outdoor ramps......

any of u guys kno what material is used on the outdoor ramps u see, for instance the one used in lake placids facilities??? if u kno much about this please leave me some info, maybe where to get it and the cost would be helpful thanks..

 
i think at pro places like lake placid they have some sort of brush mterial, but i have asked around and theres a lot of stuff that works. get a carpet and wet it down with soap, or wet astroturf (like the stuff at mini golf places) basically anything that is slippery will work pretty well

 
what about gettin a bunch of those scotch bright pads?that would work pretty good id think

So wet astroturf works? I'm setting up a backyard rail and I want to be able to hit it in the summer when I can't get snow from arena's anymore.

I went to Lake Placid Ramps, they have plastic with a lot of britles, like on a comb, and they have sprinklers to keep it wet and fast, but you can't carve on it very well.

 
yeah if you want to hit a rail just get any slippery substance and use it because you dont need to carve or anything, im gonna try a slip and slide

yeah I was thinking that could be pretty tight as well. How much of an incline do you think you would need to get some speed on that shit? I just bought two 12 foot pipes and I want to make a shotgun, need to know what kind of ramp I need to build.

i jump on 2 water ramps during the summer:

lake placid's olympic training center

a local ramp where 2 olympians came from

the local ramp was constructed to lake placid's old ramp design, but since LP has redone theirs, it is now different.

if you want the real material, for a single-sized ramp and kicker, it costs between 2 and 5 grand. this is not complete coverage, either.

for consumer use, you'd be better off with just like turf.

don't even bother trying to but the real ski carpet unless ur dad/mom owns a multi-millions dollar conglomorate. we made a water ramp and it turned out to be pretty freaking sweet. at first we used outdoor carpet becuz its really stiff and we just wet it down and put dish soap on it. then we somehow acquired some old ski carpet that worked like a charm altho it was tough to get speed so we got a bunch of industrial rollers for less friction. god luck w/ you ramp cuz ours took the entire spring to put together

dspina, are you serious about carving off it? lol you aren't supposed to carve, turn, wedge, or speedcheck on it. it's impossible.

like i said before, alot yourself a few grand before you look into buying the stuff. THEN don't buy it, and spend it on camp instead.
