never been anywhere close to the playoffs without him.
 
haha yeah, some other bad trades come to mind (like when we got nazzy from the penguins), but yeah, the bos-sj trade was terrible.
 
dallas will win the west. ottawa will win east if hasek comes back healthy. otherwise i think itll be the rangers or philly. dallas wins cup

A trash can could score 50 playing with Thornton the way he's going right now. It's ridiculous. But the predators could conceivably still beat them.

Montreal doesn't even know who they're putting in nets right now. Goalie controversy + playing a team who's outscored you something like 25-9 this year (I don't have the stat on hand but it's something ludicrous like that) is not a recipe for success.
 
whhhhhhat. That is ridiculous. He's coached us to winning records! They chose Bertuzzi over Crawford and thats just ridiculous. Hes a wicked coach. Watch him have a job in a week.

Look out for Pat Quinn then. He might be comin here.
 
I don't think a Quinn/Nonis relationship would be particularly productive... Hitchcock maybe?

When I heard about the possibility of him being fired right after the season ended I was a little surprised. However, he has been here for 7 years and we have won 1 playoff series. We've had talent to do MUCH better than that. Maybe not the Cup, but conference finals talent for sure.

It is also suspected that a decision on Bertuzzi will wait until a new coach is appointed and he has weighed the options. The thinking is, if a new coach can work with Bert, and get him to perform like he did 2 years ago, we would be stupid to give him up. I think its a good plan. We might as well give him a shot. Even if we don't end up keeping him, our faith will hopefully add value to a trade.
 
from an outsider's perspective, i'd say get rid of bertuzzi. but don't pull a boston-esque move, and make sure the trade is worthwhile. maybe for a quality goaltender?

your defence is superb when healthy, and your offense needs no introduction. if the coach is gone and bertuzzi is gone come next season, and you find yourselves backed by a quality goaltender, there's no reason why the canucks shouldnt take the division.
 
resign jovo, the sedins, carter, auld, noronen, kesler, allen, carney and linden if its for league minimum.

trade morrison and cloutier for whatever we can get. just get rid of their salaries.

to replace morrison, try to sign one of the many good centres that will be ufas. like briere, savard, connolly, perreault, straka, legwand, elias or mcdonald(i doubt any of these guys are going anywhere though)

and if theres any money left over, sign a roll player like marc chouinard
 
i guess bertuzzi will have to be traded in order to resign everyone. so send him to the east for a gritty winger that can score. someone like knuble maybe. i doubt philly would be able to take on his salary though. hmmmmmm
 
That's funny because I was specifically thinking philly as well, but not Mike Knuble. And Philly will be able to take on his salary if they restructure after getting embarassed (as a 5 game first round exit would be) this year. I would dish Bert (and possibly Clouts if they want him) off to Philly for Handzus and someone like Nedved, Rathje... who knows who will be on the block. But I really think Handzus is underperforming on that team and could be an absolute steal if someone picked him up. Morrison can go out East as well or at least out of the division, or even to Minnie. I like the idea of picking up a Legwand, but Briere and Connolly are going nowhere. They love Buffalo, they have chemistry, and Buffalo wants to keep them. If the Canucks signed Elias they'd be a cup contender again very quickly. The other pickup (maybe a risky one) I would like to see is to get Andrew Cassels back from Washington. That could work wonders for the PP and depth at center. He's not that quick anymore but he can sure still pass the puck.
